EGM Review: Gears of War 3

We are the strength – we are soldiers

Games have a hard time saying goodbye (Final Fantasy, anyone?). But when they do decide to conclude—as we saw with 2007’s Halo 3 and 2008’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots—they often wrap things up in a way that rivals the best endings in cinema, literature, and television.

Cannot wait to play this :)

This game is looking amazing. All these high ratings is just solidifying Gears dominance as a 90+ franchise on meta. Sales only compliment just how HUGE the gears fanbase is and the demand for more Gears IP's.

StanLee4421d ago (Edited 4421d ago )

Yeah, with the beta, polished multiplayer, 4 player co-op, the preorder numbers and the great reviews it could sell as much as Halo Reach did in the same window last year. I've never seen this much interest in Gears of War among my friends.

Micro_Sony4420d ago

These reviews are based on the single player only correct?

The cant review the multi because no one is online.

MOTY4420d ago

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the servers were up and the reviewers were playing against each other? I don't know. But I have seen some reviews where the talk about the online and all the features and game modes. So if they haven't played the online, why even bother talking about it?

Microsoft!
Give me 3 exclusive like this one in a year and I'll be fine.

JeffGUNZ4421d ago

What matters if they are exclusive or not, as long as a good game is released, that's all that matters.

Biggest4421d ago

While JeffGUNZ is correct, it's not as if alb1899 has a choice. You don't have to ask for three exclusives. That's what you're going to get regardless of your desires.

Gears Of War 3 And Judgement Servers Are Brimming With Life Once Again

Gears of War 3 and Judgement servers have returned to their "updated" condition, adding several features, such as increased XP and more.

I currently play Gears 3 often, especially after the 60 FPS Boost. Gears of War is my favorite gaming franchise, and the Locusts are the coolest faction in history. Gears Judgment will always be a disgrace for not having the Locust in VS multiplayer.

AuraAbjure124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

GoW 3 and Judgement were the last installments before the series went woke and soulless. I'm level 50 in GoW 3 and LOVE it's multiplayer to death. It's just so crispy.

My first thought. Deserved to be somewhere in there.

Vits283d ago (Edited 283d ago )

That is the most "normie" list that I ever saw. This does make some sense given the console in question, but still.

Tacoboto282d ago

Sure, the list itself sucks. But that click-saver table-of-contents, every list should have that.

BrainSyphoned282d ago

Might as well list it as the One's top twenty as well since all it had for games was backward compatibility.

Gears of War is my favorite video game franchise, and the Locust is my all-time favorite faction.

My rank list:
1. Gears of War 2
2. Gears of War 3
3. Gears of War 1
4. Gears of War 4
5. Gears of War 5
6. Gears of War Judgment (No Locust in multiplayer was a disgrace)

DeusFever487d ago

Agree 100% with this ranking. The campaign in Gears of War 2 is among the most fun campaigns ever made. It’s been downhill from there.

Zombieburger638487d ago

I’d say gears 2 and 3 are pretty even. I absolutely loved both of them.

darthv72488d ago

2 is still my favorite but 5 is also up there (for me). Then I'd say 1, 3, 4 and Judgement. Tactics isnt the same type of game, so it seems odd to rank it among TPS when its a strategy game. So I make that one all its own. Pretty fun game too.

Jericho1337488d ago

The first is and has always been the best one imo - the story, the levels, the set pieces, the soundtrack - as close to perfect as a campaign can get.

I’d say the series had been on a continual downhill slide until 5.

Om4ever487d ago

Naaaan ... 2 is the best by far

I love the series as a whole, but 4 was pretty by the numbers, and Judgement was just ok.

LoveSpuds488d ago

I played them all since picking up a Series X about 7 months ago. Personally, I don't think time has been kind to the earlier games and they feel very slow and repetitive to play. Whilst the newer games may be prettier, they stick with the original gameplay mechanics too much in my view so as a whole series of titles, I think they are pretty average games.

Not to say they weren't fun and I have a lot of nostalgia for 1 and 2, I just think there are far better action games out there.
