Six Upcoming Shooters Which Look Better Than Killzone 3

Killzone 3 had raised the bar as far as first person shooters were concerned when it released for the PlayStation 3, however there’s some serious competition coming its way as more and more developers try to push the consoles to its limits with their tech and engine capabilities.

Ah, this should make for some interesting comments. Don't know how Resistance 3 is on there. Doesn't look bad or anything but KZ3 definitely is the better looking game IMO.

This article in general is counting chickens, pre-hatching.

There were so many titles that were supposed to have the greatest graphics on consoles.....and then they released.

Crysis 2's released console footage ended up being compressed as an ant under Andre the Giant, the end result being a sub-HD, AA-less, technically iffy game. Brink ended up being PC footage with 360 controller support on. Alan Wake ended up being super-sub-HD with 4xAA. The list goes on and on and on.

For once, let's count our chickens once they hatch.

I don't think Resistance 3 will be better looking than Killzone 3, but I think it will be a better game by a long shot. The PC versions(not console) of Battlefield 3 and Metro: Last Light will look better than KZ3, but as for RAGE and Bioshock Infinity, that still remains to be seen.

I'm super excited for Metro: Last Light, as the first Metro was a fantasic game on PC. Rage looks cool, but it sure does look alot like Borderlands only with better graphics, which isn't a bad thing, but I'm skeptical of the originality of the game, and as much as people like to praise ID and John Carmack, they haven't done anything signifigant since 2004 with DOOM 3, and thats only if you think DOOM 3 was signifigant.

I think Rage could pull it off on consoles thanks to the Mega-Textures and much higher frame-rate but the others? I don't think so unless he is talking about the PC version. Battlefield 3 on consoles look pretty average if you ask me, even the destruction doesn't look that impressive (I'm talking strictly about consoles).

I said it once and ill say it again, rage looks great but its EMPTY. Look at all the videos where all the action is happening. You don't see more than 3 or 4 bad guys on screen. Killzone was packed with lots of things going on at once, while maintaining the gfx. I know some of u won't like that, but look at the present comparison videos.

I just tried kz2 after playin kizzy 3 for awhile and oh man did those weighty weapons throw me off.
That skill it took to shoot some one down made that feeling so good when you where playing.

Na i don't think rage will look better than killzone 2 let a lone 3. The particle effects and lighting just aren't there not even close. And as for the other games on the list of course they will look better, but only on pc with max setting or almost max setting, 1080P at least 4x AA, and half the other oppositions they will offer. The only game on the list that i think will do it on consoles is Bio shock. Every other game will not look better than killzone. This is the truth. I think you're a 360 fanboy. Cause anybody who plays all systems knows that killzone right now is the best looking game. Might not be the best game ever, but best looking console game yes! Realistic graphics takes up more resources then stylized graphics it's fact so since the others went with stylized graphics they can use the rest for everything else on a large scope & scale on PS3.PS3 can take handle the workload believe me just look at god of war 3 & the santa monica studios god of war 3's team said it themselves they only used 50% of hardware's total processing power of PS3.They also said next god of war game their going to try fully utilize the entire processing power of PS3 or close to it & i believe them after what i saw in god of war 3.

P.S..I know people think im a fanboy & that im moron but im not i've done my throughly done all the research because i've seen the confessions of many game studios developers in videos & read everything on the PS3's hardware components from trusted sources.

I really like KZ3 art style and GG did an excellent job pushing the graphics and adding effects to KZ3 that really make it stand out as the one of the best FPS out.

sure many gamers had problems with GG making KZ3 a little "too user friendly" as i too prefer the weighted feel but over all still a good game!

Hahaha everything you say is true except putting the 3d on. I have a 3d tv and it looks like crap with 3d. GG has even came out and said that the came goes in to sub HD when you play in 3d, and it loses all of its MLAA, and has more frame rate problems. The game is awesome, but with 3D on straight from GG mouth it does not look as good. And i have seen it for my self. Beat it one time with 3D, and then beat it without and it looked way better. Huge improvements. Makes me think ya really don't have a 3D tv. lol

I love my new 51" plasma 3D TV, but several games have been a bit of a let down and KZ3 probably more so than any other.
Amazing 3D depth, but the visual trade-offs are huge with an image that almost looks like it's running standard definition.

While some games have managed to pull of 3D very well - MotorStorm Apocalypse is probably the most impressive - my general impression remains that the current generation consoles simply don't have the processing power needed to run the most graphically intensive games in 3D without visual trade-offs in other areas.
The Uncharted 3 beta also suffered some extra, pretty nasty "jaggies" in 3D mode.

If we are talking in comparison to PC max specs or just on consoles. If this is limited to consoles then IMO KZ3 will remain in the top spot. Rage, BF3 will be technically brilliant but may not run aswell as a PC which both games were designed for. Shoe horn multiplats usually will not fair aswell as console exclusives especially when it comes to the PS3 with its unique Cell chip processor.

KZ2 had a generic story, but the campaign was still very enjoyable given the variety of different situations you were in. KZ3 improved upon virtually everything, but ruined the realistic gunplay from KZ2.

If theres a KZ4, I'd buy it if they go back to KZ2's gunplay.

I disagree, I thought Killzone 3 was a let down compared to 2. I hated all the segments in 3 that were taken straight from Call of Duty. Like the training in the beginning, that's just stupid and now every shooter has one. The horrible snow vehicle segment, the ending made no sense. Then of course the controls were completely changed to cater to the more casual people. I was personally disappointed with 3 in many ways.

