Dark Souls: More Difficult Than the First? (Hooked Gamers)

HG writes: "Difficulty is nothing new to the veterans of gaming. But the novice youngsters? Nah, they know very little of what it means to complete a hard game. These days the toughest challenge most gamers will face is that of the multiplayer in Call of Duty. The young guns know nothing of the days of games like Contra, Mega Man, or Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts. Those games tested your sanity, not just your trigger finger. Demon's Souls was one of those games, but will Dark Souls take it to a new level?"

There's no question here as the devs already said that it's going to be

More difficult? Yes please! Demon's Soul's was tough but not as tough as people say. Im really looking forward to a bigger challenge in Dark Souls.

The thing that made Demon's Souls not-really-as-hard-as-the-revi ews-made-it-out-to-be is the fact that almost every single boss in the game is either piss easy or can be glitched. I'm sure I'm not the only guy who got Flamelurker stuck behind that ribcage, who read a magazine while letting the False King die from poison, and who killed the first Maneater with arrows. The sequel could be extremely difficult if they make each boss fight more of a straight-up contest.

If you play it like a noob and not like a man what did u exspect of course u can make it easy but thats kind of cheap imo.

zerocrossing3080d ago

I got Flamelurker stuck behind that ribcage, but I didn't think of those other tactics lol. I did beat every boss on my own even the piercing one but that's because I didn't realise you could get help from that knight locked in the dungeon and I refused to get help from White phantoms during my 1st play through lol.

But yeah I agree making the boss fights more a straight-up contest will increase the difficulty a good bit, all in all, Im really looking forward to Dark Souls =)

"The Piercing One!?" How dare you sully the hallowed name of The Penetrator! J/king

It was the same for me in my first playthrough, the hall that we fought would have been red with my blood in real life because I died so many times. I really wish From Software consider placing his armour as treasure in Dark Souls. Out of all the bosses I fought, the Penetrator was the one I respected the most.

zerocrossing3080d ago

The Penetrator? I could have sworn his name was The Piercing One in the UK version, lol Im probably wrong though.

Yeah, it was a great boss fight! And getting his sword was sweet! I hope they do let you get his armour, would be a great homage to a great boss.

Looking forward to this, looks like a great sequel.

I know, I just said it to wind people up. I like to do that now and again.

limewax3080d ago

Only disagreed because it is actually not a sequel, but a spiritual successor. Different universe, but yes it looks fantastic

rdgneoz33080d ago

May not be a direct sequel, but if you watch the trailer the sound and animations for some things (as well as some character models) are the same (spell casting / backstabs for example). From Software probably couldn't do a direct sequel since SCE Japan Studio did help develop Demon's Souls with them originally.

So while it isn't a direct sequel, its a bit more than the spiritual successor.

p.s. There are sequels to games that are in different settings but still a sequel.

kramun3080d ago (Edited 3080d ago )

True, which is why it's funny to see peoples reactions when you suggest it is a sequel.

For all intents and purposes it is a sequel. You can't look at Demon's Souls and this game and say they aren't remarkably similar.

RyuCloudStrife3080d ago

I can't wait for this game :)

Kyosuke_Sanada3080d ago

I hope they keep the fragile formula of making these difficult feats just as rewarding like Demon Souls. CE for this game is a day one for me already.
