If they are smart a new franchise at launch makes sense. It will introduce everyone to the game. Like Resistance for the PS3. Forza is more likely than Gears 4. Gears 4 is big if they waited a year after release there will be more people who will buy it to play it.

WolfLeBlack2593d ago

Agreed. A new and exciting IP backed up by a few of the existing exclusives, like Gears and Forza, would give them a wide audience.

DarkCharizard_2593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

Lolwut? PS3 didn't have a good launch at all. When consoles launch with established franchises, they are far more successful. Not saying that a new IP isn't welcome, just that it isn't enough to successfully launch a new console.

SNES Launch - Super Mario

N64 Launch - Super Mario

PS2 Launch - Street Fighter, Tekken, DoA, Ridge Racer, Unreal Tournament

Wii - The Legend of Zelda, Warioware

Xbox 720 will definitely do well with Forza and Gears at launch!

iamnsuperman2593d ago

@DarkCharizard_ You missed my point. I never commented on the PS3 launch. It was smart for Sony to release Resistance as a launch title.

WolfLeBlack2593d ago

@DarkCharizar; iamsuperman didn't comment on the quality of the PS3's launch, he merely stated that it was smart to have a brand new IP alongside the console when it came out.

I believe a new IP or two backed by established series provides the best launch platform for a new generation console.

TOO PAWNED2593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

best time to launch new IP is at the start of the gen. Anyone who has been gaming for more then a few years knows this by know. Except for people like DarkChild, got their xbox last Christmas and now he knows everything.
MS wouldn't gain anything by releasing these two IP at launch. Only same consumers. Save those for one year after the launch.

jacksheen00002593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

I disagree. Gear 4 and Foza 4 at launch would be a better idea simply because it would make it easier to make graphical comparison between both systems(lastGEN vs NextGen) from a recognizable franchise like Gears/Foza.This is, of course,is something that most core gamers love to do, make comparison, especially at the beginning. Now don't get me wrong, a new IP sounds like a great idea. But I'd rather wait until the game developers gain enough experience working with a new DEV before deciding to develop a new IP.
remember...Good things come to those who wait.

blumatt2593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

This isn't so much a bad idea, except that they need more exclusives besides their Big 4 exclusives. The sad thing is that Xbox World Mag will be saying another 5-6 years from now that Gears 7 and Forza 8 will be Xbox 4 launch titles. lol They keep using the same games so much that they're at the milking point.

Buy some new studios and make some exciting new IPs.

JellyJelly2593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

Who said they won't have new franchises also?

And if they have they certainly won't leak them now.

sdtarm2593d ago

yeah charizard thats why nintendo keeps milking mario cuz they got no talent ok? dont compare them with the likes of sony capicce?

This rather fits in with the timelines we've heard thrown around so far. Usually there are 2 years between Gears releases. A new Gears would be 2013, and that's often the year that crops up when discussing the next Xbox iteration. That would mean we'd probably see a reveal at next year's E3. That's pretty exciting when I start to think about it.

Micro_Sony2593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

Forza is very possible but Gears 4 dont think so.

I can see a new exclusive from EPIC being that Cliffy is good buddies with MS.

Also if the 720 releases before the PS4 then you can expect allot of developers to make a game for the 720 at launch kinda of like the 360.

Eventually some games will get ported over to the PS4 but if Sony is smart they wont let history repeat it self and make MS get a head start on next gen - that Next gen starts when we say so attitude does not work and MS has gathered a huge fanbase this gen.

Edit: Also I can see MS taken advantage of the head start and work out some deal with Activision to release a new Call of Duty on the 720.

gamingdroid2593d ago

Epic has in the past mentioned how MS is a great partner and how Gears of War fits with the Xbox well. It wouldn't surprise me if it stayed exclusive next generation as well.

Blaze9292593d ago

how can there be Gears of War 4 when Gears of War 3 ends the trilogy?...meaning no more counting.

gamingdroid2593d ago

A new trilogy?

Because a game is written as a trilogy doesn't mean the story can't continue. Remember the days when studios would only plan for one game and now they plan for three.

In the future, maybe six?

Blaze9292592d ago

Halo was never a planned trilogy nor was it announced as one. Just, "finish the fight."

IM_A_NINJA2593d ago

I have to respectfully disagree. I was all set to wait for a game I actually liked when the Xbox 360 came out, but then when I saw Gears I knew I had to have one.

A Gears Of War at launch for the next Xbox would definitely be a system seller, which is what launches are all about.

As for new IP's, they don't usually push a new console, but they might look for something from Crytek or someone like that to do an exclusive out of the gate.

Sort of how the Xbox 360 launched with games like Condemned, Call Of Duty 2 and Saints Row, which are still some of the better games this generation.

