The Bethesda series, Fallout and Elder Scrolls are video games that are in a league of their own. Comparable to some type of hard narcotic, they have the power to end marriages and make people lose their jobs. Strangers to Elder Scrolls might tentatively wonder about the highly addictive series. They will occasionally see addicts post facebook statuses about how far they have travelled up seven thousand steps, and how close they came to defeating a giant, and they will feel the urge to sample these hardcore role-playing adventures. However, it truly takes playing Skyrim, or one of its predecessors, to understand just how immersive and time consuming these games are. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is finally here after, what I feel was a long wait, but does it live up to the hype?
Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.
RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.
