Besides graphics i don't know what future consoles can do. The Wii U control looks very innovating and that will be a real changer. Xbox And Ps3 may need to look at something else. Xbox does have the kinect to fallback on and they can possibly perfect it, but Ps only has the move at the moment which is basically the same as the wii so it's not very innovating.
Online gaming was easily the best feature of this Gen i don't know if anyone can top that.

iamnsuperman5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

I can't believe this is going to be the second time I have to post this in 7 days

"The nunchike and navigation controller are similar but the actually motion controllers are done by different technology. The Wii uses IR along with 3 accelerometers . The Move is "The colored light serves as an active marker, the position of which can be tracked along the image plane by the PlayStation Eye. The uniform spherical shape and known size of the light also allows the system to simply determine the controller's distance from the PlayStation Eye through the light's image size, thus enabling the controller's position to be tracked in three dimensions with high precision and accuracy. The sphere-based distance calculation allows the controller to operate with minimal processing latency, as opposed to other camera-based control techniques on the PlayStation 3" (wiki) along with "a three-axis linear accelerometer and a three-axis angular rate sensor, are used to track rotation as well as overall motion. An internal magnetometer is also used for calibrating the controller's orientation against the Earth's magnetic field to help correct against cumulative error (drift) by the inertial sensors" (wiki)"

So in short it is not the same as the wii and is innovative because it is totally different tech.

I think it is going to be a graphics jump and not as big from SD to HD. I can't see the tablet controller being that successful or that useful but if Nintendo release the right games it could force Microsoft and Sony to follow suit.

mamotte5029d ago

So you take the controller in your hands and wave your arms and point at the screen to get motion controlled games.

Yeah, pretty different.

Seferoth755029d ago

You do realize that they work using almost the exact same method right? Wii has IR cameras in every controller that read the IR shot out by the sensor bar. The only way in which Move really differs is the camera is placed on the TV and you hold the sensor.

HeavenlySnipes5029d ago

imagine a next gen where NPCs do more than stand around and awit for you to talk to them, dynamic weather (No I don't mean just rain or sunshine, I mean actual seasons being in the game) AND day/night cycles, more effects (better lighting, destruction in almost every game, better physics, etc..), larger player/NPC counts (yes, I believe ARMA has like 100 of people on screen, but it'd be nice to have it on consoles)

All of that stuff will make games much better than they are now because devs don't have to worry about sacrificing certain stuff in order to make their game look better.

vishant1015029d ago

just wondering have you played mojora's mask?

limewax5029d ago

I think you were close with your first point, AI.

It has a limit due to current systems, When that limit is lifted AI will improve and that is where the next gen lies, it could actually be a bigger leap than this gen as it could bring games much closer to the movie genre they are often compared with.

And before anyone says why isn't it done on PC if it's possible? Well they have robots that can tell chairs from tables and stools, and hive-mind bots that can learn tasks and share them with any robot sharing its network. I'm sure better AI in games isn't hard to imagine.

N4g_null5029d ago

How about some creativity instead of realism. It's not even that realistic any way. How about animation because it's cool. How about new effiencent ways to control things and system that barely do hd and a system that does it plus more easily.

This next gen is the snes gen and you'll see why. Lots of games where praised for graphics alone now they will actualy have to play well. That along will make us forget about this gen as if it was the atari gen before the collapse.

I don't think the Wii U's controller is really innovative. It's a novel idea, but not revolutionary. The controller reminds me too much of the tablet, and essentially shares the design. A tablet with buttons.

jacen1005029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

i dont class it a tablet with buttons i class it as a control with a screen, because it has all the classic controller features that are being used at the moment and all the buttons are in the correct place still , only reason it gets the tablet tag is because its shaped like one but it has to be so fit the second screen, and like iamnsuperman says i can see the rest doing there versions of it if we start to see some interesting ways it can be used

Titanz5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

Better online service
HD visuals
(improved)Third party support
Traditional controller(with a twist)

Fanboys probably won't buy the Wii U, but everyone else(who can), will.

Micro_Sony5029d ago

WiiU Zelda and Nintendo has my money day 1.

PCE5029d ago

I'll buy one, although I won't line up day 1 for one. Waiting for all the Nintendo exclusives to stack up before I dive in.

The Wii U is quite promising though.

limewax5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

I will buy Wii-u as and when nintendo deliver an experience I feel is worth its price point. Same as every user should and will. I was late on Wii because there wasn't much to lure me in, when it fell to £150 I bought in. If Ninty deliver a higher end experience again then I will buy the console much earlier in its lifespan as I have with every Ninty console before the Wii, if that means a much higher price point is less of my concern

f7897905029d ago

You don't seem to know what "fanboy" means. A fanboy will buy a product regardless of how good or bad it is.

Shackdaddy8365029d ago

He means Sony/Microsoft fanboys.

TheFirstClassic5029d ago

They better finally release pikmin 3 on it. I've been wanting that game since the pikmin 2 came out. Also, I'm really wondering about the price.

mike1up5028d ago

I am not certain of who said it, maybe Miyamoto, hinted that Pikmin 3 would be available for the WiiU at launch. I dont have the interview anymore, wish i did, i would post it here for you.

Completely feel the same way though.

UltimateIdiot9115029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

WOAH WOAH, aren't you just assuming they will have better online service? We don't even know what their online service will be like. They barely got their shit together for online store on the 3DS. As far as we know, we don't know what the third party support will be like. I remember at the beginning of this gen, there were quite a few devs excited to work on the Wii and what do we have now? Lots of shovelware and barely any worthwhile titles.

What's this traditional controller with a twist you're talking about? If it's the tablet controller, the WiiU only supports 1 which makes you wonder what the other controllers will be like and how local multiplayer would work.

So let's not get too ahead of ourselves here.

As for me, I'm going to wait and see. Nintendo hasn't exactly have the best track record for anything outside of their first party title nor am I a fan of their wiimote. I have a Wii at home but the only one who plays it is my dad with WiiSport.

Also console sales don't make $$$, it's software sales. I'm pretty sure most of their money comes primary from DS software sales and not Wii software sales.

Point is, Nintendo has a long way to go to change people's opinion.

Silly gameAr5029d ago

Yes, it's the fanboys that won't buy them. The people that no interest in the Wii-U must be fanboys.

Brilliant.

Titanz5029d ago

I was addressing that fanbase. You're right about the fanboy generalisation, and I apologise for that.

The score for the first Plants Vs Zombies is such great, iconic music that it has a timeless quality. Not quite the level of Minecraft, but wonderful in its own right.
