PlayStation 4: Facts, Rumor, and Speculation

.....While the PS3 has served us great these past few years, being a self-proclaimed “tech head”, I can’t help but wonder (and speculate) about the PS3′s successor: the PlayStation 4 (or so I hope it’s called that. See: Japanese superstition regarding the number 4. lol) I’d like to spend a little time discussing four simple, but important, topics regarding the PS4:

1) The Hardware 2) The Software 3) Connectivity 4) Price/Release Time........

Just cos Sony bought back the Cell plant from Toshiba, does'nt mean that the plant will be used for Cell chips. It was rumoured a while back that the plant gonna be used for increased production for camera chips.

And I still believe that PS4 will have some upgraded Cell chip.

danhese0074515d ago (Edited 4515d ago )

What i want for PS4

Hardware

Cell 2 CPU (full backwards compatibility with PS1, 2, 3 and PSN games. Better physics, AI, Shaders etc)

Kepler or Maxwell based Nvidia GPU (no gimping this time, they thought developers would be able to maximize the Cell CPU, turns out they mostly used the weak GPU and let the cell waste)

4GB or 6GB total Memory

12X Quad Layer Bluray Reader with DVD & CD support

USB 3.0 Port (at least 2x) or Hybrid Thunderbolt/USB Port

Bluetooth 4.0 (full compatibility with PS3 accessories)

2x HDMI 1.4a or better, 1x Optical Audio, SD Card Slot

Ethernet port and Wifi BGN

Software

1. Cross Game Voice and Video Chat(video overlay over game)
2. Gameplay streaming to Youtube, Ustream, NicoNico or PS Home and Recording etc
3. Revamped non XMB UI but with some elements from XMB
4. Revamped PSN with same day Retail and download release

Pretty much everything currently on Vita and more.

Controllers

Modified DualShock design with a 4-inch curved OLED screen smack dab in the middle, biometric sensors around it, front and back cameras and sixaxis motion sensors.

Vastly improved PS Move controller

Eyetoy 3.0

Dual HD Cameras with Depth Sensors. (3D recording, Chat)

Software_Lover4515d ago

I still dont understand the need for 2 HDMI ports.

danhese0074514d ago

Dual 1080p monitors for higher resolution if supported. Original PS3 design had dual HDMI

Software_Lover4514d ago

You dont need dual HDMI to get a higher resolution, you just need the ability to do so, and the proper monitor. And if you're gonna play dual screens from a console, you might as well build a pc

danhese0074513d ago

1. There are no monitors with more than 1080p resolution for cheap so 2 1080p monitors would do the trick.

2. Who the fuck said dual monitor setup has to be only supported on PC?

3. Will you be creating the several console exclusives available on PC as well?

4. Like i said earlier, the original PS3 design sported dual HDMI (it had dual GPUs) but was cut because of cost. Now a single powerful Nvidia Card can drive 2 HDMI for the price of 1.

5. Dont tell me what i need or dont need. If it has 2 HDMI so be it, if it doesn't i can still live with that.

Adolph Fitler4515d ago

All good, but why not a Blu Ray drive that plays 200gig disks. Also b/c for all PS3 games without compromise, would be nice, with continued support & not just the early, early adoptors like myself.

I don't want no led screen in my controller, to make it some big, uncomfortable piece of crap....truly, a screen on my controller is totally uneccessary, & only takes money from other useful features within the actual console. Just slightly re-design the current ds3 controllers to make the triggers far more prominant & trigger like, boost up the face buttons by 2, to make it 6 face buttons, invent a far better digital pad solution with a small (possibly steel with plastic ball end) joystick sticking out of it, just like a mini-arcade joystick as this would make it the ultimate fight game pad, slightly re-design the shape & ergonomics of the current ds3 to make it fit even more comfortably in the hand (although DS3 is very good now & is by far my fave controller, no controller out there has it nailed).
Make the anologue sticks, actual sticks & the supporting ball joint parts all out of stainless steel to avoid the wearing that all current plastic ones cop. Make analogue rubber nubs concave & rough textued.

Some of the hardest platinums imo.

