So what’s the deal with Square-Enix’s ill-fated MMO? Exactly a year ago many of us with computers strong enough to support Final Fantasy XIV were taking our first steps into Eorzea with the hope that the game would be able to replace our existing time-killing MMO. I know I wasn’t the only one who really wanted this game to be the one that I would play for the next five to ten years. Expectations within the Final Fantasy XI community for this title were high. I even pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition from Amazon.com, which is typically something I don’t do for any game let alone an MMO. The day I got my copy was pure agony for me, because I had to install the game on my computer, which took awhile! The Collector’s Edition box was exciting, the packaging was well put together and the overall presentation of Final Fantasy XIV as a product seemed to incredible. This was the game we were all waiting for. Yep Final Fantasy XIV was going to revolutionize MMOs as we knew it, because Square-Enix knows what they’re doing, especially with their most beloved property.
YoshiP, the director and producer of Final Fantasy 14, has apologised for the state of the game at the time of writing.
Do you not see this happening during development? Like, why are we apologizing after the fact instead of stopping it during development?
I was unhappy with DT and have spent far less time in it than any other expansion but it's things like this that makes me respect Yoshi P. It's rare for such a high profile developer to be so candid in his assessment on a live game.