KZ2s gunplay wasn't realistic. It was way too heavy to be realistic, even if you consider all the armor, no one actually holding a gun would be that slow and sluggish like you are in KZ2.

KZ2 should have had KZ3 controls in the first place. Besides, you don't have to have pad lag to implement weight. That said, KZ3 WAS disappointing, but not because of the controls. The graphics were inferior and the campaign wasn't as good as the first.

The improvements KZ3 made is very minor when you consider the things KZ3 either to took out completely that was previously in KZ2 or the things KZ3 simply made worse.

The controls on KZ3 is better than KZ2, but the recoil and bullet spread on the guns in KZ2 is better.

As far as the campaign goes both games had disappointing stories. KZ2's MP is superior to KZ3's.

Quite frankly, I don't have much of a use for these types of articles - but I used to. I used to love to pour over screenshots, look at all the upcoming titles, watch the little videos and I'd completely get sucked into the "This looks so awesome!" hype. The problem with that is that I was burned, over and over again. How many times have we seen a shooter that's supposed to set a new graphical standard fall flat on it's face and wind up inferior to the existing heavyweights of the day? It happens all the time.

As great as these titles look, and even though I am excited for a few on this list, I'll wait until they're released before I start saying they're any better than games out now. Haze, anyone? Metro 2033? Crysis 2? Ninja Blade? Alan Wake? These were all titles that were hyped up to be the next, huge graphical leap and while they might not be bad titles, they certainly didn't live up to the hype and early screenshots.

I really don't why Guerilla try to fix what wasn't broken on KZ2 MP-wise. All they had to do was too do was improve on visuals, added more weaponry and of course added the new MP mode Operations then the game would have been far better in that front. There was no need for upgraded abilities for any of the classes.

The campaign however needed a much better story in my opinion with more face time for Jammer, the addition of Shadow Marshals from the first (including Luger.), Hackah, the enemies on KZ: Liberation ( I missed the Helghast dogs.... ) and a few other things.

It also doesn't make sense how GG REMOVED features. I sold the game a long time ago so I'm not really sure if they've patched stuff in now, but things like removing server lists and leaving it to matchmaking was one of the worst decisions they could make. Kz2 had so much allure cos you could fine-tune the type of match you wanted to play. I hear they've patched it in now, but unranked. Still useless, should have made it ranked.

And removing things like battle replays and the extensive clan support?

The red menu is horrible too. Don't get me wrong I like Kz3, but there was no point in me keeping it when Kz2 was better. Let's hope Kz4 goes back to the glory that Kz2 was.

yeah I know that games sell more on consoles but that is because console gamers think that u must spend over 1000$ to get a decent computer when u really don't need more than 400-600$ to get a computer that kills the ps3 & 360 + it doesn't matter if you spend 1000$ or more on your rig because you'll save money in the long run.

+ developers gain much more money/pc game than money/console game which makes up for less sales.

I find it funny people disagree with others thinking the same that battlefield 3 is the only one out performing killzone 3 graphically & on all other fronts!I probably bet these same people disagreeing would argue with repi from dice who clearly put up proof on how aggressive repi the rest of the frost bite 2.0 team who pushed this game on all platforms as much as they could!

Kz2 controls are seriously god awful. People that honestly think 2 looks better just have no clue. They are close but many improvements were made in 3 and textures were much improved. - I agree. But PC's are so powerful with new tech being made available to the consumers that great graphics is an expectation. However consoles are limited in tech as they are outdated the day they are released so trying to benchmark great graphics with old tech is a talent all in it's own.

That is why console owners are so excited to compare graphics. Seeing how much developers can get out of old outdated tech and still deliver amazing graphics and gameplay. Next gen is going to be absolutely amazing graphics wise for consoles.

After getting some hands-on with Resistance 3's multi-player beta...I have to say...

This is the best multi-player in years. I'm dead serious. I LOVE this!

It's still an early build though, so the graphics aren't amazing. The art direction is unheard of though! Insomniac may not have the budget to flesh out those graphics, but my GOD can they make a beautiful game.

R3 textures look phenomenal, it's particle effects are so many times better, it's A.I is much more intelligent, it's lighting system amazing, it has tons of things happening on-screen and it has tons of color. To say R3 looks worse than KZ3 shows just how much you loyalists actually care about insomniac and their games.

Flippin support them! KZ3 isn't nearly as good as KZ2 let alone R3, KZ3 is nothing but a blurry mess with a couple of vibrant colors added in here & there and that's a fact.

Insomniac you're doing a great job and your game looks 100x's better than KZ3, and not only that but the gameplay and story looks solid which is why I'm getting it Day 1!

There's a difference between fanboyism and having a legit opinion. Majority of the PS3 fanboys on this site either agree with each other because the other person said something 'nice' about Sony or they'll just repeat what everyone else says.

R3 clearly looks better than KZ3 in every way yet they still say KZ3 looks better. I've noticed that Sony loyalists have some kind of strong loyalty to GG, ND & SM but every other dev is just worthless to them.

They only praise games developed by other devs when they're bragging about how big their exclusive line-up is every year but they don't even buy most of them.

What exactly are they trying to say? are they saying that Insomniac can't make a better game than KZ3? Why? They make it sound like every other dev has to catch up to these three devs.

There are games on the market that blow away the games developed by those three.

I Dont Understand why people rage and freak out over graphic's, being someone who would rather look at a pretty screen then enjoy the game is beyond me. Games that are shown before they come out are Doctored, Edited PC Images... All games that do alpha testing get released to PC so for the PS3 Gamers, don't expect any new games to look half as decent as the damn computer.
