OXCGN’s Exclusive Interview With The Creator of The Stanley Parable

OXCGN:

"Every now and again, a dark horse developer comes out with something so strangely unique and refreshing that we can’t help but give them attention.

"Cue The Stanley Parable, yet another Half-Life 2 modification… but only superficialities speak of it being “yet another HL2 mod.”

"The Stanley Parable stars Stanley, worker number 427 and absolute nobody, as he progresses through his ‘parable’, narrated by a mysterious entity known only as “The Narrator.”

"It’s a fascinating, rejuvenating story that twists the traditional ties of video game narrative.

"OXCGN got an exclusive interview with the creator, Davey Wreden, and answered some interesting questions."

Always good to find ways to recycle Half Life with new creative mods! I just wish consoles could have the same sort of user generated content!!

It is good when innovative ideas actually gain popularity as it should show big devs and publishers that such thinking can be rewarded. I wonder: is it only the PC crowd that would adopt, or if such things were done on consoles, would it be more risky?

I think developers would do such things on consoles, IF they were allowed to by the publishing houses that control their funding . .

However, they would rather travel down the road of the 'known road', than try something new and uncertain.

As they, the Publishing houses, are pushed by shareholders to turn almost every game outing to turn profits, and NOT take risks.

Which is a real shame, as there's some great ideas being thrown around developers as to what would be great on the consoles.

I only seen walktrough (and endings)To lazy to find my HL2 :).

It is pretty interesting concept,..You can really see the influence of 1984,.. and It is quite important theme, especially for the times we are living in,..
Script and narration and are totally professional,.. You almost feel unease the entire time,.. Really great job.

15 games on FIFTEEN pages? That's a NO from me.

Superliminal
Antichamber
Manifold Garden
Portal & Portal 2
The Stanley Parable
Monument Valley
Gorogoa
Thumper
Inscryption
Q.U.B.E. 2
Darq
Quantum Break
Perspective
Inside
The Swapper

IamTylerDurden1782d ago (Edited 782d ago )

I think Inscryption is the best game on that list. PT and Returnal i would offer. Returnal deserves a spot over some of the listed games. Especially after chapter 3. Maybe even Alice MR? Death Stranding? Kojima all together. To much smaller degree Dead Space. I'm spitballing.

I didn't play Thumper enough to see beyond the visual spectacle. Curious choice.

I'd add FEAR and RE7 (when Ethan starts getting visions, especially in the boat) to that list.

Edit: and Here They Lie

What no Eternal Darkness on the list?
