Five Great Games Other Than Modern Warfare 3 That You Should be Playing

Joel Taveras writes, "Unless you’re living under a rather very large rock, then you should know that today is 11 / 8 /11 also known as the day that Bobby Kotick and company unleash the video game dogs of war, A.K.A. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. And while I’m sure most of you can’t wait to frag your friends, tango your suckas, or find the little soldier in all of us, you should know that there are some recent great games that have been readily available for a few weeks now. This isn’t intended to stir the pot or deter folks from MW3, which I’m sure will be great in it’s own right. No, this is for the shooter fan that should have been enjoying these gems for the past couple of months.

Without further adieu, and in order of release (so keep your fanboy comments to yourselves) here’s a list of the most recent and best reviewed games on the site as well as a short and sweet excerpt from each review."

nice headline, made me laugh because there are thousands of other great games.

JoelT4934d ago

Of course there are, but this is based on the more recent releases.

Abriael4934d ago

I don't think he was being sarcastic? But maybe i'm wrong.

ReservoirDog3164934d ago

Going off recent releases, those 5 and in a more....happy choice, Sonic Generations. Never been a Sonic (I actually always hated those games) but I got it from gamefly and I honestly really really like. Not perfect but it's really fun.

edercampuzano4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

Uncharted. All the way. I returned the game to Red Box last night and I'm STILL processing what I played.

SOD_Delta4934d ago

Great list. I already beat most of those games (except BF3 and Resistance 3). I waiting for a price drop for Resistance 3, and as for BF3 I'm still holding out for a Steam version.

JoelT4934d ago

I wonder how many more copies of BF3 would have sold if EA wasn't being so hard headed about forcing Origin down people's throats.

duplissi4934d ago

oddly enough i have all those games, except gears 3 which i will get once it drops in price some more.

Hicken4934d ago

Excellent list. I would even venture to say all those games are superior to MW3, but that's just personal opinion.

JoelT4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

We'll we can't count out MW3 just yet, But all of the game listed do provide awesome experiences. And what's great about this year's fall lineup in particular is that NO TITLE was scared of MW3 it seems. So instead of backing into January and February like what happened in years prior, it's almost like the industry decided to band together and take the title on, head on.

Maybe, just maybe that's exactly what needed to happen to de-thrown or at the very least bring down to earth the 500lbs gorilla in the room known as MW3. I guess first week sales numbers will be an indication if they managed to pull it off.

Either way, great time to be a gamer.

Hicken4933d ago

I agree. I don't hate on MW3 for the sake of hating on it, like a lot of people may believe. But I'm also glad to see so many developers and publishers face that juggernaut head-on.

Battlefield 3 Cut Missions From Campaign Detailed by Former DICE Dev

Battlefield 3's former Lead Designer has revealed that there were two cut missions from the main campaign

XiNatsuDragnel123d ago

I wish someone can get those EA game leaks to see all the cut content ngl

anast123d ago

Get rid of campaigns, move the game to mobile, and try to compete with warzone. They would save time and money.

Johnh5223123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

Bf4 was fun hope the new bf is just as good.

Sony needs to remake the trilogy on ps5

CrimsonWing69181d ago

I’d rather them do a new game in the world of Resistance.

Cacabunga181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

I honestly liked the first one most..
killzone 2 and 3 outshined Resistance 2 and 3 for me in every aspect.

Eonjay181d ago

I absolutely adored Resistance 3 but they do not NEED to remake this game. They should do something that they enjoy and if it is Resistance then so be it.

Mr_cheese181d ago

Loved resistance 3, played the whole thing on co op with the move controller and gun, was very different!

Resistance 2 online was the best

gamerz181d ago

Me too, but also on a 3D tv! R3 was one of the few games that got plastic rifle panning motion right.

isarai181d ago

Such a criminally underrated series, id love a remaster collection of the trilogy.

preciousdeath181d ago

Yes! ...and make them PSVR2 compatible.

Pedrof181d ago

Not a classic in my opinion ; a pretty mediocre PS3 shooter as far as I'm concerned, not bad, not the worst of the trilogy, but certainly not great. Killzone 2 was miles ahead of it (and of most FPSs even today as far as I'm concerned).

pwnmaster3000181d ago

Naw man.
Resistance 1 will always be GOATed for me.
I remember playing all night on multiplayer. Such a fun game.

P_Bomb181d ago

Ah yeah, R1! I cut my teeth on the one-shot Walmart map, lol! Miss that.

gamerz181d ago

Played that demo soooooo many damn times since it was the only thing to play for a while at launch. That and motorstorm.

refocusedman181d ago

killzone was amazing but resistance was great as well. althpugh theybwrre both fps, I think that served different purposes.

JEECE181d ago

Thanks for turning Insomniac into a Marvel studio.

ApocalypseShadow181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

Although I agree on original games and creativity over licensed IP, especially something like Ghost of Tsushima. But Sony's looking at that series selling less and less overall with the 3rd estimated to not even sell 2 million. Gamers who say they loved it didn't really buy it.

While Spiderman the series has sold over 50 million not counting PC. And Spider-Man 2 is over 11 million so far. If you had their business and had to make their decisions, what would you do in their shoes?

JEECE181d ago

@ApocalypseShadow

Umm, that's exactly my point lol. Insomniac made great, original IP games and people didn't buy them because they were too busy lapping up yearly CODs and Assassin's Creeds, so naturally Sony/Insomniac had to pivot to something else.

Knushwood Butt181d ago

So you are saying 1 was the worst?
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree.

I'll start with what I didn't like about 3:
- OK, Nathan Hale is gone but new player character totally forgettable. Can't even remember their name.
- Awful forced in 3D. Just look at KZ3 for 3D done well.
- Online multiplayer that paled in comparison to 1 and 2. Put hundreds of hours into the first two. Probably less than 10 hours into 3.
- Campaign was OK but I played the other two more, especially 1.

Pedrof180d ago

1 had my favorite gunplay of the trilogy (no need for COD iron sight) so I guess my worst would be 2. At least 3 wrapped up the storyline, supported the move controller and had prettier graphics. But in my book, none of the three really stood out. From that era, I prefered Singularity for example and obviously Killzone 2.

I wish they'd bring back the Resistance 2 multiplayer. God that co-op was so much fun.
