GameSpot Gives 9/10 to Assassin's Creed: PS3's Better Frame-rate & Xbox 360's Better Lighting

Assassin's Creed is a beautiful and exciting experience that you'll remember for years to come.

"There are few differences between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. PS3 owners are blessed with a slightly more solid frame rate, although the 360 version features a little more contrast in the lighting, so it's pretty much a wash. But regardless of which platform you go with, you'll have an amazing and unforgettable game. Assassin's Creed is the kind of game you tell your friends about, and one that should be in your collection. "

Wow, I can't believe I'm saying this but GameSpot FTW!
7.7 from IGN, 9 from GameSpot, 7 from 1UP, 9.5 from Game Informer. Mixed reactions = Checked.

Maldread6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

Agree with that hehe. Very strange.

Agree with Tommie too, wonder which one is right though.Perhaps Gamespot is trying to make up for the Ratchet reviews, but i would advise everyone to at least try it for yourselves with such mixed reviews and opinions about the fps, so that we can get a more general idea of how it is.

I would take framerate over lighting anyday though, since it`s more important to the gameplay.

MK_Red6422d ago

I don't think this is making up for Ratchet case because AC is a multi title. Uncharted is the game that GS could use to make up for Ratchet review.
My trusted review sites are GameInformer, IGN and GameTrailers. They gave AC 9.5, 7.7 and 9.1. The sites I don't trust are GameSpot, 1UP and GameSpy. They gave AC 9, 7 and 7...
Don't remember this kind of mixed reactions... ever.

Ju6422d ago

What now ?

IGN: PS3 has frame rate issue which go as far as having an impact of game play
GS: PS3 has more stable frame rate.

Confused...

JsonHenry6422d ago

My buddy back home told me the game is cool for the first half, then the last half of the game you wish you never bought it.

And NO replay value at all.

Again, this is not me, but someone else saying it. I think the game looks fun. Maybe a rent. Certainly not a buy since there is no multiplayer.

Maldread6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

Yeah Uncharted seems the more obvious choice if they want to "redeem" themselves, but i find it strange that a PS3 game would have a better fps game than a 360 game, with the current situation of multiplatform games. Maybe that`s why Gamespot gives it to a multiplatform game now, so the can show PS3 some love for once (since they always point out that with the PS3 versions of games is lacking) ;)

Not trying to start a conspiracy story here though hehe, just meant it as a funny remark ;)

It would be great for the PS3 to get a "better" multiplatform version of a game at the same time as the 360 version for once, but i trust IGN usually, so i don`t know which could have the most stable fps

JsonHenry6422d ago

Also, the one thing that seems to be coming out is that the 360 version looks a little better and does not have all the weird texture issues.

Danja6422d ago

I know..I thoughtthe PS3 had framerate probs...ne ways...

Gamespot is still on my most hated list....and the thing is..they don't have a choice but to give UNCHARTED good score...sucks to be them...

Gamespot-equals-EGM6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

Why are you being such fanboy to a particular game? That makes no sense, you have a obsession with Jade Raymond or something?

So you only listen to reviews that score AC high and you discredit ones that score AC below 8 (which is a lot of reviews)? I'm sorry but that's just plain retarded.

MK_Red6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

@ Maldread:
Good point my friend. It may indeed be the case.

@ Gamespot-equals-EGM:
Do you know those people who are crazy about a system or game and worship it? Halo 3 fans? MGS fans? FF fans? PS3 fans? 360 fans?
I'm like them on Assassin's Creed. I've been following before ever knowing it about Jade Raymond. Also I like her as a game developer. My obsession with AC comes from the great technical achievements that devs have gone for (and mostly succeded IMO). Plus, AC has been my most anticipated game of 2007 after Burnout Paradise was delayed to 2008.

EDIT: @ ATLRoAcH
Completely agreed. The game is a really new and amazing game. Thanks for the great commen. AC is unique indeed.
Bubbles for you :)

ATLRoAcH6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

Assassin's Creed is just my type of game. And considering the mixed reviews I'd say that if its your type of game you will like it.I usually roll with gametrailers and they gave it a pretty good score.I want this game for the open-world, free-roaming gameplay more than anything and they all say thats the best part of the game so I'll be picking up my pre-order tomorrow along with COD:4.

(edit)@ MK_Red

You and me both.Assassin's Creed just offers a lot of things no other game is offering this year.I pre-ordered the limited edition months ago and called my gamestop and they're not going to have it until tomorrow.I've been waiting on this game so long I can't give up on it now.The mixed reviews tell me its either a good game or a great game.I comfortable with mid sevens being the low and tens being the high.I like Jade Raymond and all but I like this game because of how unique it is.

