Let's hope for a better year this time around. Less tsunamis and hackings please.

Pl4sm44544d ago

hell yeah ... the vita just started eating all handhelds

fr0sty4543d ago

The author of this article took every opportunity to inject something negative about Sony along the way while reporting about Vita's success. Trying so hard to spin the positive that it just comes across as forced.

Vita is selling well! (It better be! Sony is going broke!) It can connect to PSN! (Remember it getting hacked? Yeah. That PSN) It's out in Japan! (Remember Pearl Harbor?). Gamers say the games are fun! (Remember that study about how gaming is bad for you and makes people kill each other?). People are generally happy with it's launch price. (Many parts of it are made in China, probably in sweat shops.). It looks like it'll sell very well. (It's rumored that Sony is funding Al Qaeda with the profits.)

Seriously... went a little overboard there. Just report about the damn Vita, no need to toss in unnecessary tidbits about Sony's financial status or a network hack that happened several months ago.

RBLAZE19884543d ago

Not to mention that he "hopes this will get Sony out of dept" really? At least make sure your slander is spelled correctly. These little guy sites need to go away or make their staff get some education.

BluEx6104543d ago

I do hope it does well in it's products life span. My friends going to be jealous when I'm playing Uncharted GA, MvsC 3, and Call of Duty while in class =)

Love Sony's products, they go for strongest hardware available at a reasonable price. I was thinking about getting a tablet, but that's going to have to wait, Vita has plenty of features the tablets/phones has and more.

farhad2k84543d ago

The VITA is bound to succeed. I mean, even with the high priced memory cards, you're paying around £270 for this BEAST. Compare that to an iPad, compare that to the new HTC phones coming out.. you get ALOT more for your money with the VITA.

The VITA can be used as anything really, make video calls with Skype, make ACTUAL calls with Skype with Skype credit.. I mean, this thing is actually a BEAST.

The fact that you can play PS3 quality games on the go, and have 5 hours+ battery of play time, actually blows my mind. I was expecting this sort of technology in like 2017.. not in 2011!

PSV = Play Station Victory.

lizard812884543d ago

Eh-, It seems the Vita has already been hacked.

I herd it's selling well too :)

SilentNegotiator4544d ago

700K isn't bad for one day in Japan. It sold out.

NukaCola4544d ago

700K shipped, 700K sold to consumers.

I don't think you can do better unless you stock more or your a duplication cloning machine of evil science to multiply the Vita.

mwahahahahaaa! *runs to laboratory in secret room*

CloseSecond4543d ago

Wonder how many of the 700k were exported out of Japan to those who could not wait.

MasterCornholio4544d ago

Vita is a hit in Japan. But I don't think it will sell more than the 3DS because it lacks Mario and Monsterhunter. But that doesn't bother me because the Vita is a much better handheld in my opinion and it will provide me with plenty of great games to play at launch.

XperiaRay

NeloAnjelo4544d ago

Monster Hunter will come to the Vita. Watch this space.

Khordchange4544d ago

really because i havent seen any info on it, just that sony was real upset that they couldnt get mh4 or mh3g

NeloAnjelo4543d ago (Edited 4543d ago )

@compositiontheory

I'm sure no one has confirmed that it's a 3DS exclusive. Nintendo nor Capcom... I could be wrong though. With MH being so successful on the PSP, I can't see it not happening.

What I really want to see is MH on PS3. This was cancelled a few years ago by Capcom when the PS3 wasn't doing so well. Instead it seems Capcom are happier with re-releasing similar games with a different title (not counting HD collections). RE, Dead Rising 2: Off the wall, SF 4, Marvel vs Capcom, etc.

sikbeta4543d ago

Yeah, like Capcom missing an aportunity to make more cash, please, it's a matter of time for MH to be released on the Vita :P

O-T

I'll totally support this amazing portable from day one, this device does real gaming!

Tito084544d ago (Edited 4544d ago )

I think it's a matter of how they'll market the Vita and how they'll support it along with the 3rd party games, Sony overtook Nintendo twice in the console market, even if N64 & Gamecube had Mario games each... There is a chance they can overtake Nintendo in the handheld's department... But since the 3DS is now $169.99, it might not outsell the 3DS because of the average consumer and casual market, but I think it'll just do very fine and become a success, Vita not having Monster Hunter at the moment might be a sign for Nintendo to keep selling more 3DSs, but there's new IPs for the Vita that might be it's killer app, so I wouldnt care about MH at all, never interested!!!!!

DualPixels4544d ago

The Vita is a great device, it has the potential to re-invent gaming, but the problem is the memory. Do get a decent size memory card, you have to spend quite a big sum of money ($120 for 32 GB)

Pyscho_Mantis4544d ago

It hurts me to say this but the one game that even puts the great mario in place is COD. If the Vita were to have an exclusive COD or just a COD with online it wil sell like hotcakes in America and Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy should make it sell like that in Jaoan.

moparful994543d ago

Ok how many people on here think that vitas will help sell ps3's.. Now before you call bullocks hear me out.. THink about it, with the ability to get onto psn from the vita and alot of games already confirmed to have ps3-vita cross platform play as well as cloud saving it only makes sense.. You buy a ps3 game and you can pick up where you left off on the go, for all of those cod-addicted people out there now you can continue to boost your stats and improve your ranking while at school, work, the bus, the office, wherever.... I really do think that the vita will make the Playstation brand come full circle and entice all of those fence riders to finally come to the playstation camp... Agree/Disagree

mcstorm4544d ago

I have to agree with you i think the psv will sell very well and i think i will out sell the psp. In its life but i still think ninendo are too strong in the handheld market. With games like mario kart mario pokemon ect and the device only being £140. i cant wait to have a go on one thouh.

pain777pas4543d ago

Tito08 is right. Sony just has to keep traditional controls, great specs and innovative touches to regain their position. The thing is that price really hurt them this gen. The Vita has that PS1 feel to it in that you can take advantage of things that were not possible before on a handheld with great controls, specs and apparently good dev tools.

kewlkat0074544d ago (Edited 4544d ago )

I pre-ordered mine yesterday....while this may be a powerful device, such as the others that came before it, the battery life is not all that great(given the specs, understandable) and the SD card prices....etc

That Vita has a touchscreen, so Sony should be doing all it can to court devs that can make not PS3 type games but intuitive touch-screen games as well, to broaden it's market past the hardcore ps3 user, that want mobile device.

