5 Of 8 Japanese AAA Game Stocks Just Hit All-Time Highs

Dr. Serkan Toto says: While things do not look great for many studios in the West, things are very different in Japan – and I was shocked how little people in the industry still know and understand about the third biggest gaming market in the world (which is a probably a positive for a Japan game industry consultant like myself).

its funny, i just read something about this yesterday.

Eonjay93d ago

Honestly, it looks about the same if we are measuring a company's success on their all time high stock price. It has nothing to do with the sentiments some in the industry have.

Objectively the two biggest problems are cost cutting and consolidation.

Elden Ring: Nightreign Could Be Bad Omen For Future FromSoftware Titles

Eh we'll have to see. Elden Ring was/ is very good, I'd personally still put Sekiro and Bloodborne at the top but really FS seem to nail it every time.

jznrpg121d ago

My friend said this was like Fortnite mixed with Sekiro/Souls games. Ugh

Streamer Finishes All 7 FromSoftware Soulslike Games in a Row Without Taking Damage or Leveling Up

A streamer completed seven FromSoftware Soulslike games in sequence without taking a hit or leveling up.

thorstein123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

"...known as Nico, who completed Demon’s Souls, the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring in sequence"

Those games aren't Soulslike. WTAF?

Words have meanings.

Duke19123d ago

What a thing to get upset over

thorstein123d ago

Are you sure you meant to respond to me? The only angry person on this thread is Isarai. He's always having a go at someone for no reason at all.

But if you were, "huh?" =/= "angry." It's text, people misread tone all the time. No biggie.

isarai123d ago

Literally every single one of those games is a definitive soulslike

thorstein123d ago

TF are you talking about? Words have meanings.

They're literally not. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne are all Souls games, there is nothing "like" about them. They're literally the OG souls games that other games are "like."

xHeavYx123d ago

@thorstein What am I picturing you on the floor throwing a tantrum? Chill dude.

thorstein123d ago

@Heavy, I don't picture you at all. Lulz.

Isarai is always having a go at someone. I guess I'm his latest target? I guess that makes me special.

If you described him that way it would make sense.

But in the future, just assume that anything you read from me is with a smile on my face relaxing with a drink and watching hockey.

Like my first comment, just me smiling, smh, and saying what the fuck at some journo who doesn't know what "like" means.

adamwparker123d ago

You are correct in the Dark Souls games being "OG" Souls games, but those games with many other similar and copycat games birthed a new genre called "Soulslike" games, which even though the OG Dark Souls games were before the term, are now also in that genre.

If a game creates a genre, it is also in that genre.

thorstein123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

No. Doom is not doomlike, Rogue is not Roguelike, and Demon's Souls is not soulslike.

"Like" is congruent, or similar to not "equal" or "is." Now smile because it's not that serious.

gleepot123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

That's incorrect. The souls games did not create the genre of soulslike, they are souls games. Games that mimic these games are what spawned the genre of "soulslike", as they are like souls games. Dark Souls is not a soulslike.

gleepot123d ago

I'm not sure why you're getting down-voted or disagreed with so hard, as you are correct. A "like" implies that it derives from something, and soulslike is a sub-genre. Souls games cannot occupy a sub-genre that was derived from it, haha.

jsiddlehfx122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

Missing the point. Example: Super Metroid and Castlevania SOTN birthed the genre Metroidvania...
They are still metroidvania games. I believe the confusion is because the genre has the word "like" in the naming. If the genre were dubbed "Souls-Style" instead, I bet this conversation wouldn't even be a thing. I bet everyone would agree that the original Dark Souls Trilogy could be classified as "Souls-Style"

Haha, rewatched that episode yesterday for like the 10th time.

Then there’s me with a copy of Sekiro that I will never finish….

Lexreborn2123d ago

I like leveling up to much to not use it. Stat boosting makes me happy

I love articles like this that talk on and on and on about something and never link to it. Fuckers. This site sucks for promoting garbage.
