Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are prepping their next generation home video game consoles–but are gamers ready for them?
Yes we do the next gen I cant wait any longer
we need next gen now, but we need the games to go with it!
I'm ready for next gen. I'm tired of all these sequels that come out every year. I want the new IPs which come with every new gen.
WII U IS NOT A NEXT GEN CONSOLE that is all (: And I cant afford a next gen console right now so its a no for me..
I'd be happy if the next Gen consoles are fully backwards compatible and just added anti alaising, anisotropic filtering and texture sharpening where necessary to existing titles.
I don't think any rational human being NEEDS a PS4, Xbox 720, or a Wii U in their lives...but it would certainly be welcome.
Need? No. Want? yes! I mean cmon you know next gen is right around the corner when handhelds are comparable to console graphics...e.g. PSV vs PS3
Oh yes we do! The 360 and the PS3 are maxed out! Time to upgrade!
YES WE DO. The current issues that Skyrim is having on consoles is proof. Developers can only do so much with resources that they have to work with and I respect Betheda for doing what he did with Skyrim and making it possible on 6 year old tech.
Yes you can wait. It's not about the console. Its about the games. And the games we have at the moment are superb! WHY DOES NOBODY GET THAT?
Maybe because some of use also play on a PC too and realise what good image quality really is and the current PS3/360 are miles behind - they don't even natively support most ppl's current 1080p TV's thus requiring upsampling.
PS3 can't handle Skyrim, not enough RAM, so maybe its time to move on. Hope PS3's RAM issues don't gimp GTA V.
LOL How CAN'T it gimp GTA V? IT WILL BE AN ISSUE. It was an issue with GTA IV and it was unbelievably obvious. I can only hope and pray that GTA V will be built for the high-end systems and ported back to the PS3/Xbox 360...I don't want no gimped game.
No this gen can still continue on..... they should wait til they can make a significant leap..
Haven't seen BF3 on PC then? Okay then...moving on...
I don't consider bf3 pc "next gen".....if it is next gen will be disappointing...... We don't need new systems for a minor graphical hop
Yes. The proof is in the games. We've hit a graphical wall and the console versions of games are looking more and more inferior to the PC. Too inferior. I'm tired of low-res textures and pop-in environments, and I'm in no way a graphics whore, so me complaining about this says something. The WIi, Im sure I don't have to explain that.
Im ready for PS4 in 2013 or 2014 :)
My body is ready, but my wallet aint.
So you been doing thumb-ups and butt-stretches? I guess I better hit the gaming gym, too...Mountain Dew and Cheetos, here I come. Be ready.
Even if it does come out, I'll probably hold off on getting one for a while like I did with the current-gen, most likely due to the price.
the Wii-U will be a great addition to the console group. Any new angle at game development and control style can only benefit the gaming community. Zelda with Uncharted like graphics? Metroid Prime with dual analog control, Mario with all of the awesome effects available through a more powerful system? Mario Galaxy looked amazing on the Wii, imagine mario on Wii-U. Anything that profits the gaming community should be looked at as a welcomed device.
can u imagine donkey kong returns 2 on wiiu with its brilliant art style and charming world??
I know I'm ready for it. But I still think their are plenty of people that are happy with this gen so far. Their are big differences in Console and Pc games nowadays.
No there is a big difference between core gamers and casual gamers. Casual gamers have flooded the consoles thanks to CoD and other hand-holding franchises. Core gamers are ready for next-gen consoles, which is why we now game on PC for a real core-fix. Casual gamers are ready for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which is why they don't mind paying $60 for skin-jobs and map packs that the core community could have made in six months with mod tools.
Nope, 2-3 years left imo for ps3 and 360 but wii must go hd
2 - 3 years left? What are you smoking?
To PC gamers, yes. To people who want better technology then no, this will suffice for now, it's still not that outdated yet. And yes, you can build a PC with dual $400 graphics cards that smashes it, but I'm talking for a $400 total cost system.
But you don't need a high end set-up to beat the consoles, a $400 PC can do that already. I can't see how anyone can say the consoles aren't outdated yet, particularly when soon after they released PC hardware was already way ahead. Now even what is considered low end and costs next to nothing is significantly more powerful than either console. The hardware is around 6 years old, which is ancient no matter which way you put it.
A $400 PC can't that you liar. You'd need at least a 60GB HDD, $30. A motherboard+microprocessor, $150 for anything decent. Cooling fan and power supply, $50. Graphics card: $60 for anything capable of beating consoles. Sound card: $50. 4GB RAM: $30. 1080p+ monitor: $100. Cables: $20. Case: $60. Keyboard/mouse: $30. Win7: $100. That's a bare minimum computer that will barely do 30fps on anything. The hardware might be 6 years old, but it's hardware is dedicated to gaming and doesn't have a whole operating system running in the background and other useless programs and having to share RAM with those said programs too and also most importantly, graphics processing time. Then you'd need a pretty good graphics card to also do as good as the 360 on graphics processing because of how much faster it's RAM is for streaming data to the GPU. You keep telling yourself a $40 PC can beat a console, when it really can't. a $900 PC can kill it, but $400 isn't beating consoles.
