Konami Curious if Japan Wants the PS3

The Konami booth had a MGS4 trailer and had folks fill out a questionnaire to receive a Metal Gear book The Konami questionnaire featured very basic questions: What's your gender? How old are you? Where do you live? What consoles do you own? Blah, blah, blah. One question did jump right out at me. Here's Q2. in English:

This is a question for those who do not own the PLAYSTATION 3. Do you have plans to purchase it? Why is that?

Sonarus, you're talking to someone that owns a PS3, and a PS3 alone (at least atm).

Anyway, if it were to go 360, it wouldn't be STRICTLY for Japan. It would be for Japan, AND..yes, AAAAAAAAAND EU and the US.
So although sales in Japan may not be superb, they will be sales nonetheless, and the rest will come from the US and EU.

Also, there's no way Konami's gonna water this thing down for the Wii.
That'd be the ultimate *****-slap to any gamer.

bringing mgs4 to the 360 wouldnt be to target japanese 360 owners but to target EU and NA 360 owners. If this was the real reason behind the questionaire wouldnt they have asked gamers the same question at the e for all convention???? jst a thought. Asking japanese gamers would you buy mgs4 on the ps3 and then assuming if not the ps3 then the japanese would buy it on the 360 isnt really likely. They are simply trying to measure the impact their game has on the system and measure how much of a system seller mgs4 really is.

Ps3's BD drive is slower than sh!t and needs UNCOMPRESSED data to make up for slower reading speeds. Mass Effect fit easily on DVD9 anything said to the contrary IS JUST PLAIN IGNORANCE.

Go ahead and dream about a 360 version. It could come out but a port of the PS3 version will look nothing like the PS3 version. The PS3 version will be huge and look great. To fit it on the tiny DVD will mean lots of compression and either dump lots of the game or put it on three DVDs. If you love MGS so much then buy a PS3 and play the real version Kojima is making.

They want to find out how many people at the booth own/dont own ps3s, and which will buy a ps3, so that they can use that ratio to compare to the general population that owns a ps3 in japan to ultimatly have a rough estimate of how many copies they will sell in that region. IMO

On one hand the game is possible to 'run' on the 360 however the game apparently needs a lot of space...So I think the problem for Kojima is one hand the 360 is the highest selling console and the most sold in comparison the to the PS3 then on the other hand the PS3 blu-ray allows for more space.

I think the reason for this questionnaire is that if you recall quite a while back Kojima said this game is costing a lot of money and to get any return they would have to sell a million or more copies I think it was...Perhaps he is trying to make sure that more people buy the console in order to sell more of the game?

I still don't think MGS4 will appear on the 360 because Kojima needing blu-ray for what he is trying to accomplish.

mgs4 is ps3's greatest system seller. Its a proven franchise that has been known to sell a lot. MGs2 sold about 9 million and i expect similar sales for mgs4 so that means about 3million more ps3's will be sold for mgs4 and it could happen. MGS4 is that game even if it did end up on the 360 if there is no mention of 360 version for a good 6 months thats all is necessary. I know ppl that wud sell their leg for mgs4 myself included.
MGS3 did not have as much hype as mgs2 and its ratings werent as good. Also MGS2 dropped fairly early in the ps2's lifetime sort of the way mgs4 will drop on ps3 but slightly later. MGS2 helped sell a lot of ps2's

The PS3 sold 20,000 units yesterday in Japan... I somehow feel this is going to be a good week for Sony. I say 60,000 ps3's sold this week. I think Japan's PS3 sales will be looking alright come the end of the year.

MGS4 has 5million units sold worldwide in the bag with ease. I believe it will be the best selling mgs of the series if advertised and hyped enough. All it needs are excellent reviews and its good to go. sony has some heavy hitting exclusives dropping 2008 killzone 2 gran turismo, white knight story and mgs4 is the mother of them all. if sony is smart they will pay wateva konami demands and keep this exclusive. They are already building up their line up and they already poised to have more exclusives at least by 2008. 3rd part exclusives are a popping up less so it all depends on 1st part exclusives. msoft also needs to wrk hard to secure mass effect as an exclusive if sumhow mass effect 2 ends up on ps3 it would be a blow to them. Bioshock is also hitting ps3 but it hits a little too late. sony needs to work harder with 3rd parties and stop game delays as well. it really hurts their sales

The Japanese market is so very different to anywhere else in the world. The games are so very different, so far alot of the games that cater to their tastes has been out on the Wii.

One of the big sellers of the summer was a Virtual Summer Holiday, there is not alot out on the PS3 at the moment that appeal greatly to the mass market in Japan.

IMO the PS3 will do just fine in Japan, yes it has not done aswell as projected, but the Wii has blown every console ever out the water. Aswell the media has taken delight in pointing out that the consoles were released at the same time.