TheMyst2593d ago

Forza is almost a given as it comes out roughly ever two years, so a 2013 720 release would fit perfect.

Isn't gear 3 the end of the trilogy? Why would they make Gears 4? Maybe a spin-off but I don't think they'll be direct sequel.

What I would love is a prequel game where you're on the front lines during E-Day.

theonlylolking2592d ago

Dont give M$ any good ideas. We dont want them to survive next gen.

petko232593d ago

i don't know. since epic already said: "Epic Games 'Would Love' to Put Gears of War on PS3" ( http://www.industrygamers.c... micro will need give a lot of money to epic if they want gears of war stay x360 exclusive. if they think they can sell 5 million on ps3 = 300 million dollars

Micro_Sony2593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

Unless Sony changes the Dual Shock 3 then Gears will never be on the PS3. Cliffy B does not like the PS3 controller and that one reason why Gears is not on the PS3.

“I would say in the foreseeable future there’s zero chances of Gears of War being on the PlayStation 3. Can we bury that now? Seriously. It’s like, we have a great deal with Microsoft, they’re a great partner…”

“It’s one of those things that would be exciting news. Hopefully DualShock would get tweaked a little bit, but anyway, enough about that.”

"micro will need give a lot of money to epic if they want gears of war stay x360 exclusive"

Your talking about MS who gave R* a sh!tload of money for time DLC and gave Kinect a boat load of money for marketing.

gamingdroid2593d ago

You do realize that MS is the one that not only enabled Epic, but also help them to become the engine licensor they are today, right?

That sort of partnership isn't something you just walk away from and that is why I would find it odd if Epic and MS parted ways. Maybe MS new engine developer is Crytek.

TheMyst2593d ago

Bungie parted ways with MS and their relationship was even closer. It could happen man, money talks and after finishing off the trilogy, it seems Epic has paid MS back in full. They own the IP and it could very well end up on PS3.

gamingdroid2592d ago

I'm not saying relationships aren't broken, it happens. However, with Bungie there were many indications they wanted to do another project.

It's common practice to spread some rumors to pressure the other party, but most recently Mike Capps (president of Epic games) expressed his satisfaction with MS as a partner.

KMCROC2592d ago

Even so, Capps acknowledges that Microsoft has been immensely helpful to Epic with the Gears franchise. "I don't regret what we're doing with Microsoft. They make it worthwhile all the time," he said.

FlareDReborn2593d ago

LOL Micro$oft only has Gears and Forza exclusives maybe they should think of new IP's instead of milk milk milking it any further.

Disagree? Come at me bruh!!! >;D

Father Murder X2593d ago

It makes since because of the current 2 year cycle on games. 2011-Gears 3, Forza-4
2012-Halo 4

2013-Gears 4, Forza-5
2014 Halo 5,

They bring something big every year. With the exception of this being a Halo/Forza/Gears year because of the Halo remake. M$ usually runs a predicatable schedule with their games. I think that the surprising success of Kinect probably allowed them to push Gears back.

Bob5702593d ago

I highly doubt that Halo will change to a two year cycle. They've been working on Halo 4 for 2 years already. The only reason Halo 4 is coming out 2 years after Reach is because there was a year of overlap time while Bungie was working on Reach.

I honestly don't think they will be able to do Halo justice with only a 2 year development time, and Frank O'Connor is definitely very passionate about making a Halo experience that the veterans will be able to love.

Jdrm032592d ago (Edited 2592d ago )

Halo 3- 2007
halo wars - 2009
Halo odst - 2009
halo reach - 2010
halo CE remake - 2011
Halo 4 - 2012

^ this is a big problem imo. They need to separate Halo titles at minimum 2 years....They will quickly kill the franchise if this is what Microsoft has planned to do with the franchise...5 titles of the same franchise in a span of 4 years in unacceptable....Microsoft needs to expand and expand fast.

By the looks of it Microsoft is going to make yearly releases of halo in one form another...

Convas2592d ago (Edited 2592d ago )

Err, excuse me, Halo 4 has been production since 2008.

That'll be about 4 years of development once it launches next year.

Ayepecks2593d ago

That's what I was thinking: that this would mean the next Xbox is coming in 2013, since the Gears and Halo franchises do the whole "leapfrog strategy" thing.

Seems plausible.

IQUITN4G2593d ago

MS would absolutely need killer software like these two. Turn 10 and the newly realised IBL technique would be very likey uncanny photorealism and a very big deal for people that like to go wow. Similarly a Gears4 with the already shown new unreal tech for next gen would also truly wow people

If MS knows what it's doing, and i believe they do, this is just the sort of thing to expect from them and partners
