STP: The timing couldn't be any better. This week, Gears of War 3 hits the Xbox 360, and Madfinger's Shadowgun will be right behind it next week on the App Store. This can't be a coincidence, since Shadowgun aims to be the flashiest cover-based third-person shooter on the App Store, and it borrows heavily from Gears of War to seal that reputation.

The most successful first-person shooter franchise of all time is the Call of Duty series, but, aside from a few low-effort titles, it doesn’t have nearly as big of a presence on the mobile front. That’s where the Modern Combat series comes in, often considered the best first-person shooters available for mobile devices. This series is the mobile equivalent of Call of Duty and even surpasses it in some ways.
