5 Reasons to Choose PC over Consoles

In response to the 5 Reasons to Choose Consoles over PC by Expertgamingnews, we have put together our very own list of reasons to pick PC over a console. Keep in mind that both consoles and PC are good in their own ways, but some of the reasons presented in the article were quite ridiculous. To counter that here are the top five reasons to go PC rather than console.

One of the biggest reason i don't game on pc is because none of my friends do.

caboose322687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

See it's very different for me. All my closest friends from high school are pc gamers, so it's my main platform of choice.

And BTW, how come every time one group starts an article like this, the other one has to fire right back and make one too?? It's just so stupid.

xX-StolenSoul-Xx2687d ago

Oh, i've use to be a big pc gamer back last gen during ps2 and xbox 1 era but online gaming wasn't as big on consoles back then so none of my friends gamed much but now with this gen I switched to have fun with friends but pc gaming will always be my choice... now if i can get my friends to beef up their PC lol.

-Alpha2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

^ Make new friends!

To my benefit, I have FOUR PSN friends who have upgraded their PC's for Battlefield 3. I will be #5. With those friends I will revitalize my PC gaming career and will likely become a PC gamer moving forward while using my PS3/PS4 for just exclusives.

I can't wait to play a bunch of great exclusives and multiplatforms in all their superior glory on the PC. I'm so tired of playing great shooters like Battlefield on the PSN where the community is nowhere near that of the PC and I hate paying $60 for RPGs like Skyrim when the PC gets all the fun mods.

olLANDSHARKlo2686d ago

-Alpha, can you send us a pic of your gaming setup. where you play the screen, comp., I wanna see how the seating is for friends when they come over and wanna play along. Watch this guys, this thread will die quick now.

Theonetheonly2686d ago

Heres a pic of my old open air setup just for kicks.

I choose pc because Its exactly MY style.

Pixel_Pusher2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

jesus christ that one big f**king cpu cooler. lol

doing the same as Alpha, PS3 for exclusives, PC for everything else.

if you computer is capable of playing it then this is the only reason you need to choose PC gaming over consoles.

1080p 60FPS looks fucking amazing

Matt06112686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

damn, smoker.

haha, I don't really care, just felt the need to point it out. Smoke em up, Reed.

Outside_ofthe_Box2686d ago

lol at this article. Can PC gamers get any worse?

Consoles were made for gaming that is the reason why Consoles > PC. No need to create a article in response to one that was only spilling out the truth.

At the end of the day, PC gamers are nothing but a bunch of pirating pricks.

Just stick to pirating and playing World of Warcraft while shelling out thousands of dollars each year to upgrade your constantly outdated PC lol and leaving gaming journalism to real gamers.

caboose322686d ago

You give every console only gamer a bad name.

And you clearly dont think outside the box like your name says because your too f*cking ignorant to even think straigt.

DragonKnight2686d ago

Man, so many articles trying to stroke PC gamer egos lately. It's like there's something wrong that requires PC gamers be coddled with affirmations in the form of articles.

caboose322686d ago

I was waiting for you to post something slightly brain dead. If you havent noticed(and clearly you havent) there have been just as many console centric articles designed for the stroking of the ego too.

It seems as those types of articles are geared towards gamers like you. I was smart enough to get a ps3 as well as a great gaming pc so I have nothing to complain about. But it looks like some of you guys need reassuring that your exclusives were crafted by the gods themselves.

DragonKnight2686d ago

@caboose: Do you know what I'm playing right now? I'm playing Suikoden 2 on ePSXe. That's a PS1 emulator for my PC. So yeah, you can continue and make an ass out of yourself all you want to, but please try to contain it to yourself and not extended that stupidity to others. Causality is the reason for these stupid articles. And lately there has been a smattering of PC ego stroking articles for literally no justifiable purpose.

It is agreed that any "top ___ reasons to ___" articles are stupid, but in the past week I have seen more PC ego stroking than I have seen any 360, PS3, or Wii articles of the same caliber in months. So explain to me, since it's obvious that an open hardware format would evidently have superior technical performance, why then must it be constantly hammered into the media over and over and over and over and over ad nauseum? Simple answer is that PC gaming needs to be validated somehow. And the only reason for that would be because console gaming is performing better on a whole than PC gaming. So again, PC ego stroking.

CrzyFooL2686d ago

ewwwww open bench!! gross!! not a fan!!

PCE2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

I myself used to be a console gamer but all the console fantards and their rock-equivalent intelligence drove me away to PC gaming. The idiots really soured the taste of the "superior PS3" and I just ended up building my own robust gaming rig and I never look back. It feels good to be able to enjoy the unending freedom with mod support and playing online with a mature community.

blackmagic2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

Here you go!
1st picture: Secondary monitor, pc, reciever (7.1 setup), 360, power conditioner, battery backup and normally ps3 at the bottom. I don't want to talk about why it is missing...

