2012's Top 5 Game of the Year Candidates

"Obviously we have no way of knowing which games we’ll be praising as 2012’s best come December — it’s only the first week of January, after all. That’s why, just like last year’s GOTY frontrunner article, we’re going to throw out the need for wacky things like “empirical data” and “conclusive hands-on experience”, instead focusing on the pure speculation that keeps the internet turning. Look, I even put them in order and everything!

Now, then. Let’s look at what will surely be the cream of 2012’s crop."

The story is too old to be commented.

the last guardian

twisted metal

the last of us.

Finally. A list without The Last of Us. Whilst i too am looking forward to TLoU, none of us know ANYTHING about it. At all. Just a trailer of what looks like a father and a daughter being chased by mutants in an I Am Legend style world.

I have faith in Naughty Dog. But Uncharted 3 wasnt really GOTY material, which does prove that developers can slip just a bit here and there, which nobody seems to understand

@danthegardner see the thing is, it looks CGI, even though the trailer says its captured straight from the PS3. its odd.

danthegardner2480d ago

Could you please link me to the CGI video for TLoU?

LolololRumz2480d ago

Have you never thought of the possibility that the game could actually look that good?

Kran2480d ago

Games are not JUST about visuals. Why does nobody get that any more?

LolololRumz2480d ago

I think you've missed your own point. You said it looks like CGI yet the trailer says captured from PS3. Therefore I said it might actually look that good.

Nobody said at all it was going to get GOTY on just visuals

You're stating that as if it's a fact when really, it is only your opinion. There are a lot of people who don't believe that Uncharted 3 was GOTY material, but then again, there are probably more who believe it was. It was after all, nominated by various sites and publications and even won the award from places such as Gametrailers.

I'm honestly not sure what to make of your opinion about The Last of Us. I can't really tell if you are impressed or skeptical of the CGI like visuals.
There are many sections throughout the Uncharted series that looked damn near like CGI. The Ice cave in Uncharted 2 and the desert in Uncharted 3 in particular looked beyond extraordinary. I therefore don't see any reason to feel skeptical of the visuals in the The Last of Us trailer, I'm sure the full game will look just as good, if not, a little better.

nyobzoo2480d ago (Edited 2480d ago )

interesting list, I don't think MGS: Revengence is GOTY material though

lastdual2480d ago (Edited 2480d ago )

It's the lesser hyped titles that I'm most excited for in 2012. Games like Prey 2, Dishonored and Darksiders 2 are what I'd really like to see more info on.

Kran2480d ago

Don't forget Metro: Last Light!

lastdual2480d ago

I loved 2033, so I'll definitely be looking forward to Last Light!

Also Risen 2 for some pirate RPG goodness. Hopefully the console version is done well this time.

ThichQuangDuck2480d ago

And the nominees from the future are....

The Last Guardian

Bioshock Infinite

Mass Effect 3

To clarify if you have The Last of Us on your list when it is a new ip and all we have seen is a trailer you may be too hyped.

WonsAuto2480d ago

We also don't even know if The Last of Us is coming out this year.

ThichQuangDuck2480d ago

I have a 360 and not a PS3. Want a PS3 so obviously not here to do system wars, but I am not hyped for Halo 4 because I honestly have not seen anything of true value. We cannot allow ourselves to get hyped off a trailer and an idea.
