LOL
Honestly who was expecting them too?
Have people not noticed how much is done on these remakes and how long they take to come out?
to do a hole classic portfolio would be nice but is a bit much lol

JellyJelly4593d ago

Considering they removed backwards compability adding trophies is the least they could have done.

Ju4593d ago

Yes, but those ARE emulated games, not remastered ones. Basically they have SW PS2 emulation working for -selected- titles. Obviously these games have not been touched at all.

sikbeta4593d ago

They removed BC to cut costs, you want trophies? then you want added costs to raise the price of the games you want...

LightofDarkness4593d ago (Edited 4593d ago )

Adding trophies would require developers of each game to back into the game code and refactor it for native PS3 environment support, which would necessitate an almost entirely revamped engine. They might as well do an HD remaster at this point.

This would come at some great expense to the developers and result in FAR fewer PS2 games from ever reaching the store. Just be glad you can play PS2 games again (despite having to buy them again too).

dangert124593d ago (Edited 4593d ago )

Considering? blah blah blah, removing that feature made the ps3 more offardable for me...and I have one Ps2 game If you cared about BC you would of rushed out to get your 60GB when the slim was annouced. and be greatful they are even adding ps2 games if you had bc ps3 you won't see there ps2 games on there trophy list

kikizoo4593d ago

obviously, the xman without ps3 is the one who is not happy :)

trophy ? who cares...

Baka-akaB4593d ago

Dear god , we've been waiting for years for such a feature or better and you wanna care about some trophy score ?

JellyJelly4593d ago

Yes. Be quiet and grateful about it. And you have the audacity to call people who buy COD 'sheeps'.

I guess the online passes for Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3 are also a way to 'cut costs'. All at your expense.

Biggest4593d ago

No, they aren't. Who was talking about them anyway?

DaTruth4593d ago

If a game you own on disk hits the store, you should be allowed to purchase only the emulation for some cheap price or whatever!

They shouldn't make you repurchase the whole game, when it's sitting right there on your shelf!

evrfighter4593d ago Show
SilentNegotiator4593d ago (Edited 4593d ago )

I didn't need trophies back then, and I don't need them now.

Just don't make them too expensive, and let developers continue to have the choice to make remastered ones.

L6RD7BLU34592d ago

true, but I think Sony/developers don't want to wast time though I believe only AAA PS2 titles will be remastered while the B level PS2 games will hit the PSN market I'm guessing.

FACTUAL evidence4593d ago

YES! That's the whole point of the game being a "classic". I like how the ps1/ps2 games don't have trophies. It shows that the game is a direct port from my nostalgic childhood. :)

Bathyj4593d ago

Yeah, its another one of those non issues that were all supposed to be upset about.

BabyTownFrolics4593d ago

i know right, come on fizellas its sony doing it so it ok

one bubble out

ginsunuva4593d ago

Ya, it's not like they can remaster them with one button press.

Peaceful_Jelly4593d ago

In an emulator it only takes a couple of clicks to add some AA and raise the resolution and frame-rate you know.

jeeves864593d ago

@ JellyJelly - I love how you completely ignore the fact that the developers would have to go back into the game and re-program it for trophy support.

However, if you own a legit disc, you should get a discount from the store if you want to buy it again. Like putting the disc in the drive at the time of purchase and getting a coupon code for it. Dunno how that would work though - not sure if all PS2/PSX games have unique codes...

Gray-Fox-Type04593d ago

sony removed backward compatibility to scam with re-released ps2 games it was there plan all along, nice for sony fanboys going to get scammed while if it had the backward compatibility they could of brought any ps2 games for peanuts.

it only does everything but not backward compatibility which xbox 360 even has.

Peaceful_Jelly4593d ago (Edited 4593d ago )

I completely agree with this.

Now they are giving us emulation for 10 dollars each... If Odin Sphere is emulated to play on PS3 then why can't I just play it from the copy that I already own? Is not like they are adding stuff to it, it's just emulation! Can't they just sell us the profile for like 2-3 bucks or something? Of course not, that is not business! =/

Persistantthug4593d ago

make this run.

You always make these assumptions, Peaceful_Jelly?

Morpheuzpr4593d ago

First of all let me remind people like you that backwards compatibility was something sony brought to us when they lunched the ps2. No other company had done it (included on the console) before them. Sure nintendo and sega had their adapters but that's what they were, meaning you had to pay extra for them IF you wanted to have BC.

The 360 has BC (which wasn't there in the begining) for some games and let me repeat SOME games and in most cases is bad. Now the PS3 had BC but some people wanted the system at a cheaper price point, so they measure the pros and cons and decide against it. If a costumer wanted BC they had the option.

Lastly let me remind you that this is something optional. Nobody is forcing you to buy this games. You can just buy a PS2 if yours doesn't work and play them the same, or if you want the convenience of having them on your PS3 HDD and accessible right on the XMB them you have that OPTION.

dredgewalker4592d ago

First of all BC was remove because PEOPLE KEPT COMPLAINING THAT THE PS3 WAS EXPENSIVE back then. PS2 Slims are so damn cheap I wonder why people are complaining that they're being denied the right to play PS2 games.....it's not like the PS2 have been phased out. I didn't buy a PS3 so I can play old games, I have enough new games coming out each month that keeps me busy from playing the old classics. I still have my PS2 alive and kicking and I barely touch it. BC is a nice feature to have but it's not something that people should complain about if they have enough COMMON SENSE.

fucadastates4593d ago

so... if i make a neogaf user.. and post rubish.. its news?
wait for it to come from sony :)

Peaceful_Jelly4593d ago (Edited 4593d ago )

Neogaf is a 1337 forum, you can't just make an account there, you first need to send an application and stuff. And there are no warnings in that forum, you do something wrong and get reported by a couple of users you're banned!

Noctis Aftermath4592d ago

They have forum guidelines, if you don't follow the guidelines then of course you will get banned.

Don't make it out like they are elitists who ban people just cause they feel like it.

TheFallenAngel4593d ago

As long as they don't charge them at $50.

Lazyeye794593d ago

Does this mean that the PS3 Slims will be able to play PS2 disc, or will I have to re-buy the ones I want?

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia3d ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

TheColbertinator3d ago

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.

Used to own all these quirky JRPG on ps3 good times. Wish I would have kept them all

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies5d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken4d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing695d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker5d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing695d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt5d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken4d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
