PrayStation: The 6 Most Misguided Christian Video Games

It's always tricky to combine learning with fun, but especially difficult when it comes to learning about the Bible. While Jack Thompson rants against video games for being "immoral" and "unacceptable" and "killing his family," a few companies are trying to put the hand of God back on the controller.

Not surprisingly, devout fundamentalists often make incredibly bad game designers. A little less expected is their muddling of the message of the Bible. Seth Brown of takes a look through six of the most preposterous religious video games, evaluating them on sheer ridiculousness, as well as Biblical coherence to answer the ultimate question: What would Jesus play?

as a Christian, it continues to confound me that some Christians feel the need to jump into a professional field, declare themselves Christians, and then do things badly. Ugh. They're just trying to capitalize on a demographic, and cheaply.

snoop_dizzle4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

and the kicker is that if someone puts one of these things down, they say its becasue its "Christian", as an excuse. While that does happen, that excuse is driven way to far. I am a Christan as well, but that does tick me off about other Christians as well.

Wii60_FTW4080d ago

lol christians are just dumb

cmrbe4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Funny you said christians are dumb because many of the greatest minds in mankind history are devout chirstians like Issac Newton. Also the two people above you which are christian have more bubbles than you

HeavyweightInTheGame4080d ago

There are so many rude people in this world. Especially on Xbox Live. Maybe games like these will teach people to have respect for others. I used to play a few of these "Bible" games at my friends house when we were mad young. Kind of got boring quick though. Don't mean to disrespect God on that one. Violence is what people want these days. Truth.

ShiftyLookingCow4080d ago

"Don't mean to disrespect God on that one." even though I am not a Christian, every friend I knew from Church would make fun of these game for being so cheesy.

HeavyweightInTheGame4080d ago

See I am Christian. Even though I don't follow my religion like I should. I like violent games, and yes these games are quite cheesy, but they exist as an effort to keep people learning about the things people did when God was the number one priority. There is nothing wrong about letting kids play these games. Why should someone lose faith of religion at such a young age due to the amount of violence out there? If parents at least let their kids play these games, people may be more decent as they grow older and have more respect for others.

ShiftyLookingCow4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

good article though I liked Angry VG Nerd's 26 min video a lot more(it was hilarious: the games, the glitches and top it off with AVGN's crude humor).

HeavyweightInTheGame4080d ago

Lol at those images.

Bubbles coming your way.

ShiftyLookingCow4080d ago

I put those images from a christian website to see if anybody else found it funny. Bubbles back at you.

Cat4080d ago

lol, that stuff is so true -- and exactly what these games show! trying to make money with trite garbage.

dfcm20034080d ago

The Sad part about this, is that their have been men, and women in the past to abuse the Christian world, and even sadder is that the Christians who buy into their ways, should know better, the bible teaches of false prophets in the last days. So really its a shame on the Christian people. And Even tho I think your pics are not funny, I can understand why you did this. But the great thing about this is that even tho those people have did what they did, Jesus is still alive, and He Hessed is abundant....

Wii60_FTW4079d ago

lol like i said, christians are dumb.

why must people always try to force facets of their life into one another.

Religious indoctrination should be banned, just like smoking advertisements aimed at children.

dfcm20034080d ago

XI, I understand where you are coming from, but your idea can not work. Here is why... If you don't believe in God, Then that is your life style, If I do, then that is mine. So If you keep it out, then you are forcing your idea on me, and vice versa.... Everybody has a belief, wither you believe in God or not, everyone believes something... If a non believer tells someone Their is no God, he is spreading his belief, its the same as a believer who try tell people about God. The tough part is that the common thought is that if someone tells you that God is not real, then its ok, because they don't believe in God, but that non believe is a religion as well...

Xi4080d ago (Edited 4080d ago )

for starters, smoking could be considered a life style, that doesn't mean non-smoking impedes a smokers life style, but only requires a specific age to participate.

what you fail to see is the harm caused by religious indoctrination. I force nothing onto you. You can be religious, but those ideals should be come about by the child's own means. You can believe in god thats fine, I would assume you know the ramifications of taking up an ideology, but children don't instead they're systematically taught to belong and think in a specific way, which can be very harmful. Instead religion should come about when a child is old enough to understand. Using comic books, video games, and cartoons to indoctrinate children is no different than smoking companies using cartoons to appeal to children.

At last, the lack of belief in religion is not a religion. One does not believe in that there is no god, as that would require god to exist, instead one doesn't have that belief to begin with. It's not that someone doesn't believe in unicorns it's that they lack that belief all together.

As a student of the bible like you claim, I'd expect you to learn that difference very quickly. The lack of a belief != the belief that it doesn't exist.

By your logic, you would belong to SSSOOOOO many ideologies, because you don't believe in Zeus, Rah, Dionysus, etc.

xionpunk4080d ago

While I agree that religion is something that you can only truly understand at a certain time in life, it wouldn't be right to ban the spread of the idea so children aren't influenced. First of all, look at everything else children are exposed to that might influence their decisions on things. Violence, sex, relationships, ideas, and various views on social norms are pushed on all of us every day. Things that you believe may offend me or, from my viewpoint, harm my kid by being a negative influence. What else would we ban so that we could ensure that a child could not draw any conclusions about life unless it came from no outside influence. Its impossible, and irrational. People are shaped by experiences and ideas they encounter, even during childhood. Its just a part of life. so... any ways, back to video games (lol).

dfcm20034080d ago

I must say, Yea these Games have some problems, in both gaming, and story. But At least their is an attempt for something good. It seems its a natural path for games to become more and more violent and graphic... And by the way, "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. " Man get it right. lol

TruthbeTold4080d ago

Don't sheep have hooves or "Cloven" feet? That would make them "unclean" according to the old testament I think. :D

dfcm20034080d ago

God reveals which animals-including fish and birds-are suitable and unsuitable for human consumption in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. Although the lists aren't exhaustive, He reveals guidelines for recognizing animals that are acceptable for food.

God states that cud-chewing animals with split hooves can be eaten (Leviticus 11:3; Deuteronomy 14:6). These specifically include the cattle, sheep, goat, deer and gazelle families
