Sonic Generations should have been 4. The episodic Sonic 4 idea was just a utter failure. Sonic 4 episode 1 was dissapointing and a bad game.

disagree, i enjoyed it a lot but it was def too short and too long of a wait for the next one.

actually enjoyed sonic generations it was a great sonic game after a long time..how sonic controlled in Sonic 4 was terrible. In Sonic generations felt perfect. However i still disliked the 3D sections.

I guess 3d sonic games will never win over some (alot of) people. I actually like them though.

I didn't like Sonic Generations, Sonic isn't meant for 3d platforming as he slips and slides everywhere when moving/jumping and in the 3d running segments he tends to slam against the sides a lot which looks crap, whilst in the 2d sections (especially when Sonic is running) you just don't have a clue what's going on as the foreground (where Sonic is) ends up blending in with the background.

It isn't a bad Sonic by any means, I love the graphics and I love the homing attack. That said Sonic took ages to speed up and I hate the episodic thing...

Sonic Generations is a much better game, but I'm tempted to buy episode 2.

Yes, Sonic Generations was fantastic! The 2D was spot on, it felt great, controlled well, and generally felt like old school Sonic. Heck, I even enjoyed the 3D Sonic zones, and that's saying something! Especially loved Chemical Plant in 3D, I just wish they had more Sonic 1-3&Knuckles levels in the game... Was hoping for DLC of more Genesis-day levels, but oh well. Here's hoping for Generations 2!

If they do a Sonic Adventure 3 with a proper story line with Generations gameplay (both 3D and 2D style) with no stupid gimmicks and changes i.e. the Werehog then I think Sega can really make Sonic more successful.

I'm on the third boss on Generations and I do believe that this is one of the best Sonic games. Its my favourite next to SA2:B (which I spent many hours playing).

Heck yes man, Sonic Adventure 3 would be amazing. I've been wanting that game to be announced forever. I hated that Sonic Adventure 2: Battle got such low review scores, it was a fantastic game, it was just flawed. Probably the only 3D sonic game I've liked, and it was one of my favorites.

I agree though that Generations is fantastic. I just wish it had lasted longer, not saying it was short, but I wanted to keep going haha.

Plenty of games seem guaranteed to get sequels. But sometimes, companies surprise people and give them the additional installments they didn't know they needed.

Sonic’s Episodic Adventures – The History of Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was something many wanted to see for a very long time. Continuing the story from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, many had lofty expectations for this title. When it finally released, many were split on the project. From it’s episodic nature, different feeling controls and changes that felt strange to fans of Sonic’s classic adventures, Sonic 4 Episode I and II were divisive games to say the least.

I feel like if they could keep improving on the Sonic 4 physics, formula and level design they could have gone from the good Sonic 4 Ep II to something genuinely great for Sonic 4 Ep III.

Strange games. Definitely shouldn't have been "Sonic 4". Seeing as it re-used alot of ideas, level themes enemies and bosses etc, it really should have been called "Sonic Megamix" or something and the levels should have been named after the originals. This would have given SEGA a chance to see what fans reaction was to this style of game, before going in for "proper" Sonic 4. Sonic Mania feels far more "Sonic 4" than the actual Sonic 4 does haha
