Sources point to 2013 launch for 'Xbox Next'

Microsoft and industry partners are working towards a 2013 launch of the next generation Xbox, Develop understands.

Multiple sources across the industry, from processor chip manufacturers to middleware firms, have told Develop they expect the console to be fully unveiled at E3 2013, months before its release. The collection of data points to a 2013 launch for the system across all main regions, though early 2014 remains a possibility.

If it revolves around Kinect as the 360 is now, I'm not purchasing.

I couldn't agree more, its about bloody time to, by the time the next xbox launches the 360 will be 8 years old

As long as I get my AC3 on current consoles, I'll be happy. It's the last franchise I need to finish.

I wonder what types of features it will have, MS will probably want to expand on Kinect since it is doing so good in taking a chunk out of Nintendo's casual market.

No doubt about MS pushing Kinect even further. What I want is for all next gen Xbox games to have mandatory installs like PC. I'm also hoping the next Xbox will let me stream mkv & all mp4 files. I find it absolutely retarded that I can't do this on the 360.

I think both Microsoft and Sony are likely targeting holiday 2013 for their next launches. It wouldn't surprise me if they both launched on the same day.

I'd love to see how Gamestop, and BestBuy handle the releases if they would release same day.