(re-edit) @ MK_Red

Bubble for you to my friend.Like you need it.lol.I think nine is the most bubbles you can get but oh well its the thought that counts.

lonestarmt6422d ago

I'm not knocking AC, I think its going to be good, and I"m buying it tommorrow, but remember when they bashed Rachet for having to much variety?? well and AC of late has been getting hit for beeing to repative (DW anyone?? jj I love those games) so maybe this game is right up gamespots ally?? lol

Gamespot-equals-EGM6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

How can you be such a strong supporter of a game you haven't even played? I can understand Halo 3 fans or MGS4 fans b/c they're sequels in long-running franchises but AC is the first in the series. A person can't tell much about gameplay, pacing or other elements by just watching movies.

EDIT: @lonestar (above): good one

ShiftyLookingCow6422d ago

wow this is crazy, IGN and Gamespot directly contradict each other. well time to read the review myself. Good find.

skagrerrrr6422d ago

I'm going to buy the game when it comes out then

darkwing6422d ago

didn't IGN said the PS3 had frame rate problems @_@ and weren't these guys the same ones who gave 7.5 to Ratchet, must be trying make up for that one

ruibing6422d ago

Yeah, I know I am confused. Maybe this is like PES where your HDTV can alter the performance or maybe those PS3 tweaks really do work and the IGN people didn't do them.

I guess we'll never know until we buy them ourselves and see whether there is a noticeable difference.

SlappyMcTaint6422d ago

I'll take a better framerate than overbloom lighting and contrast anyday. PS3 FTmfW

Overbloomy contrast blowout seems to be an xbox staple...

hollabox6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

I do think it is weird, I do wonder if Gamespot made a typo. Anyways, based on videos and screen shots I say the 360 version looks better. I might give this game a try later after Christmas with all the games coming out I want have time to play until then.

Tommie6422d ago

IGN: Xbox 360 better framerate then PS3
Gamespot: PS3 better framerate then Xbox 360

Now who's right or wrong here?

MK_Red6422d ago

Agreed, something is really REALLY wrong here. Either site reviewers are crazy or the game act differently for each reviewer...

Douchebaggery6422d ago (Edited 6422d ago )

I play PC games on a mid range PC and I'm use to a bad framerate so now whenever I play a console game I barely notice slowdowns unless they're really bad.

FYI almost every major multi-platform game reviews from IGN are written by Hilary Goldstein the top dog of the IGN x360 team, I'm not into conspiracy theories but having listened to their podcast and heard him ridicule the PS3 many time, it's reasonable to ask if there might some unconscious bias on his part.

Gamespot-equals-EGM6422d ago

Holy sh!t, you people are being such b!tches. IGN's main complaint with the game wasn't the framerates. IGN scored the game 'low' (aka below 8) because IGN thought AC's 12-15 hours of gameplay had too much minutia and tedious stuff in it.

Assassin's Creed: The Argument For a Total Franchise Reboot

Assassin's Creed has been hard done by in the past several years despite its success, and as messy as it could be, it might be time for a reboot.

They already did that in 2017 with origins. I don’t think a reboot is on the cards when Ubisoft is about to go down under lol

I hope the splinter cell remake sees the light of day before the company closes

Inverno103d ago

I doubt they'll be closing, but they are primed to be eaten up by a bigger comp. Also 2017 was nearly a decade ago, it could use another reboot or rather it should just be retired.

RaidenBlack102d ago

Origins was the reboot.
But that also alienated the original AC lovers, abit. Not everybody adores the perma-change of the IP to be vast RPGs.
What I instead propose is, alternate between Valhalla/Shadows type AC RPGs and Mirage/ACII like non-RPG releases.

PrecursorOrb103d ago

It’d be nice if they made parkour feel new

monkey602103d ago

Put the series to bed, It's tired! Revisit your stagnant properties.

Profchaos102d ago

What do you do when you've already milked everything dry

Noskypeno102d ago

What is old might feel new again. A new splinter cell with semi open levels but still having a linear structure (not just one giant open world) that have multiple paths to complete the objective but still have stealth be the main priority would feel fresh, especially with modern graphics and military gadgets .

FinalFantasyFanatic102d ago

I agree, from anecdotal evidence, all franchises eventually stagnate, it might be a good time to start something new.

PRIMORDUS102d ago

"it might be time for a reboot." No it might be time to put this shit to rest for a few yrs. A good 4-5 then come back.

Profchaos102d ago

Total franchise reboot. This ac game is basically the hail Mary to keep Ubisoft alive if this fails the share price will be so low they will be forced to sell and likely absorbed into another org as the Ubisoft name carries almost no weight.

Don't get me wrong they will end up selling after ac regardless but it will be the difference of getting the deal they want vs the deal they don't

A Wild West Setting Doesn't Seem Too Bad For Assassin's Creed

With many wondering what route the franchise should take next, Assassin's Creed should finally visit the Wild West era.

Tell me how that's going to be significantly different than colonial America. AC is about showcasing different cultures throughout history. They already did Native Americans in AC3, so then just cowboys, outlaws, ranchers, etc? Kinda feel like there's already a game out there that does that really freaking well. Hmmm, maybe the one in the thumbnail?
