Does the Razer Blade prove that PC gaming is DOA?

I see what you are saying, but PC gamers are a different animal all together than a console gamer. My self I have access to most gaming platforms in my home and being PC\PS3 gamer I prefer PC for FPS and RPG, the PS3 for exclusives and racing & action games and yes the PS3 \360 are easier most part " pop in and play " the PC the same mostly if looked after and kept upto date with drivers etc the other thing that makes the PC apart is mods, SDK's, editors a kind of freedom thats still not seen on consoles as of yet each to their own I say.

All that + A laptop as powerful + more than 100 games on steam, and even then, you will still have extra money left.

Uhh considering that gaming laptops isn't the representation of "PC gaming," that example is stupid.

PC Gaming consist of a desktop PC with a discrete GPU and CPU. Of course obviously with varying speeds and power.

The real beauty is that PC gaming can match anyone's budget. The more money you put, the better experience you can have. For example, I'm extremely content with my 1080p 23" Monitor, GTX 580. However, I have a friend who just had to go the extra mile and get the 5 Vertical monitors and run a Radeon HD6990.

So these $2,000 "Gaming" laptops are extremely niche.

PC gaming £500 to £2000 to suit your own budget, my self i3 cpu ,GTX460 and 8 gb ram no problem playing any current game (Crysis 2 DX11 HiRes pack)thats with a £500 budget, end of the day its your cash spend the way you want.

Have you ever looked at laptops? Tey are hideously expensive compared to desktops, plus you cant (easily) build them yourself and save money that way.

Desktops are definitely cheaper and the best way to game. However, you can get a laptop of the same performance for around 1,000 or more less dollars. It is a truly overpriced laptop.

I'll always game on a desktop rather than a laptop. Gaming on laptops aren't worth it since you can't upgrade and if it breaks the parts gonna cost you so much more than regular desktop parts. Battery life too is mostly a joke so forget about gaming on the go.

I've never really understood why people would buy a laptop as their primary gaming machine.

However, with the advent of the Thunderbolt / Light Peak ports, in theory a person could have a low spec laptop for on the go use, which then plugs in to a dock housing a better mid-range GPU, hooked up to a monitor for desktop gaming.

(Again) in theory the person could simply upgrade the dock (or modules in the dock) when a new GPU.

I think that would make it more expensive if you think about the cost of the add-on device along with the laptop. I remember about an add-on device that houses a standard video card that outputs the video to a monitor. But that kills the portability advantage of having a laptop. In the end I'd rather spend all that moola in a desktop pc. I think some people who buy these gaming laptops just do it for the sake of having the latest tech in their hands and it also counts as a bling gadget like Ipad that you show-off to other people.

I agree - spending for a product or service is totally discretionary on the part of a consumer. For the example given, some who are not into cruises would think it's too outrageous to pay for such a vacation for two and would rather use the money to buy a computer (or an expensive car part that is not that essential at all) and vice versa.

A good friend of mine who loves cars refuses to buy an Ipad because he says it's "expensive", but went on to buy expensive mag wheels for his car even if he already has two sets complete with alloy rims. I would not call him stupid because that's what he wants.

plus that laptop is like a $1000 overpriced along with it's weak sauce GPU. you can get an Asus laptop with a 4 core Core i7 and a GTX 460M for $1000 cheaper.

But that dam extra screen is mad Hot. I can't wait till this becomes a more PRICE friendly feature in Gamer KB's.
