Why Dead Island's 'Feminist Whore' Slur is a Problem

GamePro's Pete Davison writes: Who plays games? It's a question that's often returned to by journalists, analysts and marketers alike. Twenty years ago, it was a relatively simple answer, with a few exceptions: young boys. But today, gaming enjoys a diverse worldwide audience transcending gender, race, sexuality and age. It's no longer a pursuit for sweaty, acne-ridden boys -- it's a mainstream hobby which millions of people enjoy every day, often at the expense of other, older, more well-established forms of entertainment such as TV and movies.

Obviously an internal joke and not something to overanalyze. Oops too late. Where's Fox News? "Video Game Says All Women Are Whores".

These guys are great at grabbing peoples attention.

"The problem with the "Feminist Whore" slur is that it was not expected -- or indeed intended to even be in the game."

So that was the problem...? Really?

p.s. Who is that hot piece of @ss in the picture? (That was meant to be posted... so no problems here)

Dumb article. There is really no problem.

Quagmire2599d ago

This is getting blown outta proportion. Can we all just ignore these articles?

Isn't Feminist Whore an oxymoron?

Also, why would a guy be offended by this?

aaaaaaaaa2599d ago

Because he is in touch with his feminine side (maybe a bit to much)

I KNEW there was some reason the phrase didn't seem to mean anything to me. But I was too wrapped up saying, "So what?" to notice that you're exactly right: it's an oxymoron.