Right, I'm not from the US so having to stick with Newegg, although in the UK I could probably find a similar spec for cheaper still. CPU + MB - $120 http://tinyurl.com/bqvsvnq Case - $19 http://tinyurl.com/cv8j8x2 PSU - $25 after rebate http://tinyurl.com/2utzt7h RAM - $40 (8GB) http://tinyurl.com/34p5n4q GPU - $90 http://tinyurl.com/3qtzl5g HDD - $50 Fans - $10 KB+M - $15 Total $369 HDD prices are still high at the moment due to the flooding, so I haven't included one but added $50 onto the total for when the prices normalise. You don't need a sound card, on board is fine. All the cables you'll need will likely be bundled with the mobo, and if not they're $5 max. Use your existing HDTV instead of a monitor. A cheap keyboard and mouse can be had for $15. A CPU heat-sink should be included with the bundle, and case fans can be had for $10. Everyone probably has an old OEM OS disc if they've bought a pre-build PC, XP will be fine for now. Don't think I've missed anything else. It's probably the shabbiest PC I've ever built, and with some extra time I could further refine everything and add better quality parts, but for now it's fine and proves my point. That PC will EASILY out do the consoles, especially with a 6770. Next time at least know what you're talking about before calling someone a liar. Better yet just go here http://n4g.com/news/899236/... It's only $30 over the $400 mark but it's considerably better.
Fail. My $350 comp and $30 monitor with my $15 Xbox 360 controller and $14 headset say hello. And my comp absolutely SMASHES anything on PS3 and Xbox 360 right now...Just Cause 2 on max settings with DX11 features on at 50+ FPS also says hello. EDIT: Console fanboys get me with the $900 crap. They obviously don't keep up with the times and right now PC hardware keeps getting cheaper and cheaper. Next year this time you'll be able to get a PC off ebay for $250 that's head-and-shoulders over an Xbox 360/PS3. Check it out for yourself if you disagree.
Sure, I'm ready. :)
To anyone who says we dont need them, just take a good look on the big maps on B3 and look in the distance to see all those jaggies. Just to have the games running at 1080p standard with plenty of AA would make a hell of a difference and have proper textures on everything too. I have seen B3 running on max settings on a pals pc and believe me when i went back to my console after i noticed it even more.I still have great fun with my consoles and gameplay wise its as good, but they are getting a little outdated graphics wise.
i think nintendo and ps3 will be the real winners in 2012.the wii u will be the most powerful console next year without a doubt it stands to reason so devs will make games for the wii u and ps3 and port inferior games to xbox360.so i predict wii u 2012,ps4 2013/14 and xbox 720 rushed for late 2012 early 2013 with the same rrod problems.
NO!!! LET THEM LEARN HOW TO MAX OUT THESE CONSOLES FIRST!!! Just what we need, a new generation of excuses. "Uh, yeah the game wasn't as good as we hoped, but there's a learning curve with this new hardware..."
Theres only so much you can do with optimization. Sure you can make a game look better in some ways, but it often requires shortcutting other areas in the process. Even if this generation continued for another 5 years we'd still be stuck with things like 512x512 textures, which sounds pretty "max out" to me.
yes, we need a new gen quicker then people realise.. im on ps3, i passed on rage completely, bf3 with its triple buffering causes controller input lag, and skyrim is rendered unplayable at a certain point.... next gen cant come soon enough
I dont really care im happy with my 360 ps3 and 3ds at the mo they all have some amazing games on them at the mo.
No, at least not next year with great games coming out. 2013/2014 seems nice though, we're gonna need them eventually, from a technical perspective. Some games lately are becoming a bit rocky or rough around the edges. Of course with sales rising each year (except Wii which influxes with the holiday season) there's not a huge incentive to go next gen from a company standpoint as much as we(the fans) want some new juicy tech to play games on. Another year or 2 should suffice, but after that I would really like to see some better systems.
hell yes we do!!! i am dying of boredom and same games with the same creaky engine year in year out. less than 30fps, screen tearing, lag, frame rate dips etc. the faster we get out of this gen the better.
Bring it on! This gen (console wise) started 6 years ago with the 360, it's had its day, bring on the next gen Goddamnit already!
yes. next question.
Imagine having 2k or 4k textures on everything with great lighting and shadow quality, no screen tearing or framerate drops, all in native 1080p 60fps with anti-aliasing. I want next gen consoles asap.
Games Uncharted 3, GOW3, GOW III (God of War), Batman: AC proves to me it not a need for them for at least another 2 more years.
Yes, i'm tired of 24 max players.
NO! we still have more games to come like last guardian, Ffversus 13 etc. And ps3 has more power left.
No YOU don't....No one will force you to buy it, & Sony & Nintendo are in the habit of continuing support for last gens machine, when they have released there next gen offerings. So, yes they should release them in 2012, & we know Wii-U is already announced for release sometime in 2012, & I'm of the opinion that PS4 will be released in 2012 as well (definately in Japan, then early 2013 for US, Euro, etc). I am looking forward to new machines, & am still playing & getting surprised by what PS3 & 360 can still throw at me, & am sure that will continue for the next 12 months. So give me a worldwide 2012 PS4 release please Sony, as I will be ready to buy on launch with hopefully a new Motorstorm, Resistance, COD, & maybe 1 or 2 more launch must haves. As for those not ready to upgrade, don't threat, there are many more of you out there, many more that are still playing PS2 every once in a while & waiting for the ultra casual, sweetspot price point, before they buy PS3 or 360. And that means games will still be coming in droves 12-18months after PS4 launches.... I mean, PS3 still has Last Guardian (as many have already pointed out), Starhawk (which looks absolutely mind boggingly good), then hopefully we'll get another Resistance, Motorstorm, probably 2 more COD's, ten more SF4 versions, 12 more MvC3 versions, etc, etc.
Question should be, 'do we need more of these pointless articles asking this question'
I'm happy to wait for next year. XD
YUP ASAP plz sick of sub HD gaming
