Day One Vita Sales Figures Roll In

A smattering of sales statistics have emerged based on PlayStation Vita’s day one sales figures.

It looks like ‘select stores’ have been selling out of the Wi-Fi model, with estimated sellthrough of that particular version at around 85%. The 3G version is currently at around 56%.

It's from a user on GAF, not sure how reliable it is, but I wont be surprised.

This is the Japanese source that the Gaffer used azalyn.blog22/ameblo.jp

But I don't know how to make the site work

Must suck for those who weren't able to get a memory card lol

GamersRulz3206d ago

Yeah, I was surprised by Memory Card sales as well, It looks like Vita will be sold out by the end of the week, great news.

-Alpha3206d ago (Edited 3206d ago )

Day one sales are usually always positive, unless the product manages to undersell by quite a lot. It's always fun to see the crowds.

I am more interested to see how sales are in the coming weeks.

jaosobno3205d ago (Edited 3205d ago )

I'm thrilled to see that Vita is doing incredibly well. At least there is one great product on handheld gaming market now (yes, you guessed it, I don't consider 3DS great, it has crappy ancient hardware, ugly low res screen and pathetic game lineup).

As it was once said said: Hail to the king baby!

irepbtown3205d ago

I am slightly surprised especially with the price tag. It's great news though, cant wait for UK release (22nd Feb).

Bring on the Vita!

MaxXAttaxX3205d ago (Edited 3205d ago )

aren't the same people who actually care about buying it.

mugoldeneagle033205d ago

Had a great podcast about it, I suggest you check them out.

The one thing they all agreed on was a big shortage of the 32gb memory cards. Hopefully they don't underestimate the NA launch like that

PoSTedUP3205d ago

the only thing that matters is that it was launched in japan, which means it Wont Be Long till it hits US! cant wait.

Wow, the PS Vita looks to be doing well.

Honky Kong3205d ago

this country is full of psp fanboys. even with no monster hunter they will buy anything Sony sells.

hkgamer3205d ago

@honky Kong

I think all gamers will try and buy every console available if their finances will allow them.

kikizoo3204d ago

...by chance for them honkykong, sony's consoles are usualy the best ones, with best library, so..

BluEx6103204d ago

Getting Vita Day one also, not cuhz I'm a "PSP Fanboy".... Cuhz it has games like LBP, Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, MvsC 3, TekkenXStreet Fighter, Call of Duty and many others games available on the go.

If you don't like Vita then state your facts/opinions, don't just troll around.

I will definitely use this a lot more than my tablet. I'm looking forward to seeing the apps/services available.

jneul3204d ago (Edited 3204d ago )

GEEZ HOW COME HONKY KONG HAS SO MANY BUBBLES, PEOPLE BUY PSP'S FOR THEIR QUALITY, AND GAME LINE UP, NOT JUST BECAUSE ITS MADE BY SONY, IDIOT
BTW MY CAPS KEY IS BROKEN SO DONT BOTHER TO REPORT ME

first day, or even first two weeks are irrelevant. Hardware always sell out. Same was with PS3 no matter the 599 price.Let's see how it does in it's 4+ week.

Dante1123206d ago (Edited 3206d ago )

@ Iamback

If I remember correctly, the PS3 only did 88,000 in Japan after two days of being out (Wii- 371936, and the PS2- 630,552) which causes a few funny threads across the web flaunting that the PS3 flopped in Japan. Hardware didn't sell out like most expected and a pricecut followed a little after (I still think it was because of the price at the time for the low sales). But I agree, let's just wait for a few more weeks.

Edit: You made me dig lol

tigertron3205d ago

No, I remember the PS3's launch quite well because thats when I bought my original phat, but there were plenty of PS3s available in the shops.

If the Vita sells out in a week or two then I think it will be a success.

Jobesy3205d ago

"Hardware always sells out"

Really, because the 3DS didn't sell out.

MaxXAttaxX3205d ago (Edited 3205d ago )

You make it sound as if the PS3 struggled with sales, when in fact, it never did.

Selling faster than your main competitor and cutting its 1-year gap down to a small fraction is hardly a struggle.

Also, 3DS never sold out. It was nearly fully stocked everywhere you go. So no, not all hardware sell out "always".

hkgamer3205d ago

@Dante

I can't remember exactly how much the PS3 sold in numbers. but if I remember correctly, Sony shipped out alot more PS3's around launch period than normally which was the reason why it did not sell out at stores because there was plenty of supply. Other console launches spread out their shipments so that it can create hype in the media about how its completely sold out and everyone wants one.
I could be wrong though

If those stats are accurate I wonder how it would be in the United states and the rest of the world. I know Japan is big on handheld gaming but the same could not be said for the rest of the world.
Still Day 1 buy, already preordered on amazon. :)

despair3205d ago

Last handheld I bought was a Gameboy advance, never got a DS or a PSP or any others including 3DS, but I'm actually thinking about getting a Vita at launch. My guess is that there are people like me who will be enticed back into the handheld market by the Vita so I expect the sales to include the handheld consumers as well as the ones like me.

Bottomline is I think it will be record sales for the Vita's first month.

Me-Time3205d ago

Same as despair. I'm really looking forward to it.

Dir_en_grey3204d ago

Sales numbers according to Famitsu.com:
http://www.famitsu.com/news...

PSV First 2 days (12/17-18): 321,407

for reference:
PSP First day (12/12/2004): 166,074
3DS First 2 days (2/26-27/2011): 371,326

Gamer19823204d ago (Edited 3204d ago )

Not bad considering people bought 3DS on the backing of Nintendos previous handhelds and Vita on Sony's just shows how far Sonys come in the portable gaming world. Also you gotta take into consideration there was a lot more 3DS available as like the article says the Vita is practically sold out in wifi model the 3DS was no way near it. Not being able to find a Vita for some customers probably hurt initial sales. Sony didn't expect demand no doubt.

morkendo3204d ago

while u guys buying vita PSP 3000 price be lowered under 100.00 by then. currently it is 169 here in seattle, washington some places 89.99

Buff10443204d ago

There are no sales figures in this article to speak of, and now we know Vita failed to beat 3DS two day sales by at least 48,000 units. That's the real story.

andibandit3204d ago

yeah, especially the people getting
"Everybody’s Golf 6"

Cocozero3205d ago

Doesn't seem like a complete sellout but then again I don't think the 3DS sold out either. Just show that people aren't ready to switch yet.

Ult iMate3205d ago

3DS had 380.000 first week.

zerocrossing3205d ago (Edited 3205d ago )

I don't know if it's that people aren't ready to switch yet.

Remember we're currently deep into a global recession and a lot of people can't afford to go out and buy a brand new console day one... I know I can't :(

saladthieves3205d ago

Same here. Looks like we're in the same boat pal.

tiffac0083205d ago (Edited 3205d ago )

Yeah stupid financial problems is getting in the way of my gaming too. I pretty envious of everyone who has a 3DS and/or a PS Vita right now... T^T

[email protected] you global recession!!!

@ExCest (below)

I would probably say that the current state of the economy is hindering sales of all consoles especially in the handheld area since the 3DS and the PSV are a WANT not a NEED. So the casuals will likely go to either the NEED or the devices that's trending in the market.

Kurt Russell3204d ago

I think there are a lot of people like me - who like to wait until I can try it out before I buy it.

I am still happy with my PSP 1000, but that's not to say I am not ready, maybe not financially ready without a test of one first :D

Wiperout in particular :)

BlmThug3205d ago

We have to wait over 2 months :(

sulaymanqazi3205d ago

2 months and 3 days to be exact.
