EA Wants To Capitalize On F2P PC Games Since They Make So Much Money

Gaming Blend "Follow the money. That’s what the gaming industry has turned into. Creative ingenuity takes a second seat (or sometimes a third seat where sequels and franchises are concerned) to the financial profits video games can earn a company. EA has publicly admitted that the PC could become their leading platform due to all the money the F2P, online games make, especially in Asia."

OMG FREE TO PLAY

WHAT SORT OF AUTHORITARIAN POWER GRAB ARE THEY AFTER? WHY MUST THEY MAKE IT SO OPEN AND INVITING

For the NON PC gamers out there who don't know EA has a several F2P games already.

Battlefield Heroes, FIFA Online, and Battlefield Play 4 free quickly come to mind.

It's so funny that a few months ago PC Gaming was dead....but now that all the cool new ways to make cash on the PC are getting out publishers can't get PC material out quick enough.

Free to Play does make Devs a ton of cash through micro transactions. Just be careful of Pay 2 win like BFP4F is becoming.

EA seems like a sadistic suicidal millionaire jerk for me these last months. Or just suicidal.

They earned a lot of my respect with risks like Dante's Inferno, Dead Space and Mirror's Edge.

But after publicly going atfer Activision with BF3 they've since reverted back to their old ways.

They remind me of those evil corporate douches in futuristic movies that'll do any and everything to control whatever they have their greedy hands in.

Yep, I know it's a company and it runs for money - but right now it looks like it runs ONLY for the money. That's not how you run a game dev/publisher.

i like the free to play titles now, but if you have to play to get ahead, then no thanks. I really like how TF2 is setup though, everyone is even and only aesthetics and minor upgrades cost money.

That could be one of the things EA might try to replicate.

Valve does a lot of promotions in which it offers TF2 hats for purchases on steam. (Origin has something similar with BF3's pre-order)

Of course, first they'd actually need to make an F2P game worth playing. BF Heroes is a good start, but they need something that can challenge TF2.

I wonder what Ea means my F2P? Does that mean F2P "real" games or more Facebooks stuff, because aside from Battlefield Heroes and that's about it and all the face book games.