Orcs Must Die Uchained

Enter The Gungeon

Max Payne 3

Nuclear Throne

Super Meat Boy

bouzebbal2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Velocity 2X
DJ Hero
SF4
KZ2
WipEout HD
...are among the toughest and 5 plats i am most proud of

jerethdagryphon2217d ago

Kz 2 the online was a stupid requirement

Knushwood Butt2216d ago

Congrats on Velocity 2X

I got the silver for 25 perfects...

joab7772217d ago

For me, in my run, it’s Lost Planet 2 and Killzone 2 before it’s patch. But about 3 yrs ago, I stopped chasing pointless trophies that are just wasted hours.

jazzking20012216d ago

i am not a plat hunter but i will try to get them.....if they do not require a ton of work to do.

jerethdagryphon2216d ago

Out of the 90 i have gt5 and sport are probobly high on the list that and sports champions

2pacalypsenow2217d ago

MGS 5 is not a hard platinum, it's just time consuming.

How is Killzone 2 not on this list?

jazzking20012217d ago

I have never played K2, thus not on the list.

kuraki_dan2217d ago

This list is trash.... infamous took me less than 24 hours to plat and resogun only a few days.... so many much harder/actually time consuming games. Warhawk for example...

Sniperwithacause2217d ago

OMG dude! You beat me to it. As soon as I started scrolling thru comments, and didnt see Warhawk yet I was going to post it.

the worst2217d ago

Warhawk is no joke. I have a championship blade. But flying all that time in the air. I just couldn't do it

franwex2217d ago

Still working on the mgs v one. So far I’m about 130 hours in. All I need to do is collect all the damn animals, beat the target tests on mother base, do the secondary objectives on the campaign. Phew.

Gameseeker_Frampt2217d ago

Killzone 2 is super hard now that the servers shut down yesterday.

joab7772217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

That’s is my hardest before Radec was patched. I spent 9 straight hrs fighting him on Elite. And finally got him! Lost Planet 2 is also absurd!

And Dead Space 2 was tough, going through with like 3 saves for the whole game.

And is MGS 4 harder? I haven’t played 5, but going through 4 without alerting or dying is tough.

Knushwood Butt2216d ago

Radec was patched?

I admit I gave up.

My most enjoyable platinum was 2016 R&C. Most plats get tedious towards the end but R&C was fun the entire time.

dariux322217d ago

I am working on it right now. And game is stil fun to play in challenge mode.

jazzking20012216d ago

i also got it as a plat...trophies were mostly easy...thanks to a bug i was able to get the final racing trophy

jerethdagryphon2216d ago

You dont need a bug just need to practice a bit

SonyWarrior2217d ago

Socom confrontation is the true hardest plat they made that dumb hard to ever get the plat i doubt any one in the world besides the devs got the plat

2pacalypsenow2217d ago

Oh yeah that def was the hardest trophy prob out of all the games released on the Vita,Ps3 and Ps4

DaBudSmoka2217d ago

I got the socom platinum...so yea

AKS2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

That's the one that people seem to notice most. Several people have commented about that when they've checked out my trophies. I was more proud of getting the Big Boss Emblem in MGS4 in terms of gaming accomplishments, but alas there were no trophies when I got it.

jazzking20012217d ago

i beat MGS4 but that was before it got trophy support. If it had when i played it, i may have it now

AKS2216d ago (Edited 2216d ago )

The Big Boss Emblem was from a "perfect" run with no kills, health items, or alerts in under 4 hours on the most difficult setting. I feel like I should have a trophy for that.

jerethdagryphon2216d ago

Demons souls was pretty easy only pure bladestone was hard

The 10 Best Selling Gaming Consoles Of All-Time (As Of December 2017)

PS4 just earned a new rank as it continues its journey to 100 million.

PhoenixUp2330d ago

I could’ve sworn the Genesis sold 40 million

kevnb2329d ago

i thought so too, the xbox one is probably already past 31 million as well.

badz1492329d ago

Best selling PS4 game is UC4 at 4 mil+?? WTF? It's not the best selling game on PS4 but it still sold like 10mil copies already by now.

kevnb2329d ago

ya, that uncharted 4 bundle sold like crazy.

