Final Fantasy VII. Chrono Trigger. Xenogears. There are many a great RPG, but which is the best of the bunch? Hardcore RPG fans serve up their picks.
Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
Yuji Horii may have accidentally confirmed a Chrono Trigger remake at Comicon in Naples. Eyewitness accounts suggest the beloved JRPG could be returning in HD-2D form.
I'm still skeptical of HD-2D, and still want them to fix remaining foibles in the current Steam version. At any rate I've been seeing online that this rumour has been debunked
I would jump for a remake of Chrono Trigger then hopefully a remake of Chrono Cross. I wish Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy also got a remake or a remaster.
I am surprised it hasn’t been done already. It’s widely considered as one of the best RPGs all time. I’ll take it for sure. I want a Vagrant Story remake as well
Dragon Ball staff reveal how Akira Toriyama created one of Chrono Trigger's most memorable characters as the RPG celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Skyrim... all the other RPG's took an arrow to the knee O_o
FF 6
It's really a matter of opinion, there are so many amazing RPGs out there:
Tactics Ogre
Brave Fencer Musashi
Skies of Arcadia
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10
Breath of Fire 3, 4
Grandia 2
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
are some of my favorites
KOTOR
We are all going to have games we prefer to play. Some people prefer simple Kid centric games, that lead them to the end while the story unfolds.
Some prefer a more complex game, where just go into the world and explore. You never know what is ahead, you can just walk into an ongiong battle or you can choose not to get involved. You can build you own potions weapons and armor, or you can buy from the local vendors. You can have a wife and kid be part of your story or not. You can accept being framed, or you can take on the local cops.
In the end, people will not answer the question: "What's The Best RPG of All Time?". They would just say what they prefer to play. When I look at the comments here, I see that people like some aspects of RPGs more than others. Some actually prefer action game that are call RPG's only because they let you level up and change weapons. Some prefer turn base strategy over direct action. Other prefer a good story that brings out their emotions.
I looks and RPG's like Morrowind and Skyrim as the Ultimate RPG's. Where as turn based RPG's are strategy or story driven RPG'd. D'Souls games are action/stradegy RPG's and games like Mass Effect and KOTOR are Action/Story RPG's.
While I enjoy all the various types of RPG's, I get the sense while play skyrim, that it is the pinicle of the RPG chain. What I mean by that, is that syrim has all of those elements (except for the fact that it is not turn base). Then you have to add the fact that it is completely open world and has 10 time the content of any of them. I think if you ask people who enjoy and have been playing them all over the years, most will go with Skyrim or Morrowind over Dark Souls or FF. This is not say ing that DS and FF or even Zelda are not great RPG's, it is just saying that an RPG purist would go for Syrim if he could just choose one game to play the rest of the year.
