Pixels or Death's Patrick Lindsey talks about the recent explosion of indie bundles, and why they may not be the best thing for videogames right now:
"And that’s sort of the problem – these bundles tend to come with a high forgettability rate. Not necessarily because the games themselves are cheap or bad or unremarkable, there’s just so damn many of them all at once."
A new Humble Bundle has gone up, featuring some indie heavy hitters. The new bundle (named Humble Indie Bundle 17) will run for two weeks, starting today.
Octodad, Galak-Z, and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime are some of the featured games.
While folks will immediately remember Desura’s troubles paying developers since two weeks ago, these issues may be traceable as far back as when Linden Lab sold it.
The Indie bundle companies have a collective bad habit. They rarely notify their customers when new Steam keys are added to their bundles. Well, that happens a lot more often than you might expect. Whether it's a DRM free game, a game that was stuck in Greenlight, or a game that existed only on Desura, for one reason or another, Steam keys get added to these bundles weeks, months, or even years later.
They could be bad for gaming, but they're good for me. :D