2nd picture: primary monitor, projected on my 133 in screen.

note, this is set up in my rec room temporarily while my home theatre gets upgrades, namely a 2560x1080 resolution anamorphic projector and screen setup, automated lighting and extending the room to allow for a second row of recliners.

Care to post YOUR setup???

Edit: another shot, for scale

alien6262686d ago

heck i got a really good and i mean good computer on ebay for like $230 guy was selling because he needed money quick

evrfighter2686d ago

wow pc vs console is turning into a full blown war.

potedude2687d ago

One of the biggest reasons I don't game on a pc is it costs a freakin' bomb!

And don't bother telling me you can make a gaming rig for X amount of dollars cos;
1. I don't know how to assemble a pc and
2. I don't want to have to assemble a pc (thats why I bought a console)and
3. I live in Australia and pc's cost a LOT of money (unlike in the USA where you can pick one up for half nothing)

Consoles for gaming, pc for working...

xX-StolenSoul-Xx2687d ago

It still cost alot to make a gaming pc compared to a console.

It's not hard to assemble a pc though, I've done this all through highschool in my computer tech class. It's pretty much common sense.

just_looken2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

OMFG TY 2 NON SHEEP SO MANY SPOILED USA PEOPLE SAY THAT JUST BUILD YOUR RIG ERR. I agree to both of you yes pc gaming has its advantage but if you have a top of the line rig or a 2 year old top of the line rig your one of few people that do. I have one but when i go on psn i don't brag about it because so few have gaming pc's and just game on console's there cheaper and easier to maintain.

As for the article agree aswell except for upgrade/keybord mouse. Few few games push 2008 pc hardware bf3 will hopefully be a real full dx11 game but have origin and lots of drm (f that game).

Yes it suck's that there is the lack of games that play 100% with no patch's/modding needed out of the box. Skyrim for example if i could i would bet $20 it will be busted and require the community to fix it like oblivion. Yes the pc version will look better and play alot better and have more content but if it crash's to desktop/freeze's etc who cares. Though console versions of fallout fared no better lol. anyhow pc's>consoles on graphics and power but game performance depends on the game and developer.Oh and only of your a crazy pc gamer you buy a fancy keyboard/mouse i just use blue track mouse and a wave keyboard aswell a ms controller.

-Alpha2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

You don't have to assemble one, but it's a lot of fun doing research and understanding how to build one. I am really enjoying gathering my information and readying the build.

Too bad you live in Australia, but fact of the matter is that a PC is a much better long term investment. Lots of people bought a PS3 for $500-$600 when a PC would have been a much better investment back then. PC's today would last you well into next gen while managing to look as good as console counterparts when your hardware ages.

stevenhiggster2686d ago

I would always recommend a mouse up grade, Keyboard not so much though.
I have a MS keyboard I bought for like £5 and it is fine. But the mouse makes a huge difference.
I have 2 mice one Logitech Laser G9 5700dpi and one Mionix Naoss 3200dpi optical.
While the mionix is much more comfortable to use the Logitech makes aiming and moving so much smoother and more accurate and it really does make a massive difference. Both of them are pretty expensive mice so it's not like comparing an expensive mouse to a cheap one, even at higher prices there is still a massive difference between mice.
I would always recommend a laser for any FPS players.

callahan092686d ago

This is a very good budget PC:

Important components included:

Dual-Core 3.1 GHz CPU
8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
Radeon HD 5570

All for only 300 dollars! The only thing that really keeps this from being a killer deal is the motherboard, which is a fairly weak motherboard, with no SATA III 6.0G/s, no USB 3.0, only supports RAM up to 1333MHz when I would myself prefer my board to support up to 2000MHz RAM, and only a single PCI-E x16 slot (so no potential to add another GPU for CrossfireX).

But you don't need support for all that stuff if you're on a budget.

The GPU here is an HD 5570, which is a fairly powerful card with full DirectX 11 support. I will compare it's basic qualities to the PS3's GPU (RSX) so you can have an idea of its power:

Spec: Radeon HD 5570, PS3 RSX
Core Clock: 650 MHz, 550 MHz
Computational Performance: 520 GFLOPS, 400 GFLOPS
Texture Fill Rate: 13 GTexels/s, 13.2 GTexels/s
Pixel Fill Rate: 5.2 GPixels/s, 4.4 GPixels/s
Memory: 1 GB @ 1000 MHz, 256 MB @ 700 MHz

So it is capable of faster computational performance, very similar in texture fill rate, faster pixel fill rate, and much faster memory bandwidth than the PS3's GPU, to give you an idea of its capabilities.

