Blizzard’s Frank Pearce says Diablo III’s always-on internet requirement isn’t driven by piracy on the PC – because “if people want to pirate the game, they’re going to find ways to pirate the game whether we require an online connection or not.”
That excuse has got to be the biggest pile of bull shit I have ever heard!
^^^pretty much that and @ letros down below I've ran a wow server on my pc.... perhaps you should hit up this little site called google. wow cracked servers have been around forever.
Ok where the non-online version. Watch someone crack it and have an offline version on torrents.
well som1 will and thats what he saying lol.
Actually it's not that simple considering a huge part on Diablo 3 in processed online. Cracking a game is much easier then creating a mini-engine to process want is done on blizzards server end. Am not saying it won't happen but it will be much harder then simply making a crack to play offline.
Im gonna pirate this one.
Don't know much about pirating do you?
It will be designed with NPCs and scripts to be server side, similar to WoW. A "pirated" copy will have you alone in a world with absolutely nothing to do. Guess you don't know much about anything do you?
It's true, well said letros
i know the feeling. its amazing how paid customers get shafted by drms and piracy protection policies but when you get a pirated game, you just have the freedom to pop it in n play. this comes to mind
In this day and age I dont see it as a big deal. If blizzard designed diablo to be only online thats what it is end of story. Cant play games like gw,rift, wow and many other online rpg games offline so people need to calm down.
You know your comment would make sense if those MMORPG's (massively multiplayer ONLINE rpg's) were/had singleplayer campaign's. But they don't. Diablo 3 WILL require online for solo/1/singular/personal campaign. Fuck Feel sorry for those median income south african families
Why would u want to keep your solo campaign separate from the online? It made sense 10+ years ago when people had dial up and couldnt always stay connected etc but now it really doesnt. Like I said before if blizzard wants it all only online then thats their decision. If u dont have online obviously dont buy it if u do then it doesnt bother you.
@thehitman: That's not the point, I have both the internet connection and a fast enough computer to play this game. The online-only singleplayer though, will imo contribute MORE to piracy, as there will be a crack. Even if it doesnt, think of people with laptops? There ain't 3g everywhere (plus, fuck those rates). What about lan parties where you don't want to use or don't have internet (mp, but still)? Also whats wrong with providing options? What happened to the days when you could choose offline or online? Not everyone likes everything broadcasted. These are merely some thoughts.
why aren't people complaining that WoW needs to always be online??
wow is a strictly multiplayer game, that's why.
Because their idiots , wait till the release then they will realise why it was good for the game. Just an nostalgic sense of superiority because diablo 2 was offline. Blizzard want to push it as an online game , so the haters can cry more or go play something else. By all means pirate a sub par version ... whatever ... you can pirate WoW also but who wants to play on a crappy pirate server with hackers... This also stops cheaters from messing with items and other easy cheating that you could do on diablo 2. Day 1 buy for sure :)
If someone has an unstable internet connection, then I would think that the pirated offline version would be the superior version in that case, wouldn't you?
Would be nice , but they are trying to push it as an Online RPG to be intergrated with Battlenet 2.0. not a play it offline if you don't want to play online RPG.
COUGH COUGH Bullsh!t! COUGH
The reason is because of people tampering with the game to get high level items/gold and then sell them to people. You know chinese goldfarmers. They will probably add a non-online mode that lets you play the game but you are not allowed to sell items.
"they’re going to find ways to pirate the game whether we require an online connection or not" LOLOLOL But anyway, no. The true reason it has to be always online is because they (Activision) want to bleed it dry financially with that in-game real money item purchase stuff; and for that to be secure it has to store inventories server-side (or people would hack them client-side and break the economy). Simply put anyway.
that's good, because it's gonna cause more piracy than it stops.
