Girl Gamers, Traitors to the Cause

VGW's Jen Bosier: I know what you’re thinking: I’m going to go on a rant about the new, charming Soul Calibur V advertisements*. As deplorable as they are — and they are deplorable, nice job, guys! — I’m actually here to admit that, on occasion, the gentler sex does itself no favors. Our loudest voice and representatives seem to be those which demonstrate a less than flattering image.

How ironic that the author of this article has a picture quoting the Dude that says "Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man", and then proceeds to present an argument that claims a difference between "girl gamers" and "gamer girls". Why not just be a person who happens to enjoy playing video games?

The example, "...flirts with everyone and ...snaps up every piece of gear because she oohs and aahs so adorably" is a moocher, and it isn't just "girl gamers" who do it. Besides, if someone's letting her get away with it it's their own fault and they probably aren't the best players to team up with. Don't blame them for falling for her scheme, she's probably more clever than you think for even doing it. Also, if they're playing an MMO and grabbing all the gear they probably take their gaming pretty seriously.

Yes, some girls act like they're into video games for attention, but then again some girls claim to like football for the same reason. Do you really think people can't see through their attempts if they aren't legit?

Maybe cause he was airing his opinion out for other people to digest...man.

And it's the squeakiest wheels that get the most attention.

The author is female, but regardless it's bad enough we have people complaining about how characters are represented that have been around a lot longer than some of these websites, now they're fighting within themselves?

I was kind of hopeful from the title that this article would be a response to all of the bashing of the SCV ad, as it really isn't that big of a deal, but instead I'm told that now along with "girl gamers" there's a new sect called "gamer girls" and another complaint article about the SCV is on its way.

Yes, she's entitled to her opinion, but so are we all. I read the whole article, and I can understand where she's coming from, but I don't think she's going about it the right way. Rather than demonize other girls who aren't "legit" why not try to either encourage them to get legit or just ignore them all together?

oh this should be good lol.

After reading:

I was right lol. Never thought of it the way she put it. And she's right. Gamer girls get harassed enough online without Girl Gamers adding to the noise.

Girls gamers.... Guy gamers.... We're all gamers man, like seriously, fuck this whole placement style of gaming niches.

dinkeldinkse2932d ago

I see no problem with girl gamers. One of the nicest people on N4G, MD, is a girl gamer. She may pretend to use Steam to play games, but she is not harming anyone. I see no problem with wanting a little attention.

"know what you’re thinking: I’m going to go on a rant about the new, charming Soul Calibur V advertisements"

Actually... no I wasn't.
