Starwraith 3D Games is an unusual studio for two key reasons; firstly that it’s an indie studio that has produced an entire series of shockingly detailed and good-looking space combat sims (which in turn have built up a small but very dedicated community), and secondly because it’s almost all the work of one man – Shawn Bower. Today, the latest in the growing space sim franchise was released; Arvoch Alliance, ambitiously billing itself as the definitive 3d space combat sim. Given the massive features list on the official site, it seems hard to argue.

Space simulation games are one of the oldest gaming sub-genres, and for good reason. Exploring the stars has long been a dream of mankind; from a galaxy far, far away to the final frontier, space has captured the imagination of millions. Evochron Mercenary is the latest in the line of open-ended space sims, one that allows the player to choose their own career, ranging from fighter pilot to trader or racer. You can scour the galaxy for resources to sell, establish trade routes and stations, or simply fight your way across entire sectors. Evochron Mercenary does a good job of putting the galaxy at your fingertips, but suffers from a few of the genre’s common flaws.
Arvoch Alliance was launched November 18th, 2011 by StarWraith 3D Games LLC for PC. Arvoch Alliance is the latest in a long string of space sims produced almost entirely through the labor of one individual. I first became acquainted with the Star Wraith series of games through the Dark Basic site thegamecreators.com. The game Star Wraith (the original) was featured on the site many years ago and is still thought highly of by the community. Arvoch Alliance is the 12th game since Star Wraith, and a host of tiny improvements and tinkering have improved the games through the years.
