Killzone 3: Best Underplayed Shooter in 2011

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past couple of years then you know that Call of Duty and Battlefield are the supreme leaders within the first person shooter market, and with both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 coming out later this year, the hype for both of these titles has reached astronomical levels, and for good reason too.

The story is too old to be commented.

I played the KZ3 beta last year. Good stuff. It was good, but when your shooter, hell, when your GAME is released in the first quarter of the year, it's bound to be overshadowed.

Criminal2606d ago (Edited 2606d ago )

I played the beta also. Not all first quarter releases get overshadowed. As I remember, Street Fighter, LBP2, Mass Effect 2 came out in Q1 and fine.

iXenon2606d ago

Yeah, but you gotta understand, not many fighters, platformers and RPGs come out as often as shooters do in a year. Like someone said below, even Crysis 2 and Homefront are overshadowed.

Criminal2606d ago

Yeah, you're spot on. Shooters are flooding the market.

Pixel_Pusher2606d ago

Did anyone play Crysis 2 MP past a month or two? Nope.

guitarded772605d ago (Edited 2605d ago )

Crysis 2 and Homefront don't have s#!t on Killzone 3... some of the best online this gen. Only problem I had with KZ3 was no online co-op... WTF was that about?

BattleAxe2605d ago

Its a ghost town because the didn't include enough maps(especially for Operations Mode) or game modes. The single player campaign was meh.....the ending was a WTF?? moment, but in a bad way.

The game just isn't that good.

It lost the uniqueness KZ2 had in attempt to gain a wider audience, but that back fired. All the KZ2 loyalist were pissed off by KZ3 being unbalanced and resembling Call of Duty. The rest of the market which consist of mainly CoD players simply don't care about Killzone. Even Guerrilla Games themselves realized this and are now patching the requests fans of the series have been asking for since the first PS+ exclusive beta.

The reason why KZ3 is underplayed is because KZ2 > KZ3.

RedDead2606d ago

This is why I skipped it, Beta test = very close to final gameplay. That was it then, my favorite new shooter had already ditched it's own gameplay after just one sequel

newn4gguy2606d ago

Unbalanced? I don't get it. I thought the balancing was MUCH better in KZ3.

KZ2 is not better. The story in KZ3 was much more interesting.

BiggCMan2606d ago

Agreed, definitely. It's a mediocre game at best, with great graphics. The story was garbage, and an exact rip off of many Call of Duty story moments like the awful vehicle parts, the training in the beginning, and terrible ending. The multiplayer felt the same, just like Call of Duty.

Ravenor2606d ago

Nope, KZ3 is not a "great"'s okay but it's nothing special. Linear level design, some pretty lame stealth sections and the boss fights that were kinda laughable. The walking factory was just stupid, for as big as that thing was it was a pretty lackluster fight.

cyborg69712606d ago

Completly agree biggest let down of the year for me. This game should have just given us the maps for fourty bucks and kept it kz2.

HeavenlySnipes2606d ago

People trying to come out and call it 'mediocre'. We had a debate on this on the KZ forums, and we agreed that KZ3 is a good game, just that KZ2 was/is better.

If you never played KZ2, Kz3 will be a great game for people to pick up and enjoy.

Jdub895O2605d ago

same thing happened to Socom 4. Damn that game! The only tactical shooter i was looking forward too.

Ju2605d ago

Going by the disagrees here, I guess there are people debating, and then there are people who actually play the game.

The singleplayer was also pretty fun. KZ2 was dark and realistic but KZ3 was bright and just funner. It really is sad that it didn't do to well. Like every level was something different and it just was fun at all times.

Didn't try the multiplayer though.

Hitman07692606d ago

Hell yeah this game seriously had a ridiculous campaign and the online was very, very good. Even though they removed the awesome clan system which pissed me ofF!!!! I still loved the game immensely :)

Mister_V2606d ago

Same thing happened to Crysis 2!

Criminal2606d ago (Edited 2606d ago )

And Homefront.

I think Homefront is a good first effort. I hope they can build the solid base.

Mister_V2606d ago (Edited 2606d ago )

Homefront died before I even got the chance to get into it!

SwampCroc2606d ago

I had KZ3 and Homefront. I liked them both and played them for a couple of weeks until the issues/newer games ultimately caused me to get rid of them.

I really liked Homefront MP... something about it seemed real refreshing.. but even with all the updates my stats never tallied properly... I was like lvl 25... but my stats said I only had 6 kills... after hours and hours of gameplay..

KillerPwned2606d ago

Homefront was not a bad FPS at all but it is not a game that i would pay full $60 for. I really enjoyed the online for Homefront.

Ju2605d ago

Err, excuse me, but KZ and Homefront in one sentence is an insult. Homefront was just a shitty game. MP had some potential, but wth was that single player?

I really liked this game. The story improved over the second. I just felt the ending was a little rushed. I am not sure why but it felt things happened too quickly. Apart from this it was a stellar game.

consolez_FTW2606d ago

Exactly man, the game was money well spent and the game was stellar. When I'm on N4G, I feel like part of the minority that actually liked KZ3. Both KZ2 and KZ3 were great shooters.

MGRogue20172606d ago (Edited 2606d ago )

I bought & played it to hell on release day.. I enjoyed it, both SP & MP.. I loved it because it pulled me away from CoD for a little while.. well, for a good few months anyway.

I actually still pop it in for a quick go every once & a while.. like, whenever I feel like reminding myself of how powerful the PS3 really is. :)
