Kotaku's Leigh Alexander writes: "On a regular basis I hear–-even from you guys who write to me and describe yourselves as my "fans" (sidenote: be fans of the people I write about who actually make things instead of people who just talk about them)... I hear myself described as "one of the most prominent female gaming journalists", or as a "feminist writer." When you guys come up to me at events you want to tell me about things you've read or games you designed that I might be interested in because they deal with gender stuff.
Which, I mean, okay, is fine. Obviously I'm concerned about gender inequity and prejudice in the gaming space or I wouldn't have spent words to get us here. I've written a lot about sex stuff, too. But again, you guys: I work all day every day and have done so for years. I write about business models, gaming and art culture, gamified apps (just in the past couple weeks!)-–and so many of you still think my gender is my most important adjective."
She also played Chun-Li and Major from Ghost in the Shell
oh shit, i did know that the Major voice actress passed away but i didnt know she voiced bayonetta too
rest in peace
GB: "With this feature, we take a look back at the incredible Batman: Arkham City with the aim of analyzing it from the perspective of a 2024 release."
Reviews are finally out for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and the game's Metacritic review score means Marvel still hasn't toppled DC.
The Arkham games are largely excellent, a shame they are being followed up by that god awful looking suicide squad game.
You can't expect a game to match 96-94 meta apple for apple. Different era and different gen. No need to diminish either game's achievement. Arkham City and Spiderman 2 are both amazing sequels that improved upon their already incredible first parts.
And right on cue, here comes the downplaying of Insomniacs masterpiece, not gonna work, this game is gonna be beast in success.
Treating people equally and treating people the same is not necessarily the same thing. Equality means treating people in a way that is appropriate for their needs (learn the difference).
For example, a disabled guy needs to get to the top floor of a building, telling him to use the SAME stairs as everyone else is no good, he or she (don't want to be sexist) needs a way of getting to the top floor that would suit the needs of everybody without embarrassing him or treating him worse than other people, so they suggest an elevator, granting him an equal opportunity to reach the SAME floor as everyone else.
As a successful woman (I can say that right?) you have obviously been shown equality and equal opportunity. So clearly the massive majority don't care about your gender.
Seriously, to be honest the whole sexism argument in gaming is getting boring and has no place here. 100% of the people I know believe gaming is about....well gaming, not the gender of the people playing or reporting. The only people that appear to care about sexism are female sexists, that claim they are victims of sexism but never miss an opportunity to rub it in everyone faces that they're a female in the games industry.
The same could be said for racism, my sister is married to a black man who grew up in the same area as me. He works in a hospital and is very happy because he works hard and his efforts pay off, his brother who is unemployed and gets up at noon says he can't get a job because he's black(his brother clearly discredits this), so in my opinion he is playing the race card because he is either hung up on race or is using race as an excuse for being lazy (maybe both).
What I am saying is if you are looking for sexism, racism, ageism (is it wrong that I wont bang a 70 year old? :P) and discrimination, you are sure to find it.
Clearly it's that time of the month and you just feel the need to moan about something, but why not do something constructive and cook your man some dinner :P
and this article only furthers the stereotype. a woman whining online about being known as a woman writer. you just made your problem worse by being so typical.
how many of these articles have we seen now? back to actual game news instead of trying to make a feminist statement.
