PS4 Concepts

GNVR writes: Sony has revealed that it will be looking to release the PlayStation 4 in the same year as Microsoft gets its Xbox 720 on to shelves.

MultiConsoleGamer4532d ago

Xbox 10 = 2012
WiiU = 2012
PS4 = 2013

remanutd554532d ago (Edited 4532d ago )

hopefully i'll get into E3 2012 sony press conference because i have a strong feeling thats where sony will announce the ps4

Ares84HU4531d ago

I think so too. Sony clearly said that they don't want to launch after the competition and the next gen Wii is around the corner and MS is also talking about the next Xbox a lot. I'd say PS4 will come late 2012 early 2013.

But these "concepts" are a joke. One was a PSP concept from maybe 2-3 years ago. Two was a PS3 concept from maybe 6-7 years ago....and that toaster. Well that's just insulting.

MultiConsoleGamer4532d ago (Edited 4532d ago )

Xbox 10 is the code name for the NextBox.

Check my submission history and you'll see what its called Xbox 10. (Although it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.)

Originally I had heard from multiple sources that Sony actually wanted to beat Xbox 10 to market. However the financial losses on the PS3, along with some recent manufacturing difficulties, lead me to believe PS4 will launch after Xbox 10.

n4gisatroll4532d ago (Edited 4532d ago )

Do you really believe the next xbox will be out next year? They didn't even announce it yet. You don't think they would announce it VGAs, at least I don't. If they announce it next year, it won't come out the same year. My bet is still coming out in 2014, for both xbox and ps4.

SantistaUSA4531d ago

@grzajabarkus What makes you think that if they announce next year it won't be release until 2013? Xbox 360 was announced May 12, 2005 and and released in North America on November 22, 2005.

I have no idea of when those consoles are coming out, but if it is 100% compatible with xbox 360 and/or PS3 then I'm hoping for next year.

The first xbox games weren't 100% compatible with the 360, mainly because xbox was using NVIDIA GPU, and now Microsoft is using ATI, so if they are keeping ATI for NextBox then that shouldn't be too hard to accomplish :D

caperjim4531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

@grzajabarkus
Microsoft is known for releasing products shortly after announcing them. If a new console is announced next year then it will be out by Xmas.

Personally im on the fence whether they will launch in 2012 or not. Microsoft already has a lot on the table for 2012. Windows 8 among other things.

N311V4532d ago

I think it'll be a 2012 announcement for a 2013 release.

EasilyTheBest4532d ago

Im sure Microsoft will bring out Xbox 10 November 2012 just in time for christmas. If its done right like they did with Kinect they could end up selling 10 Million in a month.
Its going to be the marketing and hype that could do it.
I really think it will be priced well too. Microsoft can afford to lose a ton of money on each one sold, Sony and Nintendo defo cant.
I really feel Microsoft is going to go for it big at 2012 E3.
The 360 will sell along side but at a much cheaper price.

KaiokenKid4532d ago

I personaly believe PS4 is going to be well positioned when it comes out, but only if it's priced correctly. Sony has the first party for a killer launch lineup. MS pretty much broke all ties with first party.

Even if PS4 comes out a year behind again, it might not be a big deal if they can price correctly and make it worth it,

EasilyTheBest4532d ago

K Kid.
The trouble is for Sony, like I have touched on above. Sony cant afford to sell at a loss the next time around. The only way they can afford to be priced correctly which I think you mean cheaply is if they dont go really powerful.
I really dont expect Sony to be a year late again but I think it depends on Microsoft.

bozebo4531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

"Microsoft can afford to lose a ton of money on each one sold, Sony and Nintendo defo cant. "

No, all 3 camps can afford to lose money on each one sold with ease. That is often a standard business model. Hell, if they gave it away for free then the game sales (and so profits) would be astronomical, maybe ^_^

But they won't be loosing as much as last gen if they do sell at a loss because the cost of nearly all computing equipment has dropped dramatically in recent years: 3 years ago a decent gaming PC cost about £1000 ($1560 in 2008), now you can build one more than twice as powerful for £600 ($930 today) - to put that into perspective the PS3 was originally produced at a bit over $800 per unit, MS and Sony are going to be seeing their lowest production costs yet.

The Wii-U's rumoured specs are very similar to a low-end PC so it probably costs about $250 per-unit for Nintendo, if even (no board partners taking cuts like with PCs and no catering for plug & play parts etc.). They won't have to sell it at a big loss if any, though the controller probably costs loads to make, relatively speaking.

