MMGN writes: So you think your life is pretty bad, hey? Well, spare a thought for our beloved videogame characters, all of whom are fighting a seemingly endless battle for survival/supremacy/advancement /money. There is a very consistent theme present in videogames these days, and looking at the release list for the next few weeks reads like a collection of apocalyptic predictions of biblical proportions.
In all seriousness though, every major console release seems to have some sort of narrative based around war, extinction or invasion, ultimately leading into assumptions of a global apocalypse and the end of the human race. Moving from one apocalyptic tale to the next is somewhat depressing, and I can't help but wonder if videogames are taking themselves too seriously.
