The top 25 best (and worst) SNES box art of all time

Destructoid: Before the HD-era, box art served as both an introduction and an expansion to a game's world. Like a great movie poster or album cover, great box art has the power to encapsulate and influence your views of the product it's promoting.

Despite Nintendo trying their best to suffocate Super Nintendo covers with all sorts of ugly logos and formatting standards, some gems were still made. Along with 25 of the very best, I will show you 25 of the very worst.

Continue forth for some amazing (and some amazingly bad) SNES box art.

The guy who created the Phalanx one was on some seriously strong drugs at the time, but the guy who approved it was on even stronger ones.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

I want a full on 3d remake but I suppose HD2D is fine.

Snookies1218d ago

So many people want HD2D, but I agree 100%. Chrono Trigger is in my top 3 of all-time. I want to see what this could be like re-imagined in full 3D. The sprites look good enough in the original, in my opinion. What would be amazing, is if they just went for both haha. Give us the HD2D to tide us over while they work on the full remake.

I'd imagine it would be something like... chrono cross

goken17d ago

I am hoping a modern AAA return…

Chard17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

I'm still skeptical of HD-2D, and still want them to fix remaining foibles in the current Steam version. At any rate I've been seeing online that this rumour has been debunked

Knightofelemia17d ago

I would jump for a remake of Chrono Trigger then hopefully a remake of Chrono Cross. I wish Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy also got a remake or a remaster.

jznrpg16d ago

Yes to Xenogears and Xenosaga!

jznrpg17d ago

I am surprised it hasn’t been done already. It’s widely considered as one of the best RPGs all time. I’ll take it for sure. I want a Vagrant Story remake as well
