SG: I’ve been up and down on RAGE. On one hand, the gameplay aspects, mainly driving and shooting, are pretty solid; however, on the other, the game itself is about as common as you can get for a first-person shooter.

Yep. People say gameplay> everything else but for me the best gameplay in the world with absolutely tight intuitive game mechanics and clever AI can still be extremely boring if there is no purpose for it provided by the narrative.

Amazing gameplay can make a good game but story will always make a good game great.

The problem with Rage is that the story AND gameplay was fairly bland, all it had were graphics but the gunplay wasn't anything special and the AI was COD-Esque but CODs story is at least more exciting due to the characters.

As a comparison, Killzone 3s gunplay is way more visceral and enjoyable with quality AI and Halo's AI makes gunplay fun because it takes more skill.

Vanquish and Bayonetta are games with fairly lame stories but are still very fun games due solely to the gameplay.

Having played ID games since Doom - I don't know why I haven't been able to get into Rage... could be because UC3 and Skyrim have taken up so much of my time since I purchased it, but I hope to get more time with it - first few hours or so aren't very interesting IMO

I really like the way skyrim presents things, I dont feel like im sitting around waiting for a cutscene to end at any point.

the game is decent with smooth gameplay, but the story is absolute sh!t.

the problem with rage is that it actually does try to have a story. People talk to you about stuff and its just boring and breaks up gameplay. Rage affirms that many games shouldnt bother with story.