Once the big guns have been released (MGS 4, Final Fantasy XIII and White Knight) Japan will be in love with Sony all over again. Even NA will start to warm again once the titles come out that show what the PS3 is capable of.

Who posted this non news anyway? Has the jackass even done a questionare before? Sony's own surveys that were emailed out (I did two of them so far), asked if I was buying, planned to buy, or owned their systems. It's nothing odd, as the posting of this story is falsly trying to create some impression that Konami's trying to gauge whether or not to support PS3.

Developers should know by now... the PS3 is one of those consoles that sells only when there is a price drop. which explains why Sony had to drop the price so many times. Yes, sure the PS3 sold well after the $400 SKU... just like when Sony dropped the price by $100. how long did it take for sells to sink again? Unless Sony brings the games.. like Metal Gear... the same will happen... and yeah keep saying, "uncharted drakes fortune"... that's not everyone's cup of tea... Sony needs to bring Metal Gear and Final fantasy now... hell.. I would even buy a PS3 myself. The xbox 360 will now get some massive JRPG games.. and the rest of the world will get Mass Effect and possibly a price drop... What held the PS3 back earlier this year....was price and games...now the price is right and the games are flowing hard...and it only took a year. I predict that MGS4 will sale more copies than Halo 3 in the first week....and it will average around 9.5 in scoring.

Wait, let me turn off some braincells so I can think like you. Uncharted, which is basically a marriage between Indiana Jones, Gears of War, and Tomb Raider won't appeal to everyone, but Mass Effect, with it's conversation trees and complicated AI teamate order giving /item equipping is?!
The PS3 is somehow in trouble if the 360 gets Metal Gear Solid 4, yet Mass Effect, which is now owned and controlled by EA is in no danger of going multiplatform, thus hurting the 360? How about Bioshock, which may very well be hitting PS3? Bizarre Creations no longer making PGR games? Gears of War only being exclusive to 360 for the first two games? Bungie going independant? M$ having NO internal development teams outside of Rare (Nintendo's still laughing as they count their 375 million), Turn 10 (one trick pony), and Lionhead studios (good for one game per gen)?
Yeah, PS3 has had a tough time up until recently, but it's only going to get better and better for them. M$ on the otherhand has come out of the gate strong as hell, but is now asleep at the wheel and running out of gas, for their lack of foresight. Not locking any of the big developers down is going to hurt them far badly than PS3 possibly having to share one game months, to a year when it'll be old news. Of course by then you'll have already jumped on the PS3 bandwagon.

There are many reasons why a company would conduct a survey like this. Perhaps they are simply doing their bit to promote the PS3. After all, if you go around asking if people are going to buy it, then those people may take another look, and now that the price has dropped and there are alternative colours available, they might then purchase.

I think I am safe in saying that MGS4 is a PS3 exclusive and will not appear on the 360, as the developers have said so time and again. Hideo has also stated that this is his last MGS game, so a port after the launch does not seem likely.

Of course, Konami may be multiplatform after that who knows?

How has this turned into a confirmation of anything other than Konami handing out a survey which publishers and consoles like the 360 and PS3 do already? Am I the only one whose come across such things?

On the Xbox website where you can edit your profile once you have registered your console, it asks whether or not you have a PS3..a PSP..a Wii, a DS and so on. Vice versa for when you register any console and I've seen other developers like Konami hand out similar surveys.

But to create an explosion of doubt and hysteria over a survey in Japan, asking gamers there if they're interested in a PS3 is like asking a teenager if he's interested in sex. This survey came out with the Metal Gear book; who do you think bought that? Those interested in the Xbox 360 ? PS3 owners or those interested in the console? Those interested in the Wii?

So tell me what you think the poll results will be then.

360 sales in Japan are doing fine if not better than ps3. If they keep it constant, mgs4 is going to 360 because that's the whole reason for this poll, no matter how tight konami and sony are. 360 gamers should not expect to get mgs4, just like sony gamers should not expect mass effect. You buy consoles for the games you like. If you like mgs4 get a ps3. you like mass effect get a 360; but don't sit here and downplay a game even if you don't like the console it's own or the company who makes the console. PS3 is not on my must buy list right now cuz I can play my neighbors just like he hasn't bought a 360 cuz he can game with me. I don't see why it is that any time someone says anything, we have a bunch of morons who jump to the most ridiculous conclusions. If someone posted an article about a dream they had where they saw a cloud that kind of looked like master chief holding a 6axis controller, we'd have a hundred posts about how that must mean Halo is making its way onto the playstation.

The article is stupid, it's a completely reasonable question to ask, i've seen similar questions on tons of polls.

Oh and in response to the PS fan boys talking about how it would bomb in japan...then explain how a game like halo...which nobody in japan cared about before suddenly boosts sales of 360s over PS3s... Now, if xbox were to acquire a franchise that is already hugely successful there, i think it's pretty likely you'd see an even larger spike in console sales, and everyone that has the console would get that game.