I heard it might be able to play Angry Bird type games, well that is also a plus since many game on their phones now for casual waste some time games. Forget the specs when it comes to sales because Nintendo never had super duper specs. This thing has to do well financially and challenge the NDS on the software front.

Sony has a chance to challenge a couple of markets, traditional console/mobile phones and other handhelds. I wonder is a stylus could also be used?

Knushwood Butt4543d ago

I have one. Battery life seems pretty good actually.

It takes a long time to charge though.

moparful994543d ago

If they can court the angry bird devs then they might hit a homerun with the casual market lol

NeloAnjelo4544d ago

Did some sites not report that it has already sold out? I think over 700,000 have already been sold.

Sony CEO says although AI "has been used for creation," it's "not a substitute for human creativity"

"AI is not a substitute for human creativity. We position it as a technology that supports creativity. Creativity resides in people. We will continue to contribute to people's creativity through technology," the CEO said.

...not yet but 100% within the next 10 years!

..Then Sony will use it like the drop of a hat. They're no different to the others.

isarai3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They used to be 😞 sure it was always a business, and money's always the priority, but they used to have a very strong stance on supporting artists and creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" was a phrase they touted a few times back in the ps1-ps3 era, a philosophy carried over from their music branch PlayStation was created from. It's not COMPLETELY gone, but it's barely there compared to what it was back then, i just want them to return to that.

Eonjay2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I am highly encouraged by their statement about human creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" is exactly what they are saying. But at the same time, I don't think people understand that Sony is a corporation. If they don't realize growth, they don't get to exist. When you say 'Sony', you are talking about a bunch of investors. To speak about them any other way is a illogical and incorrect. They haven't changed. They have been a group of investors since they became a public business.

isarai3d ago

Ugh, i really wish people would stop gambling people's livelihoods by turning a project/game into their political soapbox. Im all for statements and having your own opinion, but there's more people working on this than just druckman, ham fisting your political beliefs onto just seems inconsiderate for everyone elses job security when it can result in a failure due to people avoiding it for that reason.

I play games for escape, im so tired of nearly every AAA game blatantly dragging real world issues to shove in my face when I'm trying to take a break from it all. They don't even bother to be subtle about it, quite the opposite, it's blasted and force fed to you and it's just getting exhausting

Einhander19723d ago

People are taking a whole interview and cutting it down to clips that make him look bad and take what he actually was saying out of context. For example he also said things like this AI has "ethical issues we need to address"

-Foxtrot3d ago

@Einhander

Why defend him at this point?

It’s not taking things out of context, he said what he said.

Old ND would never talk about soulless AI taking over so many creative things they are well known for. The whole “ethical issues” is just a good PR spin people who push this crap fall back on to make their statements not seem as bad. So many AI lovers do this.

AI has no place is so many creative based things.

Einhander19723d ago

Well yeah, because everyone else is using it so they need to stay competitive. It's the same as paid online, they didn't want to go that route but their competition was making so much money they needed to add paid online just to keep up.

RaiderNation2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

AI will never replace humans in game development in terms of conceptualizing new games. Humans still need to come up with the ideas and what they want to implement. However much of the day to day menial coding could be AI driven to reduce production time and team size. I could also see AI being used for bug testing/optimization that could lead to better quality games at launch. I'm actually very optimistic about how AI can positively impact game development.

Good statement but hopefully this holds up

NotoriousWhiz3d ago

People that aren't software developers just don't understand the benefits of AI. People who's only exposure to A.I is the Terminator movie and other related sci fi films won't understand the benefits it provides.

It's not about replacing human labor. It's about making human labor easier.

Many years ago, I had laser eye surgery done. It was performed by a robot. The doctor took my measurements and calibrated the machine to make sure it would do what needed be done. And then the robot corrected my vision in 10 seconds.

15 years later and I still have 20/20 vision.

Eonjay2d ago

AI in and of itself is not a 'bad'. Money is bad. Money is evil, and corporations will do whatever they can to get more of it. They will find ways to implement AI to replace as may jobs as possible. This isn't even up for debate. It is the charge of the corporation to maximize returns for the investors. They have no choice. I'm a developer and I know that my job will absolutely be replaced. Therefore, I have decided to become an AI dev. AI has a lot of potential to help us solve problem on a scale most can't even imagine. The issue, as ever is that our monetary system only ever allows us to focus on greed and fiscal growth.

But I am a pragmatist. Perhaps an AI model can be built to help protect us from our most dangerous instincts and habits. And perhaps Congress can pass laws to protect us from people who would use AI to manipulate and control us (spoiler: they wont).

RaiderNation2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Progress is inevitable. Nobody driving cars today is complaining that the horse and buggy is no longer around. Yes, some jobs will be lost but guess what? With innovation comes new job opportunities. It's how the cycle of the job market works.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers32d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken31d ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing31d ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H931d ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola31d ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66931d ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle31d ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg32d ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos32d ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

I think if used correctly it could work well

jambola32d ago

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
