Rise of Nightmares Review | GoozerNation

Rise of Nightmares is the newest release for Kinect owners. Many people are extremely curious about this game, not that it’s a day-one, must-have game, but because it’s one of the first serious, dare we say, hardcore, games for Kinect on Xbox 360. Let’s take a look at what the first two hours of the game offers.

Looks fairly generic, to me.

the bad
"To move manually, you lift one of your legs in the air. The higher you raise your leg, the faster you go. If you want to move, then turn your shoulders. Go ahead and try this now. Stand up, raise one leg, then turn your shoulders. How many of you just nearly toppled over?"

the good
"This is when the game shines. The hacking, slashing and kicking of zombies is a ton of fun."

You don't life one leg in the air, you put one foot in front of the other. It picks up the movements incredibly accurately.

If it was a controller-based game, then Yes, it is generic. But it's a Kinect game, so it's reviewed on a different level. That in itself could be an interesting article: should Kinect games be held to a different standard in terms of gameplay and graphics?

You don't have to "lift your leg" to walk. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other. The further out you put it, the faster he goes though he doesn't break out in a full run.

And yes, you can play this in the dark.

JimmyJames702600d ago

That's debatable about playing in the dark. Kinect was having a hard time seeing me when I had the lights low. When I turned on an extra light, suddenly the controls worked much better. When I turned the lights low again, yes, it still worked, but not nearly as well.

As for the leg, it's a matter of semantics.

IM_A_NINJA2600d ago

No it's not debatable, I played through the game at night, in the dark. It worked fine. You just have to make sure you have enough room to actually play the game properly.

Rise Of Nightmares needs a bit more space then most Kinect games, but other then that it was a great first "core" attempt.

Well that's you then. I play in the dark all the time with it, and I'm black, and I've never had problems with lighting.

JimmyJames702600d ago

I'll try it again tonight with the lights completely off and only moving my leg forward without lifting. Then I'll let you know if you're correct.
