As a British gamer, I grew up with Manic Miner and Monty on the run and Superfrog and other Amiga platformers and then Megadrive platformers based on Disney characters. The British studios were very much doing their own thing when Mario was at his birth. Even on the N64 British studio Rare arguably came up with the best one, Banjo Kazooie (although DK64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day have a lot of fans too). Then Sega came up the great Jet Set Radio (the Xbox game Jet Set Radio Future was more fun as a platformer). So whilst I like Crash Bandicoot and Metroid Prime a lot, I think that Sega's non-Sonic games and those early British studios are too often overlooked.
