If you haven't bought a current gen console, I think the best move would be to start with PS3. You'll have free access to online play, a huge amount of exclusives to look forward to as well as all the great multiplats, not to mention all the games already released including 2008 GOTY winners MGS4 and LBP and 2009 GOTY UC2, games that any serious gamer should have already played. Not to mention the myriad of other features the PS3 has such as bluray.

After that buy a 360 if you're really into Halo and Gears and a Wii if you like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.

You've listed everything great about the ps3 and make it sounded like the only thing great about the 360 is gears and halo...

On topic..i own 100+ 360 games since year one and only a hater would pretend that the 360 only has Gears and Halo.but yup those are the top two franchises..just like the PS3 has Gran Turismo and Uncharted as it's top two franchises.

Honestly people getting 360s now have it good as there are limitless gaming experiences that are so cheap at this point it's not funny. Not to mentions Xbox Live arcade is just a whole entity unto itself.

It is the only thong the 360 is good for is RRoD...

I joke. It depends on what the person wants to play, and whether their mates have PS3 or 360. I have both, but I use my 360 more because I have more mates on it; that, and cross game voice chat is nice.

But the PS3 has great exclusives such as Uncharted, God of War, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance, Gran Turismo and the PlayStation Minis. There's also Steam support for Portal 2 and possibly future titles. And you can't say all that without mentioning PlayStation Home, VidZone (free music videos) and all of the TV streaming services. All for free.

But then the 360 does have the coveted cross game voice chat and the Xbox LIVE Arcade which does have some great indie games. The Dash is a lot more busy than the XMB but I think it looks better, but I'm not looking forward to the new Dash that's coming out in the next few months. Of course, you can't forget the 360 exclusives like Halo, Forza and Gears of War. Also CoD map packs get released here first, so if you're into that then you should probably know. Though I find it more of an annoyance than anything, and I own Blops on 360.

In the end it's down to the end user which system is best for them. I've noticed a lot of people that now have both systems because they do both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Man up and admit you're wrong. There's nothing trolling about TheMyst's statement, nothing trolling about his past statements either. Each point he mentions is 100% valid and are excellent reasons to choose a PS3. Halo and Gears are top games for the 360 and are among the strongest points for buying the platform. You shouting "troll" doesn't make it so.

It just proves you're hostile towards other gamers on this site that might want to have a legitimate conversation related to gaming. Why not debate what gamers say rather than making childish, baseless personal attacks.

I've been around for years and you've been a major 360 fanboy for God know's how long. Extreme case of the pot calling the kettle black. On the subject of consoles, I have both but honestly since I've moved here to Japan, it's stayed in it's box under my TV while my PS3 gets usage daily. The PS3's variety really can't be beat and with free online as well as a dedicated Blu-Ray player, it really is a great entry console. I would only suggest getting a 360 if you want to supplement it and play Halo or CoD with friends.

Get PS3, eyetoy is kinect, move is wii, great exclusives, blu-ray player, save movies ,pictures, music and free internet play... Great games from all genres and LOTs more exclusives on the way... And now starting at $250 great bang for your buck and pretty reliable , also does 3D ....

i think the ps3 would be ideal option for a new comer free online play, games galore, wifi, reliable,cheap, built in batteries in controller, blutooth, hdd in all models, internet browser,download movies music and picture direct from the browser. the ps3 is a really really nice console the 360 is also a nice console but imo too many extra stuff needs to be bought to get the full features of the console when buyin a ps3 onlything you have to buy is a blutooth headset and its not a must.
