Pachter bets against PS Vita price drop for 2012

XMNR: Much has been written about the PS Vita launch in Japan that saw strong sales numbers in the first week before a precipitous drop in the second. This has led to speculation that Sony may follow Nintendo's lead with the 3DS and drop the price of their new handheld not long after release. Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter doesn't see that happening in 2012.

Anyone who thinks the vita will have a price cut in 2012 is being silly. The device itself is amazing and actually is cheap for what it offers.

StanLee2482d ago

It's just been released so I don't know why anyone would expect a price cut. It would have to be tanking at retail for such a desperate move to be made.

Thatguy-3102482d ago

Sony stood by the 600 price tag on the PS3 !!! That's all I have to say to make my point.

rezzah2482d ago

They had to because it was already selling at a lost.

Akiba962482d ago

@rezzah same with the vita.

Pikajew2482d ago

It will get a price cut when the second PSV comes out,

lelo2play2481d ago

LOL... you are probably right. If Pachter bets against PS Vita price drop for 2012, then there is going to be a price drop.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2482d ago

I don't get this. Up until E3 2011 everyone was saying that with all the vita offers there's no way Sony would price it under 300 and some were betting at a 400 dollar range. And when it was announced to be $250 people were ready to throw their underwear on stage in excitement. But now it's too expensive?

kreate2482d ago

People dont know what they want.

Market has shifted a little since than. (3ds pricing)

Haters have extra ammo to use now than they did before.

Queasy2482d ago

I think part of the "now it's too expensive" response is because of the proprietary memory cards. It's one thing to say "it's going to be $250." It's another to say, "It's going to be $250 AND you're going to have to buy this over-priced memory card to play games."

Ok, so that worked for the 360 for a while.

ksense2482d ago

i am sorry adding 20$(going by the smallest 4gb memory card) is not going to make it so expensive. if you want the biggest memory card then yea obviously it is going to cost you a lot more money. i am going to be downloading most of my games anyways so i will prolly bite for the 32 gb one and games are rumored to be 10$ or more cheaper than retail and that is why the memory cards are extra expensive so gamestop and every big retailer can get some cut from the memory card pricing.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2482d ago

True. And while I'd hate to acknowledge Gamestop... they do have a $40 vita starter kit that comes with a 4gig stick, screen protector, card case, protective pouch, cleaning cloth, and headphones.

ChiVoLok02482d ago

They thought it would have an internal memory of at least 8gb.

no price cut coming, everyone calm down. the only reason 3ds got a price cut is because it sold like crap, and was marked up so high (on virtually all old tech) that it could afford it. it's just a portable gamecube more than a decade late. if u want the tech, and the capability, and the REAL GAMES, then the current vita asking price is more than worth it.
