Red Orchestra 2 Review: Brutal, Brilliant, Broken [Dealspwn.com]

Dealspwn.com: "Red Orchestra 2's compelling authenticity and outstanding multiplayer suite are marred by a host of inexplicable technical issues that affect both gameplay and performance. Tripwire Interactive are known for their exceptional aftermarket support and will doubtlessly kill these problems over the next few months, but before they do, I can't give Red Orchestra 2 the glowing recommendation that I'd so dearly like to.

Review score subject to change, so check back soon."

It seems like Tripwire shot themsleves in the foot by releasing an unfinished game.

These sights want to give out a good score, but it seems the bugs and technical issues outweigh the positives.

I agree, I'm loving the game to death but it was released much to early. That's too bad because these scores are probably driving away some people.

BattleAxe4689d ago

You mean "sites", but I agree with you completely.

caboose324689d ago

Oh yea, thats what i meant haha. Too late to edit it now.

JsonHenry4689d ago

What technical issues?! I played during the beta and I play now- never had a crash one. No glitches in game. The worst problem is the occasional lag spikes. Changing servers fixes that problem.

jp02491074689d ago

I'm getting crashes, no sound at the beginning of matches, and the lag spikes are across servers. I wouldn't say the game is bad, in fact it's awesome, but it definitely needed some more time. The good part is TWI supports their games after release so we'll see some great maps and mods after a bit.

JsonHenry4689d ago

^^ What kind of rig are you running? I'm running AMD Phenom 965, HD5870, and 8gigs DDR3 RAM. No issues. NONE.

My only complaint is there was supposed to be an offline skirmish mode. According to the fact thread:

"Skirmish Mode: This mode can be played online and offline. You get three fire teams of three members each. Fire team members can be made up of human players or AI. The goal is to 'clear' the map of enemy AI. It can be compared to Terrorist Hunt mode in the Rainbow Six games. (Source:IGN Preview)" - This is not in the offline game mode at all...

The great thing about this game is that Tripwire (if the 1st RO is any indication) WILL constantly iron out bugs and glitches. RO was seeing constant updates, fixes and tweaks years after release. Their constant diligence and devotion to their game and fan base is second to none in my opinion. So many game devs just dont and wont follow up with improvements like tripwire does as they are more interested in their next cash cow game. I have great faith that this game will become legendary amongst the hardcore WWII sim folks. Bravo for shooting high. Sure maybe they should have spent some more dev time with this puppy but it will eventually grow up into a huge ravenous beast for those who are patient. To hell with all the whining babies who demand perfection right away. Patches can take care of spawn campers and the like. Those who are too scared to move up in tanks and refuse to play as a team etc just prove that this game is too intense for them, and will, with any luck fade away only to be replaced with people who know how this game is meant to be played. They are the ones who will be missing out and its probably for the best as I for one, dont want to play this game with them in my squad anyway, so run along and play your CoD and BF3. The real hardcore will be on RO HoS. RO veterans know what hell to do and understand the beast in this title. Patience fellows, the patches will come.

Gamers turned devs, what we all want in every game. Devs that care. If anything like their 1st game. RO2 will be supported, updated and have anti-cheat for years to come.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad679d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g679d ago (Edited 679d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

gurp79d ago

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

Not one flight simulator listed like DCS World one of the most hardcore flight sims ever or a racing simulator like iRacing? Really poor list

KesMonkey3044d ago

I clicked, curious where in the list DCS World would appear.

A top simulators list that doesn't include DCS World is a poor list.

A top simulators list that includes no flight simulators whatsoever is an extremely poor list.

A top simulators list that includes no flight sims or racing sims is a joke.

JumpToGamer3044d ago

List your top 10 list then ;)

Psychotica3044d ago

The fact that Bus Simulator made the list at all makes the list absurd, even Farming Simulator is better than that.

JumpToGamer3044d ago (Edited 3044d ago )

It's an opinion. I can have an opinion, you have an opinion. Everyone has an opinion. Some people prefer a Bus Simulator to a Farming Simulator. Who cares? We're all humans with our own tastes and opinions. What does it matter what someone else thinks?

Psychotica3044d ago

Well I am just voicing my opinion about your opinion...

Elwenil3044d ago

It lists ETS2 but not the new American Truck Simulator?

I agree, a very poorly thought out list.

ShadowKnight3044d ago (Edited 3044d ago )

Not a great list.
