Happy Birthday Xbox Live! Here's for another 9 years.
Holy crap lol
Just imagine how much money it wouldve cost if you've subscribed to Live from day 1 up until now.
@Istanbull= I been a XBL gold member for 8 years and have only paid for 3 years. So about $150. MS used to give 12 month free subscriptions for XBL when it first launched. They came randomly in games.
Just imagine how much you paid for your internet service, tv service, cell phone service, MMO subscription and so on over the years. It makes the Xbox Live subscription fee look like peanuts. That said, Xbox Live has continually delivered top features on consoles period! You see the difference in how the networks and interface have evolved for all three console manufacturers and you clearly see the difference in investment.
Funny people are disagreeing with what actually happened with me. 4 years later and this site hasn't changed.
These days, the closest thing to an original gamertag is "XxXxExXxX" I'm jealous, though. I wish I had gotten in a single letter gamertag :(
Only the official xbox live launch team have single letter gamertags. But i agree with the original GT lol. 7 year member and loved every second :)
Happy burrday to you. GameSpy is older tho ;) what did big bro get u for bday?
Nice and all but wtf happened to the article. "It's worth noting that the 5 most popular games on Live at the moment are Scroll down for some awesome videos you might have missed."
Sorry the system glitched. Working on a fix ASAP. Edit: It's been fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.
Jeez, it's been that long already?
Now if only we could get a nice little discount. Maybe at the 10 year mark?
"E" - hahaha cool
I thought the first one should've been Xbox, but "E" works too. :)
Xbox live ..... i remember my first time playing halo 3.....ohh good ol days :'(
Live and Halo go hand in hand.
Halo 3* REACH just wasn't the same at all.
^ you're right, it was better ;) Nah, they we're about the same for me.
Running and jetpacks shouldn't have anything to do with HALO. They ruined it with that crap, and loadouts? wtf?
Halo 2 for me was the best one..i even won a tournament once ..only won $100 bucks lol at least is something right :)
Halo 2 and Project Gotham Racing 2 there the old days :)
I remember playing halo 2 on lockout for the first time now they were the good old days with clan wars and ranks that mattered
best map in halo :D
"It's worth noting that the 5 most popular games on Live at the moment are" "FIFA Soccer 11"...I didn't know this game had such a huge fanbase. I mean most played on live? a sports game? thats crazy. Anyways, I'm like no where close to 9 years on Live xD
It's huge in Europe. Sold about 12 mil on all systems.
Biggest sport in the world by far
I smash about 10 hours a week on Fifa, when you start training your Pro you get sucked in... Then you can't help to get your nerd on instead of sleeping.
I'm not dissing FIFA, I'm just shocked that a sports game is one of the top played online games on Live.
My account should turn 8 soon. 8 years of Xbox live gold membership and it is sooo worth it.
It is, but I never liked soccer for some reason.... it is probably by far the biggest sport everywhere except for the US.
How Much $ would that come out to? Xbox720 Worth
So... did 'Live' start sometime during the original Xbox days, or only when the 360 came out?
I dunno, do the damn math! 2011-9=2002. Was the 360 out in 2002? No, it started with the original Xbox. DERP.
Original xbox had it. Halo 2 came out in 2004 I believe and it was on Live.
Live existed during the xbox as a simple online play service. It had the same price and just about everyone played Halo 2. Prior to that many people played Rainbow Six, but that was really it. There wasn't really anything too amazing about live back then or worth talking about, but it was still quite a bit of fun/less hassle than the PS2/Dreamcast online.
idk about that. battlefield 2 was pretty big on live. as well as mech assault and a few others nothing massive like cod tho
The price was cheaper back then by a whopping $10. It offered far less back then, so much that I doubt I would have paid for it myself. However, even back then Xbox Live was far easier to use than the competition and headsets/voice was still at the centre. PC was of course bigger back then....
Rainbow 6 Black Arrow. I still have Cafe and Airport maps burned into my mind. And slow walking...good times.
Burnout 3 and Conkers Bad Fur day were excellent Alternatives to Halo 2 back then.
Oh there were many games being played on xbox live, and everyone had a headset even then. I played Ghost Recon 2 online a lot. The original Ninja Gaiden was also online enabled, believe it or not.
ESPN College Hoops. The good old days running b-ball with T.J. Ford.
Im 8 yrs on live an its been worth every penny
xbox live is the best online experience IMO on a console.
Its only 3 years for me, but it was so worth it.
Six years of joy for me.
lol at disagrees. apparently some people just know better what we prefer than we do.
is GTA4 really still that popular?
Been gold since Summer '05 here even though I've been switching around accounts a lot.
I've been on Live for 6 years now, it doesn't get any better then XBL! So far ahead it's not even funny.
lol it's a pretty basic service dude
I'm soon at my 5th year and closing in with 92K gamerscore. It have been worth it but I have only payed for 2 years the other years have been on Microsoft.
Thx 4 da pro tipz mista beat down. Ill work on meh grammer asap!!!!!!! /s
So simple but amazing
Damn 9 years!! I was an original beta tester for XBL and have been on since that time.I think that I still got that tight ass T-shirt they sent with the starter kit. Man NFL Fever 02 was good and Revolt was okay. From what they started out with to what they have today is truly remarkable. XBL has made things alot better for ALL gamers.
thats $450 just to play multiplayer for 9 years.
I could have sworn that Xbox LIVE had a plethora of features and you weren't paying that fee solely to play online, but I could be wrong.
aw man i remember getting the original xbox at launch and playing UT over xbox live as well as crimson skies.......that was the good days of online gaming where everyone was polite and kind, now its just 12 year olds screaming at the top of there lungs and paying 120+ bucks for a game that comes out every year with no changes what so ever, disappointing really
