Future-Proofing Bungie's Next-Gen Game Engine

Gamasutra: "A new crop of consoles isn't too far in our future, says Hao Chen, senior graphics engineer for Bungie. This isn't a surprise, of course - hardware companies make hardware products, and software companies make games to support them.

But there was speculation in the past that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 might represent the last round of big powerhouse consoles, as cloud gaming picks up steam, and new hardware gets tougher to move.

In an exclusive interview, to be run in full in Game Developer magazine's December issue (and later on Gamasutra), Chen gave some insight into the next set of consoles."

I can't wait for the next gen consoles. I'm ready to see what an Uncharted 4 and Gears 4 look like. Uncharted 3 already looks nearly photorealistic as it is. I wonder if Halo 4 will look more realistic or stick with the cartoony look.

I hope they do not change the art style in Halo 4. A gritty realistic look is nice for some games but a game like Halo can suffer from this by alienating its huge fan-base.

Plus I am sick of all these brown, gray an green games that are coming out this gen. What makes the Halo universe unique is the art style and plentiful color pallet that it offers.

Edit: Am I the only one who thinks that Halo has some of the most smartest and challenging AI in a game? But no game can touch STALKER when it comes to smart AI.

343 Studios said they're using a modified version of the same engine used in Reach.
