Why I believe the Devil May Cry Reboot will be a Blemish on the Franchise

I will judge a finished game, not a negative hype train based on a character design.

Kind of takes me back to the reaction of Wind Waker, in many ways.

but yeah i'm actually gonna agree with you, not gonna judge it till i get my hands on it. even though NT's gameplay in Enslaved and Heavenly Sword was pretty stale, you know what they say... THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM!... at least i really hope so haha

I cannot stand that everyone hates this game and it isn't even out yet. If it comes out and is horrible then okay that sucks...but what if it doesn't suck? You can't always tell a great game by trailers. I was so pumped for Alpha Protocol but then it was pretty mediocre...you never know what will happen.

If you think it's all about character design then you missed the point entirely. Also Devil my Cry 2 is a prime example of "If it's not broke don't fix it" Point proven when they went back to the drawing board on DMC3. Plus the other factor, I could accept this story if the main character didn't carry the name of the Iconic Dante.

It's like reading a series of good books on a character you love only to see him turn into something that he never was I.E a British punk Rocker. If they were going to this they should have just said " this is a new DMC with a New character, and story" But instead they wanted to Use the name "Dante" to guarantee sales.

The game might be good, but the story sounds like trash. Also they are basically telling fans not to get attached to main character anymore. See it like this, imagine if Nintendo did a make over of Mario, with him looking like Edward from twilight, and they say he's not a plumber he's an assassin. Also instead of going after Bowser he's going after a Drug kingpin named "big B". Also princess peach is a prostitute who sells mushrooms on the side, and the kingdom is on Jersey Shore. BTW Mario's gay and his brother lugi died from a drug overdose that Big B sold him. You'd be pissed!.

who said it's just the character redesign? It is:

1) character redesign
2) personality redesign
3) combat redesign
4) story redesign
5) presentation redesign
6) ignoring fans of DMC who have been playing it since dmc 1 days
7) self loving egotistical devs who redesign one of the best hack and slash characters after himself
8) ignorant devs who refuse to respect the fanbase who have supported the franchise for more than 10 years
9) drop in frame from 60-30fps

This is a reason why many DMC fans are outraged. It's like taking what made something really cool and stripping it all away and saying you have the same product when everyone around you knows you don't.

Not saying it is going to be a badgame, I am saying with the amount of changes they have made, they could have just made this a new IP. With everything hey have done where the only thing which has remained is the name "Dante" and "DMC", why bother even calling it DMC? they should have just gone that extra mile and named it "Ninja Theory May Cry" and names the character "Tameem" or whatever the dudes name is.

@fei-hung: exactly. Unfortunately, those who complain about the looks happen to be the loudest and the first to complain. That's why they're targeted. Somehow supporters lump all fans together and think that all fans are superficial jerks who only care about the hair. They just can't see that the problem is way beyond the character design.

There're problems with the game, I complain about it. All of those problems are crucial. I will not shut up until i see a decent gameplay video (yes, the last one failed in every standard of a DMC game) or a decent information about the game. If it's not good so far (i.e. after the 3rd try), what makes you think that it will be good when it's released considering the NT history of making games? Magic?

The story was changed too.

Not only will he look different, he will act, speak and be nothing like the Dante we know.

The guy literally said he doesn't care what the fans think and that Dante wasn't cool anymore. So he was designed him after his douchebag smoker self.

I never got past the second one. I loved the first one to death, but the second one just ruined it for me. Tried playing the third one for the hell of it but it just wasn't even close to being as enjoyable for me as the first and I only got an our or so in. I lost interest after that.

But DMC is the brain child of Shinji Mikami and was directed by Hideki Kamiya the same guys who created Bayonetta.

