EuroGamer: Matt Southern, Evolution Studios group game director, has revealed his fear that the troubled launch and subsequent commercial failure of MotorStorm Apocalypse "might be the end" of the Sony-owned developer.
Sony wouldn't have bought the studio just to close it down. Motorstorm Apocalypse faced a lot of issues with release and what not, but one poor selling game would never kill the studio, especially when the franchise is still quite popular.
Well its not going to help that MS RC has gimped MP features. They need to get online and cross MP into that game, otherwise it looks like a fun departure of the main series. I`d also love to see Evolution aid PD in the rally sections of the GT series. Could be a great collaboration.
Well actually, if Evolution revisited the first Motorstorm and just gave us that crazy shaking in car view then it would sell like crazy. I bought the first two, and there are people who would say that under my current and previous PSN ID's that I was fanatical about Motorstorm... but I stopped paying attention when I found out Apocalypse did not have that shaking in car view as an option. Until they introduce that I will just watch instead of buy. They know full well people want that to be added, loads of people have begged for it on their blog and website, but they are not paying any attention, or they are paying intention but instead ignoring what people want. Just give us that crazy view point Evo!
Oh damn, that would be unfortunate.. They are excellent developers! Thats it! I shall buy ms: apocalypse to support them!... Once it drops to $30. Cause I'm broke still.
It would be unfortunate if it were to be canceled but then again if from the ashes rose a new racing series that could blend online play with both console and portable then so be it. Pacific rift is my favorite and arctic edge isnt to bad on the psp. Surprised they went with a ps2 release instead of the ps3. That could have been the first console/portable cross play game. Apocalypse is good and they could have the racing circuits in different areas besides desrt, mountain, jungle, snow. Maybe even branch out into boats in a motorstorm: tidal wave or planes in motorstorm: turbulance
They need to make something other than Motorstorm games. They aren't bad titles but I think they have te talent to do something better. 4 games in 6 years is a bit much IMO
"We made a game we're really proud of and for some really heartbreaking reasons things didn't go so well. In perspective we've got nothing to complain about." Absolutely, but this game is so good, I hope that with the playstation 3d display it gets a lot of sales.
Sony can't advertise their games for s***. They were incredible in the 5th and 6th six gen, still good in the 7th, but went downhill. I know they had to change a lot due Microsoft releasing the 360 early, but at least they should advertise their games instead waisting it on unnecessary crap like Home.
Very poor time to launch the game.... Delayed on a lot of places because of japan earth quake if I remember.
I'd really love to see these guys make another World Rally game or maybe even a console Pursuit Force, that would kick so much ass on PS3.
The only problem with this game is the singleplayer story mode.....dumbest characters ever, some are truly ridiculous, but once you beat the story mode and have access to all of the tracks with the weather effects it is a truly awesome game. It looks amazing on the PS 3D display as well....bought it on launch day, but have had Apocalypse since it released as well...so have two copies now....the 3D effects and intense racing on this game are truly beautiful... They should have left the story mode the way it always has been....very light......trying too hard to be hip in this case, when the gameplay would have stood fine by itself.
Anything's a bonus for that series after the underwhelming and drab first game in the series. I bet Excitebike on the Wii is a lot more fun and not much different graphically (apart from the shots of the car coming to pieces which do not add to gameplay). Pacific Rift does look the best in the series but I am hesitant to give it a go after the first game (which, remember, did not look as good as the early videos) which, like Heavenly Sword, seemed to epitomise the PS3's early concentration on 'all flash, hardly no pan'. Yet there wasn't even enough flash either!
Are you crazy motorstorm 1 was an out and out classic
tbh i got bored of motorstorm after the 2nd one, i loved the first wen i bought my launch ps3, i think its best if the studio leave motorstorm and begin a new project, i wish the team luck with there next franchise
i want to play this game.i think it looks fun but ill wait till its 20 or 30$'s
hope fully the downloads survey that sony sent out on psn GAME PRCING follows through so i can buy games like MS RC for cheap
It will be sad news if Evolution go under. Motorstorm was never a mind-blowing series, and it always seemed to travel under the radar of the bigger PS3 exclusives. It was just an enjoyable gaming experience that I could drop in at any time with some friends over. Had a heap of fun with Apocalypse.
It's a very niche game, it's not really in a genre that reaches out and grabs at people.
Not everybody is a FPS COD fanboy like you. There are other genres out there that people like. The ONLY thing that went wrong for this game was the release date window.
Wait, so a person that owns hundreds of games like I do, games that range from RPG, Sports and RTS is a FPS fanboy? Your so ignorant, but this is N4G so I guess it's expected. You can like something like COD and still like other types of games. COD isn't even close to being my most played game, not by a long shot. Weird arcade racers are a niche genre, no matter how you try to spin it.
Evolution studios was set to fail after the release of the first Motorstorm didn't come close to matching the 2005 E3 trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Sorry but the only fail here it's you... all Motostorms has been cool as hell, and a blast to play.
Not sure what anyone is talking about. If a studio closed down every time one of their games in series was less then satisfactory a lot of games wouldn't exist anymore. Just imagine if Capcom stopped the DMC series because of DMC2 we wouldn't have the awesome DMC3. Motorstorm and MS:PF were great games. Just because not everyone liked MS:A doesn't mean the next one won't be better. I doubt Sony will close them down over a single game.
The irony to me in this situation so far is me and a bunch of my friends loved playing through Apocalypse. Hopefully it doesn't spell the end for this studio.
It's a shame the earthquake messed with the launch. I've only played apocalypse and i loved it. I hope RC does well.
These guys have made the best 3 arcade racing games this gen. & we have to hear they may sink for there efforts. I love the series, but my only advice would be that in this day & age that these type of games need way more content than these games are currently offering. They need to make a new PS3 version, but they really need to mix stuff up, instead of sticking to one setting.. The 1st was an awesome game & boasted the best console graphics by far at time of release, but the only real downfall of the game was the fact that it was stuck in the one setting, which made the tracks get bland quicker than most other racers that break up it's locales all over the world. Pacific Rift had by far the best setting with the most colour & vibrancy...and now Apocalypse opted for another awesome, but locked in setting, when they really need to set this awesome series in many different looking locales to vary up visuals & gameplay. This, in my opinion would make the game appeal to a wider audience & really was my only gripe with the 1st game especially (as it was the one I played most), different shades of red sand did get old after a while, & a much quicker while than other arcade racers that varied it up, although the track designs in all other areas were so awesome that it holds your attention much longer than expected. I have bought all three PS3 MS games, & pretty much on launch in every case, & I will continue to, until the games start declining, or stagnating in quality like COD has.
Its not a popular series, the previous installments sold well because of PS3 bundles. Make something new and get people excited