Lime1232329d ago

I thought Uncharted 4 had better first week than Halo 5 in UK (where Xbox One is strongest, next to US), and it wasn't bundled then.

?

FyBy2329d ago

Wow ps4 shows its strenght. After 4 years is already in top 10. Surprise for me was og ps. I didnt knew it surpassed wii. And 62m for NES. Wow!

kevnb2329d ago (Edited 2329d ago )

sony is the only console maker that seems to be able to do really well in the entire world consistently. Xbox has troubles outside the west, Nintendo sometimes has problems in Europe, but Sony is killing it everywhere.

FyBy2329d ago

Yeah exactly! It was surprise for me, that every gen of ps is on the list. Nintendo is saved by its software and uniquenes. They have extremely well accepted first party titles.

Aceman182329d ago

PS1 didnt surpass Wii, it's just the Wii fell short of PS1 lol. Assuming we have another 2-3 yrs of the gen Sony will be only gaming company with 3 systems selling over 100 mil units. That is just inssne.

2329d ago
joab7772329d ago

Wow! Sony has 3 of the top 4 and the PS4 looks to be moving up into one of those spots. Crazy after all the issue with the PS3, it outsold the 360. And they turned it around by taking MS's lead. They focused on 1st party titles and making the gamer their top priority, like MS did for the 360s first 3-4 yrs. Then they started thinking too far ahead like their PC division.

PlayStation Vita Issues Have Tarnished the Legacy of an Otherwise Great System

The Vita is a well-designed system, albeit one that Sony left for dead as soon as it hit its first bump in the road. If it weren't for a couple negative quirks, it might have even been one of the best handhelds ever made. Unfortunately, those quirks have turned into awful problems as of late, and have only served to tarnish the legacy of what has otherwise been an excellent cult system.

I like the Vita a lot. I actually blame Sony in putting less faith in it than it should

Prince_TFK2422d ago

I love my Vita. Fantastic system. The screen totally destroy the 3DS. Too bad that Sony drop the support as soon as the sale slow down.

I wonder what would had happened if they had used SD card instead of that expensive card.

PhoenixUp2422d ago

I'll always find it hilarious how even when Sony seemingly abandoned their second handheld, Vita still outsold Wii U which was heavily supported by Nintendo.

Never underestimate the power that third party support can do for a platform.

freshslicepizza2422d ago

Which cleary shows why it's good to have a nice balance between the two. Sony knows this but some of their fans seem to only want to talk about exclusives.

Prince_TFK2422d ago

I thought it is all about exclusive here on n4g? So third party is only important as long as we don't talk about Xbox? Oh the amount of spin.

rainslacker2421d ago

Sony had 3rd party support, and still has it to this day on the Vita. IN fact, it's about all they have. They even had some pretty good 1st party support in the first few years.

But no one would give them credit for that support, and "vita has no games" was the constant mantra being spewed on every vita article until Sony finally dropped all its meaningful support for the system.

Games are what sells a system. Doesn't matter if they're multi-plat or exclusive. Sony had a lot of both, they just failed to get more of the really big exclusives like they got with the PSP. PSP didn't really take off until they started getting things like Metal Gear or GT. When they looked like they were finally going that path, they pretty much gave up on it, and it's kind of sad, because it's a great system.

chris2352422d ago

got the vita although it was dead on arrival. mobile gaming on dedicated machines is deadder than dead. oh wait, the switch is doing stellar, even rivaling the ps4, the xbox and the new xoxbox. ok, let's forget for one second about the absolute market dominator: when was the last time you saw someone playing his or her dedicated machine outside? I can't really remember. what I'm seeing everyday though is that everybody and their little daughter got smartphones when they are on their way to go somewhere.

2422d ago
thatguyhayat2422d ago

Vita was and still amazing. Playing uncharted and gravity rush on it was simply epic. Such a shame Sony gave up on it

InTheLab2422d ago

Was...perhaps. still? Those games came out years ago. The vita is a terrible handheld that Sony pushed out with Insanely overpriced memory cards and a handful of games. It was amazing for maybe a year then reality set in.

Sony only cares about the home console. Vita, PSP, Move, and now the PSVR all rely on 3rd party support after Sony pushes them out the door.
