In contrast to the modern game's careful, designer-managed experience, Dark Souls treats players with the respect they deserve by trusting them enough to find their own enjoyment.
Does it mean that Dark Souls has porn?
"Golden showers"...... now thats a game for adults. Bit more hardcore than DS though.
Sure, if you like getting freaky with skeletons, heh.
or the Gaping Dragon ;)
I think it just up to parents to know what is appropriate for their children and actually take an active role in knowing what entertainment their children are partaking. Don't want your kid playing Dark Souls ... that's up to you. With great sex comes great responsibility. I think it's funny that in our modern society graphic violence is more accepted than nudity... let alone the act of procreation. Movies come out all the time with over the top killing and violence yet they are rated PG13 yet some dude shows his butt once and the movie gets rated R. I guess talking with you kids about running someone through with a blade, be-heading them, or curbstomping them is less awkward than the birds and the bees?
Should be DARK SOULS: A game for the Hardcore. Seriously there isn't a bliss of core friendly elements to this game from what I've heard.
theres not, but for those of us who love the days of nes and snes/sega, this game is like a throwback to those days. it has the same appeal the NG series had for me, a taste of nostalgia mixed with modernization. actually alot of from softwares more recent titles seem to be... demon souls dark souls 3d dot armored core series most are aimed at the more "hardcore" market imo
I picked this game up wanting a little tougher gaming experience than the current gen is putting out. Boy did I bite off more than I could chew. I realized that as much as I enjoyed beating a tough game when I was younger, I'm just beyond the patience threshold. I tip my hat to those of you who grind it out and stay with it till victory. Sadly I'll be trading in my copy for Batman. This game has great elements to it and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a challenge and has the patience for it.
I keep hearing so many good things about Dark Souls...but then I hear people explain why they hate it, and I can't help but feel like I'd also hate those things... I'm sure I'll try it eventually, but I'm not really in a hurry. It's just that, there's a difference between not holding someone's hand and being one of those parents that throws their kid into a pool and hopes they learn how to swim.
its not nearly as hard as people make it out to be man. also its one of the best games this gen so play it sooner rather than later esp so you can get help if you need it. and fyi i have 50+hrs so far, i only struggled with 5 parts. 1. blighttown was just tough 2. blightown boss 3. anor londo: this retarded section where arrows are beign shot at you 4. anor londo boss battle, raped them on the 6th try though 5. tomb of the giants, another tough area the rest wasnt a walk in the park but it felt very well balanced and i didnt die too often. i still have a ways to go but i dont think its that bad, solid challenge. ninja gaiden 2, mentor and up is much harder, also much cheaper too though
I just got to Blight Town... it's not so bad so far... but I'm not treading out into the muck too much and haven't found the boss yet. Found the way into the Great Hollow though. Got dedz from a shroom-parent... those things are awesome looking but scary. I love this game so far... every day I can't wait to play more of it.
I dont think I have been to tomb of the giants so I dont know about that. But I thought Blighttown was not too bad except the slowdown in the FPS that was in that area. I just get help from people for the bosses that I have trouble with at first. Me and two phantoms killed the capra demon and Queglag(or whatever the spider lady's name is) pretty easily. And since I was human anyways from kindling the sens fortress bonfire, I just got two phantoms for the boss of Sens fortress and it was way easy for us as we destroyed it with magic really quick. I can see why some say its really hard, but those who pretend like its too hard and cheap are probably not going the right ways or are not playing well. As long as you dont go into the wrong places too soon you should be fine in this game. The few bosses that I thought were hard became pretty easy once I got two phantoms to help, and Im pretty sure You can get a third phantom too if you want. The rest of the game Ive done by my self and have made good progress. Im glad that its a game that isnt over really quick.
@nevers..... its not too bad until you get to the bottom lol you will see why.... @solidus..... tomb of the giants is after the catacombs, its tough becuase its hard as hell to see. and yeah almost every boss is cake with help, i tried the quelag alone a few times and it was tough as hell lol but once i got help i destroyed her.......still in the end its difficulty is def overrated
I don't know what being adult has to do with a game targeted at the hardcore. I'm sure there are kids that enjoy this game more than me, and not to mention way better at it than I am. If they were talking about a story with more mature themes, this game has almost no narrative other than the exposition.
The article's saying that the game treats you like an adult and doesn't baby you, i.e., doesn't hold your hand and tell you exactly what you need to do at every step. The game lets you figure things out on your own. It has nothing to do with content or themes.
So tired of all these i'm so hardcore cuz i play Dark Souls articles. Get over it. Yes we all know its hard and it makes you figure it out on your own. Move on.
Adults with masochistic activity
It is an amazingly refreshing change of pace, but could I play every game like this? No. If I had to make a comparison, I wouldn't call the game "adult". Its more like Zelda for cutters.
I've been afraid to get into these games because I just don't want to get beat up over and over, but I kinda dig that there's a game that doesn't hold your hand through everything, too. I like the idea of the lack of prompts...may have to give it a shot.
Rent. $2 at Redbox and a few hours playing greatly influenced my decision to pick it up. Believe me, an hour or two is all you're going to need to figure out if you like the game or not.
the only horrible part about this game is the multiplayer experience. I barely get to play with other people let alone friends. The multiplayer experience for me seems to be the messages and thats it. Finally i said screw it, did the dragon stone glitch, now lvl 96 and having a blast playing alone online. lol. will give it another run through with a thief build, I'm a sorcerer now.