MS will probably do the same thing with higher performance hardware: altered designs of PC chips (new 28nm AMD graphics) and boards to eliminate plug & play costs etc. and some special optimisations here and there. So I wouldn't expect production costs larger than about $400 per unit so they can sell for a small loss if they must.

Sony are the unpredictable ones. The CPU could be some relative to the Cell but they won't be using it to process graphics this time because nVidia were behind ATI for about... I dunno 5 seconds, when the 360 was put into motion (so it got the unified shader system that nVidia didn't have ready yet making ATI graphics vastly more powerful for a little bit). This time, nVidia have some great graphics hardware at hand - no way to tell if AMD's new 28nm fab is going to blow away current high-end hardware yet though; and will nVidia have something similar up their sleeve? We can't predict that. But one thing is for sure, they probably won't have to sell the console at a big loss either.

Anyway, any manufacturer can sell the console at a loss if they deem it good business practice in the long run. And I wouldn't expect any manufacturer to have huge R&D costs like Sony did this gen because general purpose hardware has gotten so very cheap and we are not at a pivotal point this time (unified shaders last gen).

Here's an important note though. If Sony's or MS's console doesn't have at least 4GB of (long-term) RAM - it will not be ahead at the end of the generation in terms of first party releases, and multiplats will be nerfed on all platforms again. Infact, even 6 to 8GB might be required according to Crytek. And I have seen mount & blade hapilly nom somewhere in the region of 8GB if you raise the character limit, resulting in a full-scale medieval battle :P
(but then it runs at like 20fps because 2x 6950 graphics cards crossfired can't really deal with that many polys as the level of detail isn't aggressive enough to expect 4000 soldiers on-screen... lol).

EasilyTheBest4531d ago

I cant really agree with that comment perhaps I didnt fully explain.
Yes all three Sony Microsoft and Nintendo can afford to lose money but its only Microsoft who can afford to lose alot.
Microsoft could go mad with the ram and put in 64gb, unlikely I know but way way more unlikely for Sony and Nintendo to do.
Microsoft COULD go way more powerful and keep on price terms with Sony and perhaps Nintendo, sony and Nintendo could no way do the same.
Shareholders and current losses will see to that.

the last one is a freakin toaster for goodness sake.

andibandit4531d ago

The SONY Toaster is a day 1 for me.

Bits-N-Kibbles4531d ago

There also all old. I've seen all these fan made designs already. Hits.

n4gisatroll4532d ago

Some of these are old, and the toaster one is obviously a joke.

koh4532d ago

Yeah they definitely dusted off a few of the PS3 concept designs

Liquid_Ocelot4531d ago

Omg that's the one I want and need!! XD

bozebo4531d ago

Yeah lol, far less effort went into that concept and it's by miles the most sensible.

As for the ones in the article... (excluding the toaster ofc)

Not sure if trolling...

Tarantino_Life4532d ago

The thumbnail one which is the most common one is soo badass. It looks soo futuristic. Wish it really looked like that.

Shmotz4532d ago

More toaster consoles please.

IamTylerDurden12217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Some of the hardest platinums imo.

Orcs Must Die Uchained

Enter The Gungeon

Max Payne 3

Nuclear Throne

Super Meat Boy

bouzebbal2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Velocity 2X
DJ Hero
SF4
KZ2
WipEout HD
...are among the toughest and 5 plats i am most proud of

jerethdagryphon2217d ago

Kz 2 the online was a stupid requirement

Knushwood Butt2216d ago

Congrats on Velocity 2X

I got the silver for 25 perfects...

joab7772217d ago

For me, in my run, it’s Lost Planet 2 and Killzone 2 before it’s patch. But about 3 yrs ago, I stopped chasing pointless trophies that are just wasted hours.

jazzking20012216d ago

i am not a plat hunter but i will try to get them.....if they do not require a ton of work to do.

jerethdagryphon2216d ago

Out of the 90 i have gt5 and sport are probobly high on the list that and sports champions

2pacalypsenow2217d ago

MGS 5 is not a hard platinum, it's just time consuming.

How is Killzone 2 not on this list?

jazzking20012217d ago

I have never played K2, thus not on the list.

kuraki_dan2217d ago

This list is trash.... infamous took me less than 24 hours to plat and resogun only a few days.... so many much harder/actually time consuming games. Warhawk for example...