There are parts of the series that wasn't bad such as 1 and 3. Then you get the so-so 4 and the ugh... well... horrible 2 and well we have the reboot ;_;

Some people will just never understand that DMC combat system has the complexity of one found in fighting games which is the main reason why fans are upset NT is handling the game. There are tournaments where players show off their skills on YouTube for crying out loud. They're trying hard to make a game that looks like DMC on the surface (character design aside) instead of making an action game that's better than Bayonetta/DMC3 and they're failing at that. People want fans to give this a chance just because of the name and I'm not having that. People say the series needed a reboot because of the story. Riddle me this can you name one hardcore action game series that has a consistent storyline? GOW is a cool hack n slash, but no one is going to compare that to DMC, Bayonetta or NG. At the end of the day fans want a complex combat system with fast paced action, and Capcom/NT are trying to move away from that.

Platinum Games will keep me busy while I wait for a true DMC sequel. If I have to wait another decade for Capcom to deliver a DMC that's truly an evolution of DMC3 then so be it. There's no way I'm accepting this knockoff.

It's not a knock on anyone who isn't into fighting games, actions games, or JRPGs. By all means play what you like I mean they're just video games, but please don't try to judge us fans unless you know where we're coming from.

I know im gonna get flamed for this but in the video you kept bringing up story and how its not gonna be the same...

Its a reimagining of the franchise yes a lot of things are getting changed and i know accepting change is hard but when it comes to story ninja theory is hands down one of the best at story telling so if anything that should be the last thing you worry about i can guarantee in terms of story this will be the best dmc story to date

on the other hand theres gameplay now that looks good from what has been seen thus far but we wont truly know until we get our hands on it

as for character design if thats gonna stop you from enjoying a good game then your just being immature

you forgot about the downgrade of frame-rate from godly 60fps to piss poor 30fps and probably not even locked considering how sluggish Enslaved and Heavenly Sword were. On top of that? The god awful screen tear. =/

NT shouldn't be making fast paced games with such pissant skills. They tend to focus too much on the cosmetic side... Enslaved looked great but it ran like trash and the overall style of the game wasn't that garish with the main character looking like Fred Flinstone (I bet this is why the game flopped even though it had good reception from reviewers). And now they are ruining DMC with their poor sense of style and average skills. I mean, even emos and scene kids look better dressed than that mentally unstable guy that thinks that he is Dante... (in the first trailer he was in a mental hospital or something right?)

I'm telling you, I don't mind the fact that DMC is a reboot, I just don't like the direction they are taking it. They made Dante look like a meth addict, they changed the atmosphere to a more serious one and what about that pretentious approach for story-telling. "Their truth is a lie. The city is an illusion. Who are you? I am Dante!".

i think the new story sounds amazing. I personally feel gamers like you who bash something before its out, in games or in anything else, are actually bad for the industry. Its a reboot, that means a new direction. thats the point of a Reboot lol. everyone is entitled to their opinion but when its based off something you havent even experienced and are basing it off looks, that just makes you seem like a biased fanboy and that is a HUGE negative. grow up a bit, be open minded. Ninja theory is one of the best storytellers around. DMC story and acting is pretty ridiculous, ninja theory is giving it a MAJOR rehaul that is more mature and adult. thank god. it needs it. gamers are growing up and DMC doesnt exactly scream, "take me seriously". they were just embarrassing to play. dmc 1 was the best and i cant wait for the reboot

sometimes im embarrassed to be associated with gamers because so many of them represent themselves as immature, arrogant and just annoying. they are judgmental and really come off like developers owe them something. they dont owe you anything. theres millions of gamers who dont live in the past who you dont speak for. also theres always new gamers emerging everyday who arent stuck in the old days. Im totally open minded to this new direction because i respect creative minds. Heavenly sword had awesome epic combat and story, enslaved had emotional range that no other game had. Take that and inject it to DMC and thats a serious gift. I worked for gamestop years ago and it turned me off to gamers, i had to bail because I saw how gamers really are and it was awful. man i feel for developers bigtime. dont be discouraged ninja theory! some of us adult gamers respect and need you to fuse some maturity into the industry
