Gametactics Reviews Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

Celeste Dobropolski reviews Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad for Windows PC. Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is the second World War II First-Person-Shooter (FPS) installment in the series by Tripwire Interactive. The game is only available on PC and can be purchased on the Steam marketplace. At the time of its initial release, I would have told you not to fork over the $40 price tag and instead work on your tenth prestige in Call of Duty. After extensive patching, however, I think the game is worth playing, though it’s still not for everyone. Red Orchestra 2 makes the mistake of venturing into territory that larger companies were smart and/or lazy enough to avoid. That territory? Unrelenting realism in a video game.

I was really hoping for better reviews. I want a WW2 shooter but I am on the fence with this one.

I have RO2 and let me tell you it's about an 85 to 90 outta 100 in my book.
The Game Play and control are a 92
the sound and graphics are 85
the fun factor is 90
The over all presentation is 87

Upon release the game had some issues but two patches later and the game is very enjoyable. Tripwire just like with RO Osfront 41-45 will continue to get feedback from gamers and make patches to further improve RO2. So you can expect continued support.

RO2 is very challenging, the maps are huge, the detail is great, and this is the BEST WWII shooter ever. RO2 is NOT COD and it requires great skill, strategy, and thought on what your doing. I've already generated over 200 hours of MP game play and I'm still finding ways to be a more efficient killer.

details such as being able to shoot through certain cover i.e. wood fences, plaster walls, etc. makes you think about where your standing. The limited site in the tank is as real as actually being in a Panzer tank and the rush, sounds, and effects of the tank battles are awesome.

Tripwire has gone to great lengths to make sure RO2 is as real to WWII as you can get. I can not express the challenge of the game enough. Playing SP the A.I. is pretty solid and scales well on the difficult levels and will challenge you! Still some small issues with A.I. doing dumb stuff but Tripwire is working on it.

On MP is where RO2 comes to life as playing with friends and having to use real world tactics and strategy is when RO2 really shines. No run n gun here cuase you will not last long. setting up a perimeter, taking note of exits/entrances and being aware of your cover make RO2 a very good game.

I really suggest you run out and get it as RO2 provides a more Core gaming feel than COD and BF3 but not the 100% simulation feel of Arma II.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

Not one flight simulator listed like DCS World one of the most hardcore flight sims ever or a racing simulator like iRacing? Really poor list

KesMonkey3359d ago

I clicked, curious where in the list DCS World would appear.

A top simulators list that doesn't include DCS World is a poor list.

A top simulators list that includes no flight simulators whatsoever is an extremely poor list.

A top simulators list that includes no flight sims or racing sims is a joke.

JumpToGamer3359d ago

List your top 10 list then ;)

Psychotica3358d ago

The fact that Bus Simulator made the list at all makes the list absurd, even Farming Simulator is better than that.

JumpToGamer3358d ago (Edited 3358d ago )

It's an opinion. I can have an opinion, you have an opinion. Everyone has an opinion. Some people prefer a Bus Simulator to a Farming Simulator. Who cares? We're all humans with our own tastes and opinions. What does it matter what someone else thinks?

Psychotica3358d ago

Well I am just voicing my opinion about your opinion...

Elwenil3358d ago

It lists ETS2 but not the new American Truck Simulator?

I agree, a very poorly thought out list.

ShadowKnight3358d ago (Edited 3358d ago )

Not a great list.