Sniperwithacause2217d ago

OMG dude! You beat me to it. As soon as I started scrolling thru comments, and didnt see Warhawk yet I was going to post it.

the worst2216d ago

Warhawk is no joke. I have a championship blade. But flying all that time in the air. I just couldn't do it

franwex2217d ago

Still working on the mgs v one. So far I’m about 130 hours in. All I need to do is collect all the damn animals, beat the target tests on mother base, do the secondary objectives on the campaign. Phew.

Gameseeker_Frampt2217d ago

Killzone 2 is super hard now that the servers shut down yesterday.

joab7772217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

That’s is my hardest before Radec was patched. I spent 9 straight hrs fighting him on Elite. And finally got him! Lost Planet 2 is also absurd!

And Dead Space 2 was tough, going through with like 3 saves for the whole game.

And is MGS 4 harder? I haven’t played 5, but going through 4 without alerting or dying is tough.

Knushwood Butt2216d ago

Radec was patched?

I admit I gave up.

IamTylerDurden12217d ago

My most enjoyable platinum was 2016 R&C. Most plats get tedious towards the end but R&C was fun the entire time.

dariux322217d ago

I am working on it right now. And game is stil fun to play in challenge mode.

jazzking20012216d ago

i also got it as a plat...trophies were mostly easy...thanks to a bug i was able to get the final racing trophy

jerethdagryphon2216d ago

You dont need a bug just need to practice a bit

SonyWarrior2217d ago

Socom confrontation is the true hardest plat they made that dumb hard to ever get the plat i doubt any one in the world besides the devs got the plat

2pacalypsenow2217d ago

Oh yeah that def was the hardest trophy prob out of all the games released on the Vita,Ps3 and Ps4

DaBudSmoka2217d ago

I got the socom platinum...so yea

AKS2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

That's the one that people seem to notice most. Several people have commented about that when they've checked out my trophies. I was more proud of getting the Big Boss Emblem in MGS4 in terms of gaming accomplishments, but alas there were no trophies when I got it.

jazzking20012216d ago

i beat MGS4 but that was before it got trophy support. If it had when i played it, i may have it now

AKS2216d ago (Edited 2216d ago )

The Big Boss Emblem was from a "perfect" run with no kills, health items, or alerts in under 4 hours on the most difficult setting. I feel like I should have a trophy for that.

jerethdagryphon2216d ago

Demons souls was pretty easy only pure bladestone was hard

The 10 Best Selling Gaming Consoles Of All-Time (As Of December 2017)

PS4 just earned a new rank as it continues its journey to 100 million.

PhoenixUp2329d ago

I could’ve sworn the Genesis sold 40 million

kevnb2329d ago

i thought so too, the xbox one is probably already past 31 million as well.

badz1492329d ago

Best selling PS4 game is UC4 at 4 mil+?? WTF? It's not the best selling game on PS4 but it still sold like 10mil copies already by now.

kevnb2329d ago

ya, that uncharted 4 bundle sold like crazy.

Lime1232329d ago

I thought Uncharted 4 had better first week than Halo 5 in UK (where Xbox One is strongest, next to US), and it wasn't bundled then.

?

FyBy2329d ago

Wow ps4 shows its strenght. After 4 years is already in top 10. Surprise for me was og ps. I didnt knew it surpassed wii. And 62m for NES. Wow!

kevnb2329d ago (Edited 2329d ago )

sony is the only console maker that seems to be able to do really well in the entire world consistently. Xbox has troubles outside the west, Nintendo sometimes has problems in Europe, but Sony is killing it everywhere.

FyBy2329d ago

Yeah exactly! It was surprise for me, that every gen of ps is on the list. Nintendo is saved by its software and uniquenes. They have extremely well accepted first party titles.

Aceman182328d ago

PS1 didnt surpass Wii, it's just the Wii fell short of PS1 lol. Assuming we have another 2-3 yrs of the gen Sony will be only gaming company with 3 systems selling over 100 mil units. That is just inssne.

2329d ago
joab7772329d ago

Wow! Sony has 3 of the top 4 and the PS4 looks to be moving up into one of those spots. Crazy after all the issue with the PS3, it outsold the 360. And they turned it around by taking MS's lead. They focused on 1st party titles and making the gamer their top priority, like MS did for the 360s first 3-4 yrs. Then they started thinking too far ahead like their PC division.

PS4's Latest European Commercial Goes After Kids

This is interesting: a PlayStation 4 commercial targeted squarely at kids. Sony’s spent the past few years marketing the machine mostly at adults and core gamers, but it has hinted in recent interviews that it wants to widen the reach of the console as it pursues that all-important 100 million units milestone, and this is an example of that.
