Versus - Dead Island Screenshot Comparison [720p/HDMI] | GameBlurb

GameBlurb writes, "Our Versus feature pits screenshots of cross platform titles against each other and you the viewer will decide the outcome! So make your voice heard in the comments and the polls!

It’s PlayStation 3 vs Xbox 360 and the game that’s going to square off is Deep Silver’s Dead Island. Which will emerge victorious? Or will the battle end in a wash?

Normally we do not comment on performance, but it is worth mentioning it in the case of Dead Island. Both console versions of Dead Island are riddled with performance issues. Texturing streaming glitches, model pops and horrendous screen tearing are just a few of the sights you will see on your island adventure. At times the screen tearing is more frightening than the zombies.

*Captured via HDMI, Full Range @ 720p. All images are cropped from the 720p source. Levels were adjusted in-game to ensure a closer comparison."

360 definitely wins in terms of atmospheric colors

Nitrowolf23467d ago (Edited 3467d ago )

are you kidding me? The 360 version colors are washed out and the 2nd, 5th, and 6th picture on page one proves that. there is a huge difference in color and details in that 6th picture.
PS3 version looks a lot more clearer in many of these shots.

have to agree here, the PS3 version appears to have an edge visually. The performance has me worried though, anyone play the console version that can comment?

MysticStrummer3467d ago

@Kiroe - I'm only 8% into the story and I wish I hadn't bought this game. It actually gave me a headache, which games never do to me. I should have bought Resistance 3 instead and I may trade this in tomorrow.

The PS3 was better in terms of texture resolution, item rendering, and lighting. You notice that on the 360 screens the textures are kinda muddy and less clear. The PS3 has a higher rez texture and you notice the clarity.

In certain screens you notice that there are objects on the screen that have more detail in the PS3 version such as the plants having higher detail and more leaves where the 360 will have slightly less detailed objects with fewer polygons.

Lighting unfortunately I think is not being done properly in this comparison. The 360 does not have the same white balance for light as the PS3 screens and you notice that the lighting on the PS3 has a higher contrast between areas that are lit and areas that are dark whereas the 360 has almost a coating of post render brightness.

I think that the people doing the comparison need to go into the 360 settings and move the brightness down one notch because its obvious that they did not calibrate the brightness properly on the 360. I really think lighting could be a draw in this comparison because of the lack of calibrating the brightness within the 360 system itself.

Overall both versions are on par with each other.

On another note anti aliasing seems to be a weak point in this game on both versions and there is no clear winner on that front.

I also have not seen how the 360 plays in motion but from my experience with the PS3 version there are some irritating screen tearing every 10-15 seconds which means the developers need to desperately calibrate the V-sync.

which can be fixed by tv settings

Nitrowolf23467d ago (Edited 3467d ago )

That's true, but what's the point if your gonna end up switching the settings back later because it would mess up the looks of other games? I mean doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of developers making makes look identical if they can just tell people to adjust the sets themselves?

I mean that 6th picture the shirt is clear Red on PS3, but on 360 it's more of a gray. really want to change the set that much just to get it to be the same color?

Haven't popped in Dead island yet so maybe there's gamma and other video settings that can be tweaked in game.

But that's what PS3 peeps say to do whenever pictures look slightly off.

BlackTar1873466d ago

which is why its bad form to say it back.

C_Menz3467d ago

Both look pretty much the same besides the difference in light/dark colors that are seen in most multi-platform games for the 360/ps3.

Sure, there are a few minor differences graphically between the two. But nobody will notice the difference unless you are that hellbent on fighting over a few different pixels.

It's interesting how Lens of Truth's comparison looks quite different than Gameblurb's. Especially on lighting and colors. Despite that, both sites state that PS3's version is better.

MysticStrummer3467d ago

If that's true then damn... the 360 version must look like ass, and not a nice one.

Agent_hitman3467d ago

360 fanboys cant accept that since 2009 PS3 versions of multiplat games are more identical to 360.. they used brag that 360 is much better, but that days are over, they should STFU

MysticStrummer3467d ago

I'm not sure this is a game for either camp to brag about.