And for comparison sake with a console title for performance, have a look at this:

This card is capable of playing Resident Evil 5, with 4x AA (anti-aliasing), all settings MAXED out including Blur activated, at 1920x1200 resolution (which is a HIGHER resolution than 1080p, and a resolution which the PS3 and 360 are not even capable of outputting), at 30 frames per second. For comparison's sake, the console versions don't feature this level of texture detail, post-processing effects, anti-aliasing, or even half the native resolution, and run at that same 30 fps.

You say you can't build your own PC, but I assure you, you can. It isn't difficult, it just requires a little patience. It can actually be quite fun to put all the pieces together. Think of it like legos, k'nex, or an erector set, and when you're done putting all the pieces together, you've got a kick-ass machine that you can play games on and that you purchased for significantly less money than if some random guy at a computer store put the pieces together for you. It's a nice skill to have, and literally anyone can learn to do it. When I was a kid, actually, I went to a computer camp and they had us all build machines, and one of the other kids there had cerebral paulsy, he was in a motorized wheelchair, had to use an oxygen tank to breath, and had little to no strength in his arms and hands, and he was even able to accomplish the build, so yeah, I think anyone can do it. Just look at some tutorials and instructional videos on youtube, and you'll be good to go. Just requires a little research.

Pixel_Pusher2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

If a lifelong Mac user can build a PC then so can you.

If you're interested in building your own PC but think it's an overly complex process then I highly recommend you check the link below.

wsoutlaw872686d ago

haha if i had that set up in my room my gf would probably leave me. and it still doesnt match a 55" with full surround sound. Do you really have that hard of a time getting used to an analog stick where you would rather use a key board for a game.

Waddy1012686d ago

Thing is with a PC you can have 3 55" TV's with Full surround sound if you wanted to.

wsoutlaw872686d ago

ya you could but what are you going to do, throw a 55" inch tv up on you're computer desk. Then just get a game specific controller that you can actually hold, os, and standard gaming network/store, then throw in all the big games, lower price, fully supported accessories, less cheaters, best motion gaming options, games made to max out you system with out having to worry about needing to upgrade or having your game preform like crap, more games and genres for real gamers, and the confidence that you will be able to play the games on their max settings for the next 10 years, and you got your self a console; and it only cost 400 (250$ now). But, keep your pc so you can get marginally better graphics 6 years after the console is released. Dont get me wrong, i love shogun 2 and play it every day on highest settings with my new laptop in the 40 minute game between classes but consoles are for games, pcs are for my homework and internet browsing.

1 Reason not choose Console over PC: Because you want to and prefer it

Vladplaya2686d ago

Get new friends, or be a mature one and make a switch to PC, if your friends gonna stop talking to you because of that, than you should have listen to my first advise and got new friends ;)

xX-StolenSoul-Xx2686d ago

Im talking real life friends, i did recently start college though maybe i'll find some pc gamers their.

Resistance2686d ago

Actually i my friends are the ones who got me into it. I'll never go back lol

Anon19742685d ago

I'm looking at this list and seeing a checklist of why I don't game on the PC.

Patches, I hate em. Hate em on the consoles, hate em on the PC. Still, I remember the days when a game shipped broken, it stayed broken and you just wasted your money. Patches are certainly better than the alternative.

The perfect gaming setup. Sorry, that's not it, for me. That's what my workstation looks like now. My perfect gaming setup is sitting on my couch, in front of my 1080p projector screen with huge speakers and a 7.1 home theater. Oh wait, that's what I currently have.

The issue of piracy. Yep, it's an issue. Hackers are even more a problem on the PC. That's PC gaming for you.

Mouse and keyboard. The keyboard wasn't made for gaming. asdw and another 35 keys to memorize is not how games are meant to be played. I did that for 2 decades. I'm not going back.

Upgrades. Hate em. I hate the hassle. I hate how upgrades never, ever go smoothly. I hate dealing with drivers that support one game but won't support another. I hate the cost. I used to have to have a driver preference utility that would load different sound and graphics drivers to play this game compared to that game because of stupid driver support issues, and even then I'd still have problems. I can't believe I gamed like that for so long. It's simply not worth it to me.

It's funny how each point you raise as to why you should game on a PC are actually some of the very reasons I don't game on my PC. At the end of the day, if that's how you want to play, more power to you - but PC gaming isn't for everyone. Don't pretend your gaming opinions are somehow more valid than mine.

1- console game cost me in UK,£39.99 were as pc £29.99
£10 saved
2- deadicated servers
3- not needed to say but yes graphically generations ahead. also able to optimize the video settings.

Thats just to start with but to me there for me one of the fav upsides to pc gaming.

purple1052686d ago

Why are your servers dead? :(

Pikajew2686d ago

I choose both! How do you like them apples?

Waddy1012686d ago

*noms on those Apples. You sir are the kinda of gamer that i love, all gaming devices have their pros and cons it all comes down to personal preference.

You triple your cost - thats a good incentive

really this post just uses the same reasons as this article posted yesterday, lol its even in the same order
