Revamped PlayStation Home: First official screens, details

CVG: Sony's released the first screenshots and details on the revamped PlayStation Home we heard about this morning.

Arriving this autumn, the new core experience for PlayStation Home features a "Hub and districts" design that will help you find games, people and places that fit your favourite game genres, says Sony.

The design offers a new Hub that integrates games, quests, community events and user-generated content, while providing PS3 owners with additional navigation, shopping, socialisation and entertainment options.

My only question is will it still be beta status? Other than that I am looking forward to it. Can't wait. BTW do you guys know you can do parties in Home and play disc and PSN games together? Home is getting better and better.

I can't see the "beta" tag being scratched off soon. They're always evolving and adding to home, they create stuff, they add features, they remove stuff, they remove features, etc. see where I'm going, though it's nice to see they're working to improve.

Edit:
Also, would be nice to know if this revamp will be for all regions or just US (usually).

Edit 2:
I read on yourplaystationhome.com, thich is always a reliable soure when it comes about home, and the site admin said it's US only :\

having a Beta status is good .. because u can add or remove big things without much hassle

bruddahmanmatt4424d ago (Edited 4424d ago )

Umm...no. When it gets to the point it has come to with Home, it becomes what's known as a "perpetual beta". Slapping "beta" onto something and using the tag as an excuse for a constantly unfinished product is lazy. I realize that the ideas and goals behind Home are massive and constantly changing at an ever-quickening pace, but Sony needs to drop the "beta" tag at this point. It's lazy and annoying when developers hide behind a simple word like that. Home hasn't been a beta in the traditional sense for quite some time.

As for the update, it's looking quite good if you ask me. I don't care what the haters say, Home is a fun and entertaining break from traditional gaming.

Pl4sm44424d ago

@bruddahmanmatt if it wasnt a beta .. this big graphical update could not be possible and new spaces of games would not be free .. u would have to pay for them ..

bruddahmanmatt4424d ago

What are you talking about? While a good chunk of Home is available for free Sony still charges for all sorts of content. How does your flimsy excuse explain that one away? Like I said, Home falls into the category of "perpetual beta". Go and look it up.

I don't know what your problem is. It is just a name, a tag. If they stopped calling it a beta and just kept updating it then what would be different? NOTHING. The service is free. Heck I forget its there sometimes. Sure you can pay for stuff but you don't have to to enjoy the service.

Awesome, Home just keeps getting better and better!

BrightFalls764424d ago

Please Sony, just stop beating this dead horse.

Peaceful_Jelly4424d ago (Edited 4424d ago )

If you log-in to Home right now you'll see that it's full of people...

BrightFalls764424d ago

Its always full but of what? I mean there is little going on, would rather be playing an actual video game then walk around in a virtual advertisements.

mindedone4424d ago

It's full of people doing EXACTLY what PS Home was designed for, that is, conversing with one another about a range of topics.

-Alpha4424d ago (Edited 4424d ago )

What do you mean "full of what"?

It's full of people, he just told you.

kreate4424d ago

That's what you would do but not everyone else has the same opinion as you. You know... people are different... don't know if u noticed that.

You say beating a dead horse yet if you got to home is has a lot of people, more reason for sony to make it better.

jriquelme_paraguay4424d ago (Edited 4424d ago )

you fail so hard
i dont use Home, but there is millions of people there

Nitrowolf24424d ago

"Its always full but of what?"

weel if you go in right now there's Dead Island Games.Sodium 2 and a bunch of other games are there

blackburn104424d ago (Edited 4424d ago )

Home has 23 million people using it last count. I am not sure how it is that the fact that people use Home confuses people so. If you don't like it fine but let the people who do use it use it. The Casino was full of people last I checked. Call me crazy but I am not sure how 23 million users translates to Home being a failure. It like how people keep saying PSP is a failure but it still sells today with 72 million sold and counting. @ OllieBoy Really? what would have you done differently? @ Ares90 that's a horrible idea. My avatar is beautiful the way she is. Who wants to look like a ballon headed freak.

I'm hoping it delivers this time. Home is a good idea, but poorly executed.

mcstorm4424d ago

Ive never liked home but i see them using home as the front end of the next console as the consoles get more and more internet based.
